I ride the same as you Jess, everywhere I go! I go at a nice and safe cruising speed. I am 74yrs old and there is the proof of riding respectfully and going out for a ride with the intention of returning home at the end of the ride. Be safe and enjoy your life Jess! We love you 😍
As much as we riders love 555 it is in the middle of a primarily agricultural section of Ohio. The farmers that live on that road are using it with farm equipment coming off the fields to earn a living. We are guests on that road. I enjoy riding it but know the risks.
There is nothing more fun than meeting a combine with a 28’ cutter head on a 24’ road, in the middle of a curve! Rural Kansas this time of the year that is a regular happening…
No matter who is hauling shit on the road they still have an obligation to maintain their load. Scattering gravel and rocks every where makes it a hazard to everyone. They are not properly securing their load and creating dangerous riding and driving conditions for everyone. BTW, if you pay taxes you have every right to be on the roads, they're not private.
Love riding in SE Ohio! So lovely...and challenging. It's the blind turns after a summit that I hate about the 555. It's not...fun. Now, 78 east from Ringgold and through McConnellsville then through the Wilds up to Cumberland or Chandlersville is a fabulous ride.
Rode the 555 a month or so ago. Made a little vacation out of it. Spent a night in Zanesville, got up early and rode down to the river, cut over to Marietta and back up 60 to Zanesville again and spent another night before riding home. It was a fun ride and not much traffic on a Friday. Was back at the hotel by 3 or 4. Nice day ride. I ride a Ryker so don't worry so much about the gravel but I didn't really see that much. Especially didn't see large rocks like this.
First time viewer. Thank your local dump truck drivers for not cleaning off the decks or covering their loads. Happens here in WI also. Enjoying your ride. Watching until the end.
Way back in the Dark Ages (1960's) when I was a teenager learning to ride, all the older guys told that the day you think you mastered the bike, quit riding, because the bike will show you who's the master.
Just did the 555 today for the first time. Yes, the saloon is a great biker dive bar with shirts and patches. The road is bipolar. The hills and curves seem to be blessed by the biker gods but the road conditions suck! Gravel, horse shit, gravel, tree branch, gravel, crab apples, more gravel. It’s hard to enjoy a road you’re trying to survive. Great video
My first trip down the triple nickel was the weekend after I received my endorsement in 2007! Talk about white knuckles. Have done it once a year since and always enjoy it.
I have rode the North section several times until about 2 months ago. I made it a point to ride the whole thing from North to South. Encountered minimal gravel. I do think there is a quarry just off of the 555. Newly paved section and a dog sunning itself in the road. FYI. The Zanesville Harley store had 555 merch and riding over the "Y" bridge was kinda cool
If you want to do the whole 555, I suggest you start down at the Ohio River and travel north. It puts the sun to your back and reduces glare so you can see the corners better. (Maybe you might want to consider riding the Himalayan for the rocky sections) 😎
Ohio does have some great roads to ride! Rode 93 south to 36 east last Saturday through Baltic and to check out a place called the Wooly Pig Farm Brewery. If you haven't been there check it out!
I love wooly pig! Ironically we just drove by there yesterday at 9 o’clock in the morning and I was like, “I wish they were open!” 😂 i actually have a video of that whole area! th-cam.com/video/aGYn2gl7mlo/w-d-xo.html
Interesting perspective on the dragon, I agree with what you said about it and to add to that is the physical/mental issue of the dragon. A lot of people I’ve talked to say that they were completely worn out after going up the dragon … May try to catch up to you in Florida, I will be heading down there, depending on the timing of the current tropical storm…
I did that route 555 last year from south to north. An all day downpour made it unfun. The gravel and dirt at intersections was pretty slippery. Worse was the blind turns after the crests. Like that fun feeling of weightlessness then an 'o crap' blind turn. Did the same 20 miles you did again 2 weeks ago. I was staying in Wheeling WV and broke off and had to head back east because it was getting late. Believe it was Ohio 37, off the Nickel.
