    Jason, as well as other Millennial guitarists like Mateus Asato, Yvette Young, Sarah Longfield, Ichika Nito or Tosin Abasi, are proof that the art of guitar is safe and well. In fact, they are taking the guitar to the next level and are inventing their own styles. They will inspire future generations (together with the old heroes). Yup, the art of guitar is in good hands.

    And this is ME getting as close as I’ll ever be to playing that fast, Captain.

      Same. I envy people with supportive parents. My friend is an awesome drummer who's dad has infinite gear and he literally gave up to work a boring ass factory job. If I had 1/8th of that I'd be busting my ass man

    And here come all the players talking about "feeling"...

    • @TheZooropaBaby
      @TheZooropaBaby 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its not really about feeling I think its rather about novelty and elements of surprise, like, players like Spencer Seim or even Ian Williams can play very technically in their own way and they're novel as hell but nobody really talk bout them because they're not really technical in a conventional way. hell, even someone like Colin Marston is technical as fuck but nobody talks about him either and I just don't know why considering Colin is the staple of underground metal for the longest time

    • @hogblockula9335
      @hogblockula9335 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    • @calebafile4306
      @calebafile4306 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      They just think slow-paced solos with lots of sweeping bends has "feeling"

    • @misterknightowlandco
      @misterknightowlandco 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@hogblockula9335 i don't like this kind of music, but I'm not blind. The people who mock shred are guys who can't play this stuff so they try to diminish those who are highly skilled. That way they don't have to feel bad about sucking 😆. In all honesty, shredders have more in common with classical musicians that rock n rollers. The whole point of rock is that anyone can do it and be cool. Classical is about skill, proficiency and beauty. Shredders apply skill and proficiency to the dirtiness and ugliness of rock music.

    That's crazy about the Train of Thought album being his intro to this style of playing because I remember something similar happening to me back when I was in college. This shows how much older I am as compared to Jason but I had been playing guitar for a year or so mostly playing covers of rock and nu metal bands when I heard that album. It was my first introduction to Dream Theater and that lead to me discovering many other progressive rock/metal bands over the years. Sadly I never really learned to play like any of them but I learned enough to be able to have a deeper appreciation for what they were doing musically.
