Dennis McCoy was one of the greatest to ever ride a Haro, Bob and Matt Hoffman are the other contenders. But, I am glad he mentioned Rick Moliterno, lesser known then DMC, but a great rider as well, and founder of Standard Bikes.
Haro has one of the best teams in BMX again now, I don't want to link but check out "Dennis Enarson's Right Here" if you want to see what the kids are up to in BMX these days!
I rod a green Haro BMX for YEARS! It had gone through every part possible, handlebars, tries, rims, stem, everything broken BUT the bike itself lol. Loved it.
I like how you could see the differences of how you got on between the two sizes in your riding footage. Definitely styling it more on the medium! Cool to see Haro bringing out something like this and not a cashgrab with their name.
Thanks- can you guess which footage is on which size? Hint, some of the voice over whining about the large is actually over the medium frame riding... I still enjoyed the large, but def preferred the medium.
With Nukeproof, Ragley, Vitus, and GG out of the picture; aside from Marin the value aggro hardtail market is up for the taking. Haro could’ve been really aggressive on the price to own the market, but they didn’t. It’s an opportunity missed imo. Great content Jeff.
Jeff, thanks for your integrity. The expression on your face when discussing the first version of the bike you received showed you were struggling to say something positive. Pretty clear you did not like the first bike. You did not cut out that video but, instead, kept it real despite the fact Haro was a new sponsor, The size of a bike can make a real difference. I trust your reviews like no other. In fact, I bought a Kona Process 134 on based on your review and absolutely love it. You nailed that bike right on the head! Great job.
Love the reviews, but I must correct you on one thing... I grew up in Tucson... pronounce saguaro with a "wh" not a hard "g" ;). sa-WHARRO. I've been riding my Rocky Mtn Growler 50 for 3 years now and I still love it, though I've upgraded the brakes, handlebars, grips, pedals, and tires. Soon will be upgrading the fork. But I am sold on being a 50 year old on a hard tail for many of the reasons you mentioned. As a dad, I shouldn't be flying at 30+mph on a full suspension rig... the crashes are tougher to recover from. The hardtail keeps my speed lower, tires me out faster (so I can get back to my family), and keeps my bike handling skills sharp. And the simplicity is especially valued as life seems to get more complicated. I raced my Trek 8000 with a Mag21 shock all over northern Arizona back in the mid 90's and had a fully rigid Diamondback Ascent in 1989, so I've been a fan of the hardtail thing for 35+ years. Still have my '81 Mongoose BMX bike too. Hardtails will never go out of style!
Nice option in the hardtail market. Reminds me of my Specialized Fuse Comp. Similar specs, geo and burliness, but just a smidge slacker. I kept everything stock, 2.6 tires as well and feel like I can ride anywhere and not feel too bad about not affording a second (full sus) bike. Beautiful bike and shredding!
I feel that hard tails are making a bit of a comeback! Great for mucky winter riding, pump tracks, etc. I’d definitely recommend one for those looking to simplify their MTB and/or increase the difficulty of terrain :) Great n+1… I built up a Banshee Enigma as a single speed and it’s so fun.
Ahhh, dude, Haro started maning mtn bikes in 1988. I got a 1992 Haro Extreme rigid when I lived in Maryland, and I still have it in excellent condition!!
I rode a Haro master back in 86, and currently own 3 older haro mountain bikes now. Im frigging STOKED they're getting back into the game of hardtails!!! This bike looks great!!.
Heck yeah another great video, I love watching your longer adventure videos. You're great at telling a story. One of my favorites was when you took the KTM to Sedona, no mountain bike and I'm not a motorcycle rider but it was still great.
Haro is the best BMX bicycle product and I was very happy when I was a child using Haro and this time it was very surprising that Haro made this cool hardtail mountain bike.
Picked up a Ragley Big Al 2.0 frame right before they stopped selling them stateside. The GEO and target market is very close to this Seguaro and I have rediscovered how much fun of a well done HT is on my local trails. My buddies all love my bike too and with this Haro hitting the scene, I’m sure one or two will end up in our crew VERY soon. Thanks for (another) great vid Jeff.
Just went to an aluminum Nukeproof Scout from a Chromag Rootdown and everything you mentioned regarding ride feel, compliance and fun factor landed dead center. Thanks so much for the thoughtful videos and hope to see you round the Ham!
My 1990 Haro Group 1 had that bent top bar. When I saw the Chromag Stylus with that top-tube, I had to have it. And what a good choice it was. Haro DJ should go back to the bent top tube. Because I want one.
So nice to see Haro built an aggressive hardtail. Love the design. So much fun watching you ride and review it. Been a fan of Haro as well. Brought back memories of my stolen Haro Master bmx back in mid 90's. I currently own a basic model Haro Double Peak Sport hardtail MTB for 5 years now, I find it durable and proud of owning here in the Philippines. More power brother!
If Haro made some enduro or all mountain style bikes I would be interested in checking one out. They are an O.G. bike brand as long as the R and D is there for a quality rig I would be stoked to ride a Haro!