Hey Jess , the 555 is a great road , my son and I rode it at the end of June after riding the tail a week earlier . We started where you did in Zanesville and road to Little Hocking and loved it , you do have to pay attention for the blind off camber turns at the top of a hill and there was some gavel but no boulders when we rode it. I set the cruse for the first bit and was wondering what everyone was talking about..... then I found out, I am ready to go back , its a hard days ride from St. Louis . Keep up the good work and go back and ride the whole thing though it is worth it .
Usually not that bad with the big rocks, some gravel is common, but it typically isn’t that bad. I ride it on my Road King often and it’s generally a good ride, lol.
That bike makes me giggle. The view of the handlebars/fairing/instruments/etc from the rider's perspective looks like a smiling or screaming gremlin to me. If I were riding it, I can just imagine the gremlin and me smiling together and screaming out, "WOOHOO!!!" :D
You're totally right. When the road is so rotten that it's no fun, why go? You'll be happy to know that this judgment changes with the circumstances. For instance the Himalayan might feel better, with its quick swerves and narrow tires. It might also be less disturbed by hitting a rock. Also, if you had days to do it, it might seem less hectic. I've turned back several times. Both times involved road suspension that couldn't follow the crazy bumps or loose surfaces. Once I didn't have a low enough gear to get through without burning the clutch.
Bob and I were down in SE Ohio the last week of July also in 2021 the same week. Rode the triple nickel a few times. Some gravel no rocks like you encountered . Must of been a gravel truck going through. We tried stopping by the Triple Nickel Saloon but it was closed. Love the Windy 9 roads down there. I was talk ing to the woman who heads up the Athens Windy 9 tourist center down there has been trying to reach out to you but hasn’t gotten a response from you. Planning on going down there next year as well. Looked like a great day to ride.
Jess, my wife and I rode The Triple Nickle twice this summer, once in June on our Can Am Spyders and again in September and she was on a Can Am Ryker. We did not see that much gravel and no large rocks at all. If we did, we would've turned around too as you did. Both were great rides, the full length too. I think the last portion is more challenging then the first. I hope you get time to ride the whole length. We also stopped at The Triple Nickle Diner too... it's about half way? We also stopped to let 2 waves of sports cars pass us and saw other groups of bikes going the other way - very popular road! Beautiful country side and nice people. We plan to return next season to ride it on our Harleys.
I live just south of wheeling WV. I love to ride 555. I have ridden on route 555 about a dozen times from route 7 to Zanesville and back the other direction. Finding gravel and other hazards on the road is pretty common, however, the rocks you were encountering I have never encountered on 555. There is a Harley shop close to where route 555 starts in Zanesville called Finks Harley. Try and check them out next time you do rt. 555. They have clothes and poker chips etc. There with rt 555 on them.
Hey Jess, rode the triple nickel a few years ago , ( no baby boulders on the road ) , there was patches of gravel though. We road the whole route down to the river and ended up in a town called coolsville and camped at rivers bend campground . A blind curve at the apex of a hill almost got me . Brakes on my street glide worked great 😬. Be safe , loved the video. Looking forward to your next adventure.
we did the 555 couple of weeks ago friends advise it is a good practice for the tail but it is completely different with the stuff that is on that road but then again. I am from Florida and I have done the tail several times . stay safe 😁👍
I’m glad you posted this video because I thought about going down there soon from Michigan but I think I’ve changed my mind😀😀it reminds me of a few roads here in Michigan where farmers drag dirt from the fields out onto the roads.
For this BMW, I was wondering, how much vibration through the floorboards do you notice? more or less than your H-D?? Or through the handlebars also. Thanks!
Cool video, would love to see you do another video on riding the entire Tripple Nickel. Same as you, I've heard some say it sucks, but obviously a lot of people love it. Would love to know the scoop on the matter.
