    First clarify the title. This is for NRI's who happened to be in India during the time of election. This would be fairly very small percentage. I would estimate that it caters to may be 5% of NRI's.
    True solution is for NRI's to be able to vote wherever they are. I followed the direct news from supreme court and govt websites. That is in last stage of implementation but unfortunately all party consensus could not be reached on how to implement it. Congress, Communist and others were the main roadblocks to implement digital voting at embassy. Sending voting machines to all embassies are not logistically possible. Because imagine the nri could be of any constituency of the 540 odd seats.
    My best solution would be:
    - Digital voting with Aadhar biometric, passport, local ID validated at the nearest embassy.

There are also many countries which don't allow dual citizenship. And what does dual citizenship have to do with digital transactions and the poor? You made a conscious decision to give up Indian citizenship and take up citizenship of another country and the rules were very clear when you relinquished your Indian citizenship, but you want to criticize the Indian Government now? The OCI allows you so many benefits such as buying land and entering the country without a passport, so be a little grateful for everything your nation is doing for you even though your sorry ass decided to run away to another country.

      @@agodha11 Brother, if you want to argue and debate my point, you are welcome to do so. However, there should be some logic to your arguments. Agree there are many countries that grant dual citizenship but if you want to argue that India should grant dual citizenship, that will most likely come with the expectation to pay income taxes in India apart from other obligations. Are you OCI holders ready to fulfill all these obligations? You have to ask yourself.
      The connection between OCI being given the right to vote and poor doing digital transactions in India is an absolutely invalid and baseless argument, but please enlighten me if I am wrong.
      OCI issued to you is like the permanent residency granted by so many countries, and if you compare with the largest democracies on their practices for permanent residents, you will see none of them issue voting rights. USA green card holders cannot vote, Singapore PRs cannot vote, Canadian PRs cannot vote and the list goes on. Given this is a global standard of not allowing permanent residents to vote, why do you expect India to give voting rights to OCI holders, especially when so many newly minted OCI holders hardly ever visit the country and know very little about Indian politics and national issues of importance? OCI holders have clearly made the conscious decision that a foreign citizenship is better than the benefits and privileges they can get being an Indian citizen, so when you have made the decision to sever ties with your motherland, why is there an expectation that my motherland should keep bestowing you with rights and privileges meant for her children, kind sir?

    The whole process is stupid & complicated.. They should make arrangements for online voting using passport

    • @CakeorDeath420
      @CakeorDeath420 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's not actually. You think demanding arrangements is a valid ask? It took us 20 mins to fill the form and upload online. A US visa application is a million times more rigourous, but we all stand in the queue, fetch million photocopies and get through it, don't we? But when it comes to India, we expect "arrangements".

    This news clip has no value. If they really wanted NRIs to vote they would’ve allowed the NRIs to mail their vote to the nearest Indian consulate/embassy. NRIs mostly working in the western nation can’t go to India due to their Children school.
