Nope, you never leave a fellow rider behind. There should always be a companion rider with you on a group ride. I have NEVER left another rider behind to fend for themselves. Glad you made it back safely.
@@HerTwoWheelsYes, but totally leaving one of the group behind, out of sight....not cool. No respect for you. A group ride is 'one dynamic', discussions and expectations are known and agreed upon....Lane splitting, illegal passing, speeding and if one person falls behind...we go on. Nice group???!!!
@@carsonl.8788I would never in a million years leave her behind, and had no idea she had gotten separated. When I did, I slowed down and waited. I’ll leave that up to Jess to communicate with y’all.
Sometimes you just have to find out who your friends really are. If you had trouble that isn’t good. You’re a smart and cautious rider. Pick your friends wisely. Safe travels
This is one of the most educational videos Ive seen on TH-cam, in reference to group riding. You difinitely have skills on top of being a smart rider. This was real life and I was totally impressed with how you handled the situation. I subscribed!
Never leave a rider behind! WTH!!! Have rode Harleys for 51 years, rode with MC Clubs, Groups and a few buddies..and rear bike and rider was ..never.. left behind or allowed to get out of sight....Never! Wow....not cool and shows a lack of consideration and respect. I would be honored to ride along with you, anytime, anywhere.....Much Respect.
I had the same thing on a ride to Milwaukee from SE Michigan. I was in the rear and hitting red lights after the others made it through yellow (pink). They said I gotta keep up. Not through red lights I'm not! Trailing rider is supposed to set the pace. I hate following people anyway so I'm usually solo. Like it that way!
Jess, thanks for reminding why I no longer like to ride with groups... and why I never ride at night. But I do love the road trips... The solitude is wonderful. And call me crazy, but I love the interstates. I have a trip coming up from San Diego to SW Indiana in a few weeks. My wife is afraid I'll get lonely. It's hard to explain to her, "Yeah, that's kinda the point."
I like the idea of group rides. I lost my dad when I was 18 when he was hit during a group ride he was in. At the time I didn't get it and still rode kinda ridiculous. I was in a bad accident(that was my fault) when I was 22 showing out splitting traffic in a group ride. That was my wakeup call. I'm lucky to be alive. Over the years I've lost at least a dozen friends over the years. (Most were riders fault.) I'm 44 now my, wife rides, my 21 year old daughter rides. I sound like a broken record but I preach ride your ride. My 67 year old mom is still riding. She's been telling me since I was 12 to not be reckless. You can lose someone in an instant. Stay safe.🍻
WOW Jess. You may not care... you are earning respect of the CORE. Be prepared, focus on the destination, be ready to help, tolerant of the unprepared, produce unlimited endurance, pack spares and help, suffer through unspeakable discomfort, overcome ANY on road obstacle, run with equipment that can handle ANY weather, plow through any other obstacle and arrive at at destination with grace and confidence! You will be welcomed by the elite of road warriors.
Block and crew are tight. And trying to make a deadline. I get it. Still zero reason to leave a rider behind. ESPECIALLY when he was the one to invite folks along! Poor decisions on their part, but good on you to address it in your video (to us) what happened and not letting it deter you from finding the bright side of things along the way. Fantastic video Jess! I really enjoyed this one and the subtitled thoughts. Happy New Year to you and Jordan! Let’s all make this a great year on the road!
I totally agree to ride your own ride... that being said, I would have never left a member to ride alone in that scenario.. especially after you helped another rider in need... db move on them Ride on Jess! You have my respect 🤘😎
I have found traveling cross country on a motorcycle you can either make miles or you can make memories. If ya gotta make miles ya gotta take the interstate. If ya have time for making memories take the long route.
I'm sorry to see you had a bad group ride experience. The ride captain is responsible for ensuring a safe ride and for keeping the group together. The lane splitting was a bad decision because it needlessly raised the level of risk for all riders in the group. Glad to see you make a good decision for yourself. Safe travels always. I am part of a riding club in Brampton Ontario. We do group rides every week with the ride, not the destination, as the focus. So I am 100% with you and your preferred riding style. Riding with like- minded riders helps make the journey a joyful thing.
