    After WW2 there were hundreds of caves and hidden tunnels in France and Germany. While I was stationed in France we used to explore caves and mountain fortress installations before they were sealed from the public. In Eastern France, around Toul, there are tunnels that held hundreds of troops.

    That's just VAAP (Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant) that made TNT; not hard to find. It was shut down in sections from 1975-1977, with only CF Industries producing fertilizer through a lease until 1982. The property you were on is still only DOD land due to environmental clean-up issues to the best of my knowledge. It was part of the WW2 war effort but actually made more TNT for the Vietnam War than WW2 and Korean wars combined.
    It's now mostly an industrial park primarily housing VW's Chattanooga Plant and an Amazon Fulfillment Center. And there's was nothing active about it other than security...even 3 years ago.

      This is a superfund toxic waste site. It was fun mapping it out. I live many states away. Someone made a video on Joliet army ammunition plant they showed you how to get in.
      They got a surprise call from Home land security telling them to take down the video because of UNEXPLODED ORDINANCES that could have killed them if they would have
      stepped in the right place. It doesnt surprise me at all that this is an EPA SUPERFUND toxic waste site unfortunately our government is the very worst offender when it comes
      to contaminating the ground water. Camp Lejeune commercial on tv. These places hurt a lot of our military personnel unfortunately for life do to cancers from being exposed to
      all those chemicals.

    At 9.00 your in a boiler room.
    Looks like a munitions manufacturing facility.
    TNT melts at 95deg centigrade.
    Artillery shells grenades and bombs are filled by pouring hot TNT.
    So pipes would run from the boiler house in pairs.
    HPHW high pressure hot water.
    Like wise there would have been huge carrier chiller plant running chilled water around in a similar fashion.
    These liquids would be for everything from production to air conditioning.
    The acid plant would have been for initiators.
    Lead stifnate and nitro glycerine production used in caps.
    Hence the "C" on the building with the number.
    C= caps
    Z= initiators
    B= bomb
    S= Shell
    P= Pyrotechnics
    F= Fuze
    D detonators.
    The factory would of been in sections the spread over a big area is for safety i have seen a building set fire at a distance of 500 yards when a cordite truck ignited.

      Hey you nailed it buddy I was thinking for sure it was for the production of something becasei it didn’t look any base. I’d been on. That place must of had chemists and specialists of all sorts and security would of been a big priority as well .

    The big circular bunkers are in a area normally called ammo supply point(asp) they are usually built a safe distance away from high traffic areas of bases. Must have been a trek to get to it.

    Those things you pons are not a pond. That's the old waste treatment you got dirty water and one from the showers toilets and other water and then the other one was where the clean water was sent to and then it was reused for showers toilets and drinking water. I know that because I used to work on a small treatment plant. That was designed just like it. At least that's what I'm going to suspect it was cuz it was all concreted in and it look like the remnants of what was left from a treatment facility on the property. A very basic treatment facility.

    The Hopper cars, rail cars, are in storage from either the railroad or the lease owner(s). They transported Coal, most likely from the Powder River mines, and were stored during a downturn in the market.

    The hopper cars you were looking at appear to have held coal. That would make sense if the base produced its own power. It would have needed several cars a day to fuel production. Perhaps at a later point the power substation was erected to divert form the main power grid or to buffer the base in case of a black out. Just a guess.

    The Ravenna Army Depot in Ohio is still an active ammo area. It is about 5 miles by 15 miles big. The Radford army ammo plant is in Va and is 3 by 2 miles across.
    Radford will show you how ammo is made. It is an Army plant but it is run by contractors.

  • @screener545
    @screener545 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that base is still active as well. at least one building for security or something. Those train cars were not there more than a month. Lots of them looked to have brand new wheels on them and such and no visible rust on said wheels. Looked recently operated.
    The lack of graffiti is also concerning.
    Be safe out there and always pack heat!

