    Spray a dilute mix of buttermilk mixed with turmeric powder for the black scales on Ficus. A friend of mine gave me this trick for my Ficus and has worked wonders for me.

    Pruning on the ficus r. will turn out a nice looking style for you. Cuttings will be a nice addition. Great updates.

    That rumphii seems like an interesting species. Yours has a challenging shape but I'm sure you'll eventually make it look great. I wish I could also find more ficus species for sale in my area.

    Strange style indeed but I am sure you will make it into something cool. This is the last warm weekend I think, tomorrow, winter is here!

    Thanks Nigel, love the updates. Sad the season is coming to an end, shelter in place and back strong in a few months! To get ribbon root theory is sound... I'm going to need some huge spreading pots for some Ficus now 😂. Thanks again!

    I always look forward to Ficus Friday- There's always something that renews a thought or goal I have. I need to continue to get my environment adjusted to encourage aerial roots. Thank you, Nigel!

    Hey nigel..I'm from India, and I see these ficus rumphii everywhere.
    I would honestly like to tell that , those 2 branches are extremely low lying, which won't look good in future...
    Instead, u can grow branches from the main trunk , atleast 15 cm above And then develop the spreading canopy..

    Hi Nigel, commenting here after long time. Glad to see that you have a Benghalensis & Rumphii. Rumphii is a very good material and responds well, but Benghalensis is difficult one.

    I am trying to reach the same style with my ficus. It's kot easy but It's a very natural look!

    Interesting tree, apparently Ficus rumphii is a deciduous species (according to some online sources). I wonder if this tree can get aerial roots, it'd make the planting look very interesting if it does.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they can definitely get aerial roots, they look similar to the Ficus religiosa, but behave more like a microcarpa!

    Nigel, is there a reason for spraying the scale before the extensive pruning that you did?

    Hey Nigel I missed the chat and I can't find it lol. But tovthe questions I asked was about your awesome little rake. Where I could find one and what type of tape are you using in the plant room

    • @skrounst
      @skrounst ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he has said in previous videos it was a gift. You can search Amazon for "Root rake" and there will be many options. I personally use a back scratcher, it's not as pointy, and the extending bit doesnt let me mess up and tear into the roots too hard. The tape looks like seaming tape, maybe 3M, or Stego Tape.

    • @GreenhornBonsai
      @GreenhornBonsai ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Julen Alegria that rake came from a thrift store/second hand store. I know nothing about the tape. Lol.