As the rider with the most actual travel experience in that group, you should have been leading! Another reminder of why I hate group rides, and group tours even more. Ride safe, looking forward to some non interstate solo or duo videos.
I always get so excited when I see you cruising through the Mobile, Alabama tunnel on I10. I ride that stretch of I10 all the time as I live in Fairhope !!! Peace & Safe travels to you.
one thing, that truck wasn't trying to take you out. the driver was staying in the driving lane doing what s/he is supposed to do. and it's hard to see a motorcycle on the blind side 53' back. I drive truck and I ride motorcycle so I see it both ways. but ride your own ride and be safe
Jess, that Houston traffic is no joke and those cars with the spoked hubcaps that stick out two feet wide! 🤣 This video got me in feels a little bit for some reason. Good job!
And here I sit in upstate N.Y. watching it snow with a 24 road glide a 24 breakout and a 09 Rocker C with a 110 stage 5 in it sitting in the garage on the tenders LOL Thank You for taking us along
Happy New Year Jess. When the semi gave you the squeeze, I would have done the same thing and backed off. When I group ride it is ride your ride but we also keep together as much as possible. We regroup at points and keep at least two riders together. Each group needs to confirm group “rules” before the ride so everyone knows what the expectation is.
Best video you have put out. Really felt the sincere feeling you had being left by the group. Shows your ability to adapt and overcome any obstacles in your way. Great ride.
That’s 100% why I published this video. My experiences are always pretty vulnerable but relatable. Especially after reading many of the comments. We have ALL experienced this in one way or another.
Thanks Jess, enjoyed the video, interesting the different style of video with the large subtitles which is good and choice of background music which worked well. Thank you and Happy 2025.
The shot of the full moon coming out of the tunnel in Mobile was incredible. I know those roads so well. Your perspective and video of them were beautiful.
It reflects on the ride leader when you're consistently leaving a rider behind unless you're not really riding as a "group" but just individual riders who just happening to be headed for the same destination. If the former, it's on the ride leader not to pull maneuvers everyone can't follow. If the latter, then don't feel guilty about cutting loose and riding your own ride just as you say. I've led many, many rides informally and as a Road Captain and never left a rider behind. Sometimes that annoys someone else in the group; my answer to that is if that rider knows where we're ending up it's OK for them to cut out and ride as fast as they want. Since this was supposed to be a "group", what these guys were doing would have probably pissed me right off and I'd have gone my own way at my own pace.
you guys had a brutal segment of I-10 from at least San Antonio texas to Slidell louisiana..decades of hwy construction and countless 18 wheelers. I always take alternative roads (ie: LONGER trip) such as hwy 290 in texas or hwy 190 or 90 in louisiana...takes longer, but much more scenic and relaxing. Congrats on a successful safe trip once again.
It’s crazy that it’s been five years already. I remember your first TH-cam video. It seems like yesterday. I’ve watched through the ups and downs on your channel and it’s nothing but up from here. Congratulations on everything. I will continue to watch you. Continue to make videos. ❤

Hi Jess, luv your Shoei Neo3 helmet. I have one too, the red and white one. It seems the other riders aren't really caring about any one else in the group! Sad!!! 😣
Met a friend for breakfast on the bike this morning. It was 19F. When we met the rest of the group ride it was only up to 23F. So the ride route was modified a bit and we still got some fun in together. 5 bikes on New Year's Day in Colorado...
@@HerTwoWheels That or we're just crazy... That was the consensus at the pie & coffee stop anyway. Hope you & Jordan are doing great and have a great 2025!
This was awesome! Totally get the group ride concerns. You have to have a road captain that's experienced and puts the group's interest over their own and communicates well especially in tight traffic. Glad you rode your ride as that's the best way to stay safe and very much agree with your decisions. Would have done exactly the same. Another nice clip!
