We used those same IKEA drawer banks for my wife’s sewing Center. They are a pain in the neck to put together, but work very well. Really like the tops.

After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans th-cam.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!

I'm researching building a desk for my work space. Didn't think about adding Ikea drawers, opting instead to building my own. But I saw how well they actually fit into your design and that may save a whole lot of time and look nicer than what I can accomplish.

I don't have any carpentry skill, but my cousins do -- and your video gave me an idea for a desk in a little nook of my master bedroom using the alex drawers plus the project panels -- before, I was thinking how to fit one of those ikea countertops into a nook that is just 68in wide. Instead, I'll definitively go with this.

I built a desk similar to the one in this video two years ago. I ended up making it about 10 feet long to fill an area in one of our bedrooms. It has been the best addition to our house, especially while my wife and WFH - we use it every day. Thank you for the inspiration, Travis! Looking forward to more awesome videos.

Just finished my office desk. Set it as a priority because I really needed a dedicated area where I could think and like you mentioned run my printers and soddering stations. Def. ready to start working on projects now

  • @karlnorthmedia2531

I dig this! I tried to make a similar desk a year ago. Burned the top and finished it all nice until I realized I needed to change the size. Having no saw at the time, I took it back to Lowe's and gave them the measurements for the panel saw. They flipped my measurements and ruined the whole thing. Haha! I just literally walked away and left the wood.
Now I am ready to try again. I have a lot more tools and know-how now. Just finished the basement in my new home myself.
Trying to figure out an easy-to-move desk at the bottom landing of my basement stairs. Stuck on ideas but I think your build might have inspired some tweaks.
    Loving the vids!

that propane burning of the wood reminds me of something a friend and mine did many years ago making min gofers to shoot at the range. ha ha.. nice table. my brother in law helped me make one using pine as the base and a laminated top..

Great project and channel! I like your attitude, attention to detail and choice of projects.
It occurs to me that a piece of 3" white PVC pipe, with about 1/3 of it ripped out lengthwise, would make an excellent cable tray. Mounted to the back ledger board as a trough with the top open, it would contain and hide your cables, preventing the need to attach them to the board individually.

VeritasOne another options is to buy a 4x4, cut it to size, and glue to the panel. Then you don’t have to worry about miter gaps.

For an office space that I NEED to get done. I was going to buy some used desk but I found that to be boring plus the better the desk the more expensive. I like your idea with the IKEA drawers. I'm just going to have to find a half to a full day to put those drawers together. Lol. Thanks . Keep it up.

I love doing the burnt wood finish (shosugiban), I do find it comes out really even when you go really dark then brush off the soot with a soft bristle brush, it would have also saved you from staining. That way also gives a nice texture to the wood.

Very helpful, thank you. April 3rd is my birthday coincidentally, heh. I want to completely remove every piece of furniture from my den and install hardwood floors. Then from there I want to install a really massive desk/entertainment center. If I'm able to pull it off it's going to be something really special. It's going to display my computer with three 34" ultrawide monitors, another computer with two 37" ultrawide monitors, a laptop running a 24" monitor, a PS4 with a 60" 4K tv... 2 Ibanez Jem, a Peavey Wolfgang, a Nuno Bettencourt N4, a Les Paul, a Seagull acoustic guitar, an Ibanez bass.... a BOSS Katana amp, a Marshall JCM800 Stack, a Line6 Firehawk FX effects processor.... and some other stuff... lol. So you can see why I decided against just buying a desk.

You really need to get one of those larger torches that hook up to a propane tank. I did a similarly sized table top that way, worked much better than using the tiny torch

    • @steveappleton4183
      @steveappleton4183 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Was thinking the same thing. When I saw the tiny torch first thought was that's not really the best tool for that, followed by "he definitely doesn't like the look of it either" when he busted out the super dark stain. Project as a whole turned out nice though.

Love the finish work on the desktops. I use the satin version of polycrylic, and I use 320 grit sandpaper just to knock down the dust nibs on my wood sign projects. This was one of the first videos I saw when you started out, and I backtracked to watch the workbench series before this video, so it's nice to know that I'm an OG, and still watching your videos to get inspiration for shop greatness! Keep up the great work, Travis!

Nice finish! Very bachelor style. I kinda did something like this, but didnt do the burned wood style. As for the desktop - I used a recycled desktop that my office was going to toss out. I took it home, painted black with cabinet paint and added a nice thick coat of polyurethane vs polycrylic. I found out the hard way when I was mounting it, the polycrylic with the cabinet paint it would scratch really easy and peel right off. So I had to un-mount it added a nice thick coat of the polyurethane. Wish I could add pictures, so you can check it out. Great vid, I'll keep watching more of ya stuff.