  • @ericscottstevens
    @ericscottstevens 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most valuable are those lockers but they are on the verge of getting roached out with rust. Porcelain items are gaining popularity again. That metal set of stairs is worth a lot. A lot of architectural salvage in metal fixtures. But hauling it out takes some real effort.

  • @kfourom
    @kfourom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    At an abandoned ammo plant like this one, you are more in danger from rusty sharp Iron and snakes than from chemicals and explosives. If there were any explosives left, Vandals would have blown them up. The buildings are spread out to reduce the chance that a single facility blowing up would not trigger an avalanche of other explosions.

  • @ricjohns545

    Modern insulation, valves and dials in the boiler plant. Probably closed down within the last 15 years. The locker handles are newer models. Also you guys need the proper shoes, masks, eye protection and puncture proof gloves. A cut from anything on that base would seriously mess up your month or more. Really, brown loafers. Lack of graffiti usually indicates frequent security patrols or this base is waaaay out in the nothing-nothing lands.

    My guess is this may be a site for the manufacture of chemical weapons or the assembly of projectiles, chemical ammo for artillery or missiles. FYI toward the end you show a underground bit with pipes and valves this would not be for storage but control gear for the process or for fire fighting very important in explosive manufacture/storage.

    It looks like theres some activity I can see the roads are traveled and the wheels and tracks are SHINY on those train cars. It looks like they were carrying coal. I gotta wonder how many
    toxic chemicals there are and UNEXPLODED ORDINANCES on that property. Those pole top transformers and substation transformer look newer. That shower room looks newer with
    those 1970s looking tiles on the shower floor. I would also question the red ceramic tiles on that locker room floor they look like they are much newer than ww2. All the circuit breakers
    are much much newer than WW2 They would have screw in fuses if it was original 1940s stuff. Older transformers are black with brown bushings I didnt se any hear.

    It is not normal for railroads to run "thru" military bases. The military often has a lot of spurs, BUT, they are not for the railroad's non military use. All these railcars at this facility seem out of place. I might add, that I own railcars; so I am pretty informed as to who can use the tracks.

      That old base is Near Yuma Colorado not Arizona part of Trojan and Atlas Powder Works LLC America LTD was the civilian ruse name. They renamed everything after something went wrong storing Nuclear Yellow Cake in one of the now buried vaults. They went right ahead and started a full blown renaming shit after 87... I doubt those rail road cars have moved in decades just made out of good old fashion metals is all. The rail road might be backing some kind of LOCAL coal cars they use into the facility for LOCAL uses at a LOCAL mine... The cars do seem in incredibly good condition. The cars seem to be hopper cars but I don't see any hopper facility there but doesn't mean there wasn't one if they dealt with Sulfur and boxite ores. The legend is they unsafely stored something like yellow cake and it ended up contaminating just certain things and they say that was done on purpose because the place was so outdated. Anyway I will research the names given to me and see what comes up on old munition plants

      THEKING SILVERADO those modern aluminum coal hoppers are actually in good condition and as the wheel tread is not rusted means they are still in service and have moved recently.

      Because if they were to get caught. the videos would be the evidence needed to put them away for 5-10 years federal time. Not to mention the hours of interrogation by military police investigators. As it stands, I certainly hope this video is not seen by an ex-MP that knows the location by its looks. Then they are screwed. There is NO statute of limitations on trespassing on federal military compounds. They may SEEM to be abandoned... But minutes after "finding" one of probably several classified areas they would be under arrest. In this case they didn't find any of them. They got lucky. GUYS! Stay away from military ANYTHING. Stick to almost ANYTHING else. Just say'n...

      Billy Bracewell your a smart man. The Au team not so much haha We do some pretty dumb stuff sometimes. I have had quite a few close friends say I can't believe you haven't been arrested for trespassing yet with the places you've been. I guess our new team motto needs to be "Safety Second" I can promise you this though friend we have no desire to go into Military situations in the future.

    I suspect this place is so toxic with asbestos ,fiberglass, and chemicals still in the pipes, and maybe too remote to recycle metals. I saw no wildlife, rabbits,squirils. birds, etc. Was there any?