Blockhead was actually a great road captain. It just gets tricky with more than a few riders and the "slinky effect". If I truly felt like I was "Left behind" and not just a feeling of it, I would have 100% dipped out and continued the duration of the trip solo lol.
Im watching this and just vibrating with anger. You deserved better and I only planning on remaining subscribed to your channel. I ride with basically only a few fellow riders and they have exactly mind set. We rode from New Brunswick to Gettysburg, PA and ended up in some major traffic when we took wrong route and ended up in Nrw York. But, all was good becasue we always were together. I am not a believer in lane splitting, zig zaggig in and out of traffic and riding along right sode of road way. I would be honoured to ride with you anytime. ❤
I love your videos and content. Recently experienced someone being left behind on a much shorter ride and I’m glad you were able to finish and enjoy the ride. Stay safe out there and can’t wait for more of your videos in 2025
Your videos inspire me. Since you last one I kitted up twice and rode in the beautifully cold weather. Your music is on point too. Please keep sharing riding videos,
I am so glad to hear that! It is my passion to inspire others to get out and experience the world on two wheels! Happy to hear you got your knees to the breeze!
@ 😂 you’re still a veteran rider who adventures way more than most riders. I’m taking a lot of cues from your gear and bike setup for my new (unannounced) build. Heated seat ✅ heated grips ✅😅
Ok ive been a viewer of you channel fore well over 4 years now allways enjoy them specially the road trips life has been so demanding on me not much seat time on my 2023 roadglide special blue and black color so allways rember thiers allways alot of your viewers riding with you because of your wonderful vedios thank you so much
Jess, I too have an astigmatism... Look into yellow lensed driving glasses for night time riding. They do help with the glare and "Starbursts". Keep riding and be safe.
I'm a trucker who makes a living on the interstate. That's is the last place I want to be. Yes. It's a mental challenge. But it BORING! I'm planning a couple long trips this year, and none of them involve long stretches of interstate.
I lost a coworker in 2005 that pulled over on the side of the road to toss his rain jacket on, cager somehow found their way over there. So needless to say I don’t do that 😬
I live in Ca. where splitting lanes is legal and a way of life moto riding but it does wear on me in big cities because I am always trying to stay on top of things but I know it's proven more safe to lane split. Nighttime splitting definitely adds to potential dangerous conditions.
I especially appreciate this video showing your tolerance and how you continued to "ride your ride." I went on a group ride with my brother and brother-in-law to UT and back from TN and while we'd leave the hotels at the same time, I invariably ended up miles behind them. There's a huge difference in riding solo and riding in a group, but left behind. It's not a good feeling at all. That was the last time I rode with them.
That's all I ever hope to accomplish by sharing my experiences. This video honestly wasn't about "Look at what these people did to me" It was all about documenting real life experiences of traveling and group riding dynamics. I never felt unsafe or insignificant. It was just the reality of interstate travel. Not discrediting my feelings of "Feeling" left behind. I certainly felt sad in the moment... but I knew it was not intentional.
Good on you for Riding Your Own Ride. I can never do a group ride on any highway because I chose not to lane split, so when this starts to happen, I just break away from the group. Especially at night because I also have problems with my night vision. But it was still a great ride and kudos to you for going out and supporting Blockhead on his journey. 👏😁🏍💨🤙
The best part about your interstates is that you have so many that go so many fourteenth places. In Australia our 'Interstate' highways are so small and so limited that they are just boring. Couldn't agree more with the way you rode in this video though in the group, spot on 😊
It’s a fine balance of riding with somebody. But you should always stay at least in their view because if they’re worth anything, they should be watching for you at all times because anything can happen out there.
This video and the last couple videos of this trip have me looking firsts forward to my next road trip, but also more looking forward to my next SOLO road trip. I truly do like riding with others, but riding solo is absolutely the best.