Jess, I see that you have the day rider seat installed on the bagger. I still have the basic one on mine but I definitely need some added height to be more comfortable. They say this one gives you 2 inches more over the basic. Just wondering how it works for you , but of course you haven’t been on a long ride yet, so I guess you’re still out on answering that one. There’s a lady, Sabine, unique Design upholstery, that’s out of Louisville. So I think I might go this route and have something custom-made. I definitely would like some feedback, thank you ,and ride safe! 😊
It's like riding in the UK, minus the rocks everywhere. Gotta be aware of what's around you and be ready to slow or avoid the hazards. Stunning scenery though, and I can appreciate just how different it is compared to a lot of other places in the state and the US in general :) Be interesting to see the whole thing tho when you've time!
Damn that’s a big rock 🪨! Absolutely would love to see you ride that road ! Really loved this video Great ride thanks for sharing your rides and your passion for this wonderful sport we share 👍😎
Just spent 5 days in the Athens area riding. 555 is great, but there are a lot of blind curves and the cagers tend to take their half out of the middle. Throw in gravel and about 50 turtles and it's not the place to push your speeds. It is most definitely more dangerous than the Dragon.
Running West Virginia route 219 northbound with two of my friends this past weekend, at the base of a sharp turn we hit a dump of gravel. I hit it first and after my bike kicked out 8-12 inches I hollered into my SENA but the guys did not have time to react and they each had their bikes kick out. When we got to a rest stop, there were a group of bikers there talking about the same gravel and how close to losing it they were. Chances we take. Stay safe and keep the shiny side up!
I was on the 555 on Tues this weeks and encountered those same rocks. Those rocks were from Deavertown south to the stone quary. Otherwise the road was bad north or south of that location.
i need to put the triple nickel on my to do list when ever i ride to Ohio as i have family there , maybe i can talk my brother in to riding it as well.great video as always jess 👍
@Her Two Wheels >>> I posted this comment under your community tab post for this video, but I think it deserves repeating here: *That highway certainly give new meaning to the ice cream flavor **_"Rocky Road."_* 😊😊😊
In all my years of riding country roads you learn really quickly that they are useally at the intersections of country gravel roads. Gravel travels with vehicle tires from gravel to asphalt roads. Watch for gravel at driveways and side roads.
I wanted to go to the diner! But the gravel was getting so progressively terrible that I made the decision to just turn around and try again another day!
@@HerTwoWheels yeah, those rocks were pretty gnarly, smart choice. Besides you and Jordan should enjoy that together anyway, I think he’d like the spot too.
Back in the day the Fracing Trucks tore up the roads with gravel and sand. Plus the everyday use messed em up in general, plus the residents blowing grass on the roads but the best riding in the state in in that area they have a huge motorcycle community. Good people all around.
Looks like a fun road minus the shot rock! You should come to the adirondacks and green mountains for a ride. Some of the best riding in the northeast! Im sure you've been to laconia right? So you've passed through if that's the case, but you should land in lake george, NY and do a ride here! I happen to know alot of great roads👍
Yea here in Ontario Canada we have a couple of great riding roads but the residents of the areas go out with buckets full of gravel and rocks and dump them out on the corners or anywhere you can open it up .
When I ride on any new road or curvy I run the route on the gps. So then when I am approaching a curve I glance down at my gps and look at the purple route line to see what the curve looks like. This lets me know is it a long sweeper, very sharp 90°, S curve, curve with changing apex, etc. This purple is easy to see and I can judge the speed needed to make the curve before I enter the curve. Just takes a quick glance.
You just saved me a 5 hour ride from Pa. I was hoping to get out there and see what the fuss was about with triple nickel but after seeing the boulder field I have changed my mind. That actually made me wonder if someone local did that to slow the bikers down. (Hopefully not the case)
Did the whole length today. Blind hills and fun turns make this road feel roller coaster like. But the road conditions suck. Gravel, horse shit, gravel, road litter, crab apples, dead branches, and more gravel. It felt more like survival than fun
I've rode it many times. There are always hazards at some point in the road. It's an area with active farms and other agricultural related things. You just have to ride it like you have some sense and you'll be ok. There are numerous roads connected to it and near it that are great too.