Haven't been by the channel in awhile. Damn dude, your edits are really tight! Great job. As far as the bike goes, they nailed it on the colors. That thing is sick looking.
I love hardtails, especially where I live here in Minnesota. Our trails, with the exception of Duluth and the North Shore above Lake Superior, are mostly flowy and fun and perfect for a hardtail. I am glad Haro is making a legit mountain bike. I feel like they should have been one of the better MTB brands since the get go when they started doing mountain bikes in the 90s, but they have never committed to making good mountain bikes that compete with other brands. Maybe BMX takes of too much of their resources, I don't know. But they definitely should get more into MTBs and broaden their product line while being one of the better brands out there, especially geometry wise.
dang. you always remind me of my youth, from your "too short" shout out and now to fond memories of my haro bmx bike. jumping over trashcans and my moms flower garden......
@@JeffKendallWeed Matte Mauve is the official name for that color. Haro also offers the Saguaro in Metallic Green, but for my money, I'm going with pink/lavender/matte mauve. I already have the Norco Torrent A2 HT in that sweet green paint job.
I owned a 1998 Haro Escape A2, A3, and A4 -- all excellent hardtails, handled great, fairly lightweight, and I never should've sold them, but I needed money for a dualie.
I am looking at the lower end Haro for an electric swap, I am retired so getting outdoors and breathing the clean air with an electric pedal assist sounds good to me. I still have my 84 Rockhopper. This is for riding at the beach.
Sick bike! I'm stoked to see Haro back in the game. Would love to see you compare it to your Stylus. I just bought a ML Stylus frame that I can't wait to build up. As always, love the content. Keep up the great work!
I think that almost everyone at some point of their life owned Haro Bmx bike, myself included. So nice to see them “back” to the big scene, hopefully. 🙂
I really enjoyed this video and remember Haro well as I'm 57 and had a Haro box when I was much younger, fast forward and now I'm on a Trek Roscoe (medium at 5'8") speaking of which the Saguaro frame looks so similar to the Roscoe frame, I wonder if they're made in the same factory, that's a good thing, I love the Roscoe, it just goes anywhere all day and I think it's great on the 29x2.6 tyres also.
Wow I grew up with Haro! Aw yes the Haro Backtrail x2 in blood red as my 1st serious BMX bike. What a tank it was lol. I love hardtails and its Kool to see one of the most original company's getting serious with there MTB as its becoming the replacement of BMX for kids nowadays.
I used to ride the backtrail Nyquist signature frame back in the. Great to see haro doing something cool with mtb again. They did make a cool slopestyle full squish for ryan the thread.
“Cocky little s$&t!” 😂 Weren’t we all! Loved my puke green Haro Backtrail! Watching Nyquist tear it up! Great memories. Happy to see they are into MTB!
Just the fact of how well "Haro Saguaro" rolls off the tongue is a huge point in favor of this bike hahahaha. I had not even heard whispers of this one before, thanks for showcasing it!
Great review Jeff! Nice details. Also your riding is superb, I envy your manual hehe I'm a Haro fan too. But we don't have Saguaro here in the Philippines yet, not sure if they're introduce it here.

It's interesting to hear your thoughts on the sizing - I'm 5 '8 too, and my hardtail is a bit of a monster truck! 465mm reach, 64 HA, 78 SA, 425mm CS... I run it with a 35mm stem and 35mm rise bar. I haven't felt that it's too much for me to handle, it's great fun to ride. Although I am looking for a bar with a bit more compliance and sweep to make it a little more comfortable.
Definitely visible difference when riding the 2 different sizes. I see a lot of people riding large size when they actually would fit and ride a medium better.
sweet bike... many bikes using this 'rootdown' geo have realized this is about as a hardcore as you can take the geo or would like to on a hardtail. Exception maybe being the doctahawk and a bit more extreme on the ESD. However the failure of the Marin Elroy has only proven, there is only so far you can take geometry and fork length work without a proportionate pivot on the back (probably why Marin updated the San Quintens) Rootdown has now basically been imitated with slight deviations of maybe +- .5 Deg on HTA, STA and about 10mm on reach, chainstay and travel. (Roscoe, Knolly Tyaughton, Torrent, Meta HT AM, Pole Taivail just to name a few) One thing to note is fork travel. They really do work well at about 150mm max, without beginning to feel like a seesaw and this is still with a progressive high-end fork that is tuned to stay high in the travel... ALSO a fork that isn't too stiff. You may be tempted (as I was) to slap on a 38 or a Zeb, but its already a HT and at only 150mm of travel, a 36, Diamond, Lyrik, Z1 is PLENTY stiff. Don't believe me? Lets see your forearms after good 5 min chundry descent. Also show me on paper that you're any faster using a Fox 38 over a 36 at 150mm of travel. Its actually IMO unfortunate that everyone where I live, the trend gravitates to the largest forks they can, though its not the pacific NW nor bellingham, where being overworked has adverse effects to bike performance, especially riding anything other than descents. The sight being one of the most popular bikes where I live, when I ask these peeps... do you really prefer the Zeb, or 38 most of their answers are 'meh', it looks cool. edit... even XC moving to 34 for 100MM maybe as well. The Fox 831 could handle 4x, slopestyle and DJ and so does the current like of Manitou Circus. I just think homologating the chassis just makes manufacturing cheaper and sells the hyperbole that thicker is better.