I like the idea of riding with others, but when I've done it, I'm constantly stressed about keeping up, getting in the way of others or always being the tail end Charlie. It's constantly, "wait, what are we doing...? where are they going...? Oh, this exit...?
Good video. I usually ride solo but have a few people I trust to ride with. It is inexcusable for the group to leave you behind. Even though you are a seasoned traveler that is not cool.
I can Sooo relate to this Jess. This happens on motorcycle and snowmobile trips. There are always a couple of people that want to ride like the wind and leave the rest behind. I make it my goal to ride my ride as it is safer and less stressful. Every close call that I have ever had occurs when I surrender common sense and run with the pack! Stay safe out there and enjoy the ride!
Kind of a double edged sword when it comes to group rides. I’m sure those guys intentionally didnt mean any harm splitting off from you but it is really annoying that they did. It’s difference between a group ride and ride group. You rode your ride and they rode theirs but it’s great content as always safe travels to you.
Great video. I'm absolutely with you--I enjoy solo rides more as well (just for being able to set my own pace and 100% curate my own experience), but when I do group rides the whole idea is that you act as a GROUP!!! That's kinda the whole purpose... I'd ride WITH you anytime Jess.
Good evening, young lady. My name is Mike. I watched a tremendous amount of your clips. Have enjoyed the clip's Great content. You have a lot to offer the motorcycle community... encouraging you and thanking you for your stance. When riding with groups, not riding like those in a group you exercise discretion and safety. I do a lot of long distance motorcycle riding also, have a GL 1500 goldwing and I really enjoy riding alone. I rode with very few groups & I'm the last one so if they want to run and have fun, I let them run and have fun. I like to arrive at my destination safe without stress... motorcycle riding should be enjoyable relaxing. And that is what I strive to attain 2. Congratulations on your stands. Young lady, so proud of you.
I would rather not ride in groups and rarely do … I like being alone meandering across North Dakota. I can set my speed. I can set my schedule. I can set my stops. If I do ride in a group, I take the back for a little freedom! I feel for you being left behind :-( … Great Lakes tour! The wife and I are looking at a trip around Lake Superior! If you get up there - Betty’s Pies in Two Harbors, Minnesota! Two thumbs up.
Now you know why you should bypass Houston on any road trip! You made it back alive and spent a few days on the bike. At least you have that from the trip.
jess i ride sometimes with my sons and granddaughters i tell them to just go ill catch up i know where were going ill get there! i like to ride my ride grampop speed!
Long distance group riding is sort of like building a team…. Forming, storming, norming, performing. Groups riding is a whole different skill. The goal is to stick together, so you can all get where you’re going. When the goal shifts from sticking together to just getting there, it’s no longer a group ride… Especially when they start weaving in and out of traffic… COMMS can help too. I led a group ride in the fall up to New York (2,000 miles round trip). It was a HUGE help having the riders in the rear notify when they all got through the light, or they’re too far behind. Up front the speed is a normal pace, in the back you get a lot of rubber band effect that the folks up front just don’t experience…. It’s easy and quick to fall really far behind and have to push it to keep up. A quick “hey hold up” helped slow up the front and let the rear catch up.
This video reminded me of why I either ride alone or with at most 1-2 people. That and when you are in a group you spend more time watching those around you than enjoying the scenery. Like you I have an astigmatism and cannot see well at night so I avoid riding at night when possible. Wasn’t sure did your group use comms? If so, then no one should knock anything you did.
I'm so ready for 2025 Motorcycle trips! Which one do you think I should do?
1. Great Lakes tour?
2. Cross Country tour?

Met a friend for breakfast on the bike this morning. It was 19F. When we met the rest of the group ride it was only up to 23F. So the ride route was modified a bit and we still got some fun in together. 5 bikes on New Year's Day in Colorado...
That's awesome! Glad you guys were able to find some fun despite the cold.
@@HerTwoWheels That or we're just crazy... That was the consensus at the pie & coffee stop anyway. Hope you & Jordan are doing great and have a great 2025!
