@@MalyanDrum man, for sure agree about Quasimodo being a favorite. The pause in the ending, but then music still progressed in the measure when you resume playing... SO sick!! Garden of Sankhara is another favorite of mine, I'd love to see a playthrough of that!
I would say the entire Ammanuensis(not sure is right spelling) is pretty much a planetary alignment gone right in the solar system, is just sick production and creation of music, i can't get sick of it since it came out
@@paradoxical33 yeah I agree on that one ae the universe sent the amansuesis album out to balance the cosmic juju... It's become my number 1 album of all time tbh... I have no idea how prog ended up invading my shit so hard but it has and I'm glad it did 🤣🤣🤣
I've been so addicted to this song since I discovered it yesterday and, watching music videos and seeing you smile... God, I wish I learned how to play drums.
I keep coming back to this playthrough. That cymbal groove after the first chorus is so tasty, and seeing the pure joy while you play is an inspiration. You and Richie Martinez are at the top of the modern drum game, taking the foundation from so many greats before and forming them into something beautiful and new. I love it.
Absolute banger, love the kick pattern in outro part! Mike, your drumming is why I started following Monuments really closely right around The Amanuensis, brilliant stuff! Also had a pleasure to see you play live at Tampere, Finland!
Amazing!!! I have on my computer the video that you uploaded playing in "brutal assault 2015" and I love to see it, 'a great performance ", lol! At one point in that video, like a" tom "of the drums disarming and you also ask him to john browne of lowering the volume of something. I love your new sound and the drums. I hope that after the pandemic you can come with Monuments to play in Argentina and I hope for the songs "Atlas", "Quasimodo", "I, the creator"...
Sounds amazing, very respectable how you made it sound this good by yourself. Also nice how the description is worth reading. Not sure if everything is online already, but I'd love to see you do more stuff from Dispere's Foreword
You've always inspired me, Mike! So glad to see you putting in the work to create these awesome videos. And the candor is appreciated. It's one thing to see what hours of editing and fine tuning can do to create a "perfect" cover, but what I see here is the human element and tons of talent and fun. Great work!
Mike Malyan LOL how ignorant of me! That makes a whole lot of sense.. I kept thinking “wow this fella is so clean on the kit”. Been meaning to learn this track for a while but it’s hard to hear all the subtle hits/ghosts on the original track. Think this video fills that gap :)
Thanks so much! So glad you like it :D -Original Drummer Ps I played from the band since it began in 2010. I took a break from 2015-2020 due to injury. The only album I didn't play on was Phronesis (3rd). Pps Forgive my sarcasm. I genuinely appreciate your nice words :)
Awesome!! This is my favorite Monuments song and you did it justice. (i've been wanting to cover it for ages and some day I will! This is inspiring haha) This one and your cover of Walk With Me In Hell made me sub.
although I absolutely love Chris's vocals in this song, it's amazing to hear this as an instrumental. It reveals a whole new level of complexity :) amazing performance!
After going back and listening to the original singer, the new dude and even Chris just don't do it for me any more. The band would be awesome as instrumentalists (sorry I know everyone says this about bands with harsh vocals and it usually pisses me off too but.. Meh) EDIT: also when Chris just played sax instead of vocals was cool too
Appreciate it! I made that as part of a live intro after the album was released. There was also a dumb radio meme intro before it started, you can hear it in many live show videos as the intro
@@joeyrsnk9077 It was for a festival run, we wanted to open with a bang, so we started opening with Origin! The band ended up using this as the intro for all tours up til 2020 when I rejoined and we started with a Blue Sky Thinking intro
Mike I love your compositions (as a person and of course a band..) Although I can't (yet?) accurately cover them, it's damn fun trying.. This, I the creator, I can now watch the originals and learn from the man making them. Could you maybe upload drumless tracks to jam along to? It would be awesome. Keep rocking man!!
I'm afraid I can't - it's tied to the mechanical copyright which belongs to our record label! To share those would technically commit piracy against...ourselves... it's strange but their exclusive ability to distribute them is what keeps us earning from sales of the music!
Me gustó mucho tu video y me acabo de suscribir! Estaría genial si pudieras poner las tabs o partituras, así estaría ensayando con tus videos todo el dia!
Thanks man! I'd love to show it all off in a video :D thanks for the idea! This isn't the exact same kit, but it's made by the same company Vibe Drum - it's similar sizes and pure aluminium. That Animus kit lives at Babylon studios in Czechia ready to be played by anyone who goes there!!
Sounds sooo good. Don't know what it is but the way your kit is set up it really reminds me of Gavin Harrison's kit from the porcupine tree days. Also I'm curious, when you don't have a massive room to work with, what do you do to extract a good room sound out of your mics ? ps. When I see these kind of chops I still cannot believe this is the same man who played on Emma Blackery's EP LOL
Haha!! That EP was a fun session for sure but totally out of character for me! Aaah his playing back in those days was a big influence to me. I used to have a 3 up tom set-up as well but since my shoulder injury I've kept it to a 2-up! For fake room tone I've been using a few tricks. The main one is exciting the drum sustain a bit with a parallel compressor - then lately I've been using a plugin called Perfect Room by Denise for a room reverb. I'm amazed at how good that plug-in sounds especially under compression!!
1:59 Who else screamed "SEEKING TWOOOOO" and just started headbanging like crazy 😭😭
Polyrhythms guide him, cymbals fear him.
Awesome playthrough!
And kick skins 😂
This sounds so phenomenally good! Amazing mix! Are you using any plugins here or just EQ? Would love to see "I, the Creator" and "The Alchemist"!