There are many winding roads in western NC that are known for having loose gravel in curves. Rumor has it that locals do this to slow traffic, to discourage motorcyclists and to reduce congestion.
Every motorcycle travel magazine has ads for the 555 and I always wondered about what it was like. It is beautiful but if it's hazardous then I'm out. The dragon is what you make of it and it is a really fun ride. Early in the morning is best but there are so many great rides around it and so many towns like Andrews North Carolina. I don't think I will ever get through all the rides I have in my back yard to get to many outside of Tennessee. Not a bad problem to have by the way. Have fun in Florida.
Have you done the hocking hills ride? So nice to ride through hocking hills and stop at the many bars and restaurants on the way. Fyi, they don't have iced coffee.
Well dang, I missed the opportunity to meet you. I live west of Ocala Florida. My friend and I did a day Ride to Destination Daytona HD and Iron Horse Saloon on Sunday during Biketoberfest.
Hands on bars - I quickly realised I really didn't need a death grip on the bars. The lighter I touched them, then better the bike responded. Maybe at 120kph in the wind, I'll still hold on, but unless I think I'm going to need the clutch, no problem giving that hand a break now and then. 8)
I would love to see your video of doing the whole triple nickel. I live here in Ohio like you and have not ridden myself yet, but I will try it one day. lol ride safe out there
I hvnt been on 555 this yr but SE Ohio is full of great roads....Love it on two wheels down that way...bad part is how long it takes to get there but 50 miles out of Columbus south you'll get to some great connecting roads to SE Ohio
Rode this with a small group in early July after a trip to hillbilly hotdogs. There was no gravel at all headed north. Southbound side had a couple washout though that could be trouble headed south.
you had a perfect opportunity to ask that guy on the road while you were rock picking.......what is with all the large rocks on the road. I'm sure its not like that normally but getting a local to tell you why would have been helpful for me and others who might want to ride it. Yes please ride it again maybe next year to give it some time for the rocks to get cleared.
Is there a quarry on that road? Maybe if f it has a rep for having rocks? In rural Virginia you have to watch for the gravel pulled in from side roads, those are small but usually in a mound.
I wanted to get up there and try that road myself and I say you are right those are nto native gravel off driveways and side roads a rock truck had to have his gate open losing a little at a time.
Still need to do that ride at some point. From what i have heard those rocks that you ran into are not normal. Hard to tell where they came from for sure.
The Triple Nickel my brother and I found by accident. We were riding the southeast area of Ohio and it was time to head back to the motel in Zanesville. So we figured let's take this road off of route 7 and head back. Wow! What a find! So good we went back the opposite way to the river and came back up again. A must for any rider.
We live in Michigan and have been talking of coming down to ride it. But if it’s that bad don’t want to waste our time or money. Would like to see you ride the whole thing and give a review on it. Please and thank you.
Hay Jess I live in Ohio also and I have done the 555 twice and there is ohio tail of the dragon somewhere off of 555 that I am going to do next year I think if not this year but 555 is a good road to ride
Watch me ride Tail of the Dragon here: bit.ly/3Sam5L9
I ride the same as you Jess, everywhere I go! I go at a nice and safe cruising speed. I am 74yrs old and there is the proof of riding respectfully and going out for a ride with the intention of returning home at the end of the ride. Be safe and enjoy your life Jess! We love you 😍
Ahh, Toby, I'm working on getting to 80 now. I work at cruising these days...gradually.

There is nothing more fun than meeting a combine with a 28’ cutter head on a 24’ road, in the middle of a curve! Rural Kansas this time of the year that is a regular happening…
Roads are open to every traveler! Including farmers, bikers, RV,s etc… everyone takes the same risk.
Holy smokes!!!! That’s not gravel!!! Those are chunks of rock!!! Thanks for taking us along!!! Ride safe Jess!!!!