Yup always ride your own ride ! Being alone is better than risking your safety and enjoyment
Stay safe out there and can’t wait for more of your videos in 2025
I like the subtitles.
Thank you!
Happy New Year you, Jordan and kitty.
Thanks! Happy New Year to you as well!
Happy New Year Jess!
Good music and subtitles.
Thank you!
Good for you for riding your ride. I have ridden with a lot of groups and never been left behind. They were not good riding buddies.
I always keep the pace of my own ride.
Glad you made it back safe Jess
I agree with you on buddy ride, never abandon a fellow rider on a ride. I have also done a lot of riding alone.
Nice Vid Jess. Enjoyed the music selections...went well with the content.
Glad you enjoyed!
You ride so much that even when the rain hits you (at the end) like you didn’t even flinch. 😂👊🏼
I was just annoyed at that point hahaha
@ 😂 you’re still a veteran rider who adventures way more than most riders. I’m taking a lot of cues from your gear and bike setup for my new (unannounced) build. Heated seat ✅ heated grips ✅😅
@ can’t wait to see your videos!!
@ you da best! 👊🏼🤘🏼
Ok ive been a viewer of you channel fore well over 4 years now allways enjoy them specially the road trips life has been so demanding on me not much seat time on my 2023 roadglide special blue and black color so allways rember thiers allways alot of your viewers riding with you because of your wonderful vedios thank you so much
Sorry 2022 roadglide
Thank you for the kind words!
Houston native here. Sorry you had to deal with the H-Town traffic. No matter what time of day, it sucks. Also, lane splitting is not legal in Texas.
ROK straps are critical when owning a motorcycle!!! Best “bungie” cord evAr!!!
100%!
The exact reason I stopped doing long distance group rides years ago. 2400 miles of riding and didn’t get to see a damn thing.
Absolutely the greatest jess! 💖 Proud to have known you ❤
I lost a coworker in 2005 that pulled over on the side of the road to toss his rain jacket on, cager somehow found their way over there.
Couldn't agree more with the way you rode in this video though in the group, spot on 😊
Great video. You stayed not far from where I live when you stopped in Milton. Hope to get to meet you one day. Stay safe out there.
Same 😂😂
Good video. I usually ride solo but have a few people I trust to ride with. It is inexcusable for the group to leave you behind. Even though you are a seasoned traveler that is not cool.
Confidence is what they had in you, you ride within your comfort level! I never leave a member behind. Keep up the good riding videos
You rode your ride and they rode theirs but it’s great content as always safe travels to you.
it was 100% not intentional!
You handled everything with grace. Nice vid. Happy New Year 🎇
Thank you! You too!
@HerTwoWheels 🤩
Let’s go! Ride safe Jess!
HNY Jess. Thanks for the videos in 2024 and looking forward to some new touring content from you (and Jordy, when he can) this year.
Thanks, you too! Looking forward to more adventures this year as well.
Safety first, ride your own ride. Good on ya for sticking to your ride.
Awesome video really enjoyed watching the series. Happy new year to you and your family. Stay safe and enjoy always enjoy watching.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks! I appreciate the support and well wishes!
Love it. Be safe.
Now you know why you should bypass Houston on any road trip!
You made it back alive and spent a few days on the bike. At least you have that from the trip.
I love your content. Have a great new Year. And say hello to Jordan. He is awesome too😎😎😎
RESPECT .. ! your ride your choices.. never be pressured to ride beyond your comfort zone .
jess i ride sometimes with my sons and granddaughters i tell them to just go ill catch up i know where were going ill get there! i like to ride my ride grampop speed!
Long distance group riding is sort of like building a team…. Forming, storming, norming, performing.
Groups riding is a whole different skill. The goal is to stick together, so you can all get where you’re going.
When the goal shifts from sticking together to just getting there, it’s no longer a group ride…
Especially when they start weaving in and out of traffic…
COMMS can help too.