You’re probably not the right person to ask Jeff but do you happen to know if they will release this as a frame only cuz currently it’s just completes and my parts bins are already pretty stocked, not a bad problem I guess tho lol
My 2nd bike was 1997 Haro Escape 7.4 hardtail. Pass it down to my son. It was stolen in 2020. Police found the frame in a homeless encampment. Rebuilt and had it stolen again in 2021. The homeless love Haro bikes!
Staring at my winter project- an RSD Middlechild. I’ve never owned a modern mountain bicycle… All my frames are hard tails but 26” and barely vee brakes. This bike looks very fun ! I went steel frame and hope to race enduros…after reading about reach and modern geo, it appears I’ve been riding a too big bicycle for over a decade :) this rsd has my ideal calculable reach and is medium- first impression it is a midgets bike 😊 but aint taken to the trails yet just… my kitchen floor 😂
I'm not a hard-tail connoisseur, but I do have a Canfield Bros. epo that I use for winter riding. I run it with a 2.8 27.5 rear and either the same or a 2.6 29er on the front. It's fun and light. And easy to wash down in our PNW winter riding. Too bad the dropper post is out for rebuilding right now. :(
As a 51-year old MTBer who spent many summers on his neon green Haro FST back in the mid 80s, it warms my heart to see Haro coming back into the MTB fold. I checked the website (I am currently about to pull the trigger on a new Santa Cruz Hightower) and I was sad to see no dual suspension bikes available. Hopefully they'll have a new all-mountain bike out soon?
Haro is a great bike. You forgot to mention Dennis McCoy rides for Haro. The guy is almost 60 and competing in X Games. Legendary stuff.

edit... even XC moving to 34 for 100MM maybe as well. The Fox 831 could handle 4x, slopestyle and DJ and so does the current like of Manitou Circus. I just think homologating the chassis just makes manufacturing cheaper and sells the hyperbole that thicker is better.
I miss my Haro team master all chrome. 48 spoke peregrine rims.....ahh the old days
My 1st “cool” bike ever was a Haro! Yes, headset cabling is goofy AF. Sick video!
I have the Marin San Quentin which is a super aggressive hard tail and love it. I also have a full squishy for more chunky trails
Great video , Will they be offering this as a frame only option ?
I'm new to the scene and never heard of Haro, but hardtails are cool. Nice riding!
Being a old school BMXer (SE Racing). Great to see Haro getting into MTB. Will they be doing a full suspension bike ?
Hi. Luka from Croatia here.
I drive Cotic BFe Max with 150mm fork, you should try it Mr.Weed,it's pure joy.
You're a manual master!
You’re probably not the right person to ask Jeff but do you happen to know if they will release this as a frame only cuz currently it’s just completes and my parts bins are already pretty stocked, not a bad problem I guess tho lol
Nice your from Washington state too, I thought it looked like you where at Galby
Heck yeah man! Looks so fun. No room in the stable for a HT but this is motivating me to do the next best thing and get my Spur back up and running.
My 2nd bike was 1997 Haro Escape 7.4 hardtail. Pass it down to my son. It was stolen in 2020. Police found the frame in a homeless encampment. Rebuilt and had it stolen again in 2021. The homeless love Haro bikes!
My dream now - Adventure bike with a mtb on the back
Crazy that Ryan Niquist is now on the east coast in Wilmington, NC.
You're going to love it. The Middlechild geo is built for fun. Total hoot to ride.
Love my RSD MIDDLECHILD , but I like 27.5
Awesome video dude.
Awesome video as always - stay safe out there!
That bike is gorgeous
so sick jeff, I remember gettin a Haro Nyquist edition when I was in high school. Love my ripmo now tho!
I like hard trail bikes. I have an old Santa Cruz carbon C and I didn’t know about Haro bikes! I definitely will look at one 😊
I thought the bike at the beginning of the video was looking rather large for you. Glad to see you got that sorted. Love hardtails!
My first BMX was a Haro 1 AL back in 99.
that is an awesome frame colour
Awesome! What is the maximum travel fork for this bike?
I started off mountain biking on a 1995 Haro impasse.
still the best reviewer in the game by miles 👏
just joined the Hardcore Hardtail gang with a ferrum NVHT from pinkbike. Loving the renewed joy and feel of a hardtail (save for the sore bum!)
Is that shot at 2:42 the large frame?
As a 51-year old MTBer who spent many summers on his neon green Haro FST back in the mid 80s, it warms my heart to see Haro coming back into the MTB fold. I checked the website (I am currently about to pull the trigger on a new Santa Cruz Hightower) and I was sad to see no dual suspension bikes available. Hopefully they'll have a new all-mountain bike out soon?