Agreed with the blind turns. I did enjoy the road and have done it twice but the rolling hills hid surprises

Have driven the beautiful 555 mostly the eastern end for work in the O&G industry. Definitely on the bucket list to ride it though.
I rode 555 last year, it was great, I think underrated.
Thanks again for awesome videos! Mrs Jess 🌹
Hey i love your riding jacket in this video! Where is it from? It looks comfy and not too heavy.
Next time you are down near McConnellsville check out The Stockport Mill for lunch, Great Video !
Nice ride! I enjoy your channel young lady!
There are large gravel pits near Zanesville and another one around McConnelsville - there is the source from all the trucks.
You just saved me a 5 hour ride from Pa. I was hoping to get out there and see what the fuss was about with triple nickel but after seeing the boulder field I have changed my mind. That actually made me wonder if someone local did that to slow the bikers down. (Hopefully not the case)
I definitely don’t think the boulders are normal
@@HerTwoWheels I certainly hope not.
Prettyboy dope vid....looks like i have another destination. Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks for the ride Jess. Too bad the rocks spoiled it. But the cow was cool.
Especially since it was BEHIND me! 😂
Have you done the hocking hills ride? So nice to ride through hocking hills and stop at the many bars and restaurants on the way. Fyi, they don't have iced coffee.
Yea!
Stay safe Jess, looks like fun though
Well dang, I missed the opportunity to meet you. I live west of Ocala Florida. My friend and I did a day Ride to Destination Daytona HD and Iron Horse Saloon on Sunday during Biketoberfest.
Hands on bars - I quickly realised I really didn't need a death grip on the bars. The lighter I touched them, then better the bike responded. Maybe at 120kph in the wind, I'll still hold on, but unless I think I'm going to need the clutch, no problem giving that hand a break now and then. 8)
I would love to see your video of doing the whole triple nickel. I live here in Ohio like you and have not ridden myself yet, but I will try it one day. lol ride safe out there
You missed the best part, from rt 37 south to Chesterhill is the truly fun section. And stop at the 555 diner for lunch in Chester Hill.
The Triple Nickel is great....I think better than the Dragon...but debatable....its a great ride for all!!!
Here in Australia those yellow speed advisory sign for truck, indicating tip over speed risk.
Since you’re in Ohio I’m surprised you don’t hit more of WVA. It’s got some incredible mountain roads.
As you say, ride your ride. Rocks strewn all over the road blows. The upcoming Florida stuff should be a lot of fun.
Kind of cool seeing you go through my hometown (Deavertown)!
Wow what a ride thank u for ride along to cool.
Is there a quarry on that road? Maybe if f it has a rep for having rocks? In rural Virginia you have to watch for the gravel pulled in from side roads, those are small but usually in a mound.
Was this near your ride?
Sergeant Stone Inc 1425 State Route 555 NECorningOH43730
Having ridden Harleys and now the BMW what is your favourite??? Loving the videos. Jonathan 🇬🇧
Damn Jess be safe out there ride safe out there 🤙👊
It's about time, Jess!!! LOL
That cow wanted a second look at the bmw 😂 what a sweet sounding bike. Almost sounds like a Ducati sports bike
Heck yeah do the whole Triple Nickel I think it'd be awesome
Definitely try state route 26 it’s in the Wayne National Forest no loose cows or rocks in the road.
The counties need to get their street sweeping equipment out there and clean up the gravel. See you Saturday, Jess.
Ride easy and stay safe please things go wrong fast but you know what your doing
Thumbs Up 😉👍
The Triple Nickel my brother and I found by accident.
Take 78 out of Newark once you get to 541 head into Coshocton, grab a beer in roscoe village, perfect little ride.
Hay Jess I live in Ohio also and I have done the 555 twice and there is ohio tail of the dragon somewhere off of 555 that I am going to do next year I think if not this year but 555 is a good road to ride
