Thanks mate, here an argentine that lived in NZ for about 20 years. We love the All Blacks down here and I will never forget the magnificent Dan Carter and the Crusaders.
Greetings for Los Pumas. In Chile we know them and every rugby fan admires and enjoy Pumas playing. Now the sky is the limit. Congrats for Argentine´s Los Pumas great rugby team.
@tecachenko5788 I'm also interested in seeing the other "sleeping giants" in the future, who have excellent sporting people. So many countries with outstanding sporting talent pools.
We'll each other tomorrow. Maybe we can write our most glorious page of our history. It will be incredibly hard but who knows... the hard you fight the bigger the glory... good luck for Los Pumas. Dreams come true❤
unexpected? Maybe to the northern hemisphere but us in the south saw this a long time ago when they were added to the then tri nations and the addition of the jaguares to super rugby. Clearly the exposure to frequent tier 1 nations matches has helped. The same could happen with Georgia or Fiji if given a fair chance.
@@Jordan-ws6jy true but then again look at the exposure Australia has had and for how long and how far they have fallen. It's got a lot more to do with the Argentinian spirit, determination and belief that they should be a top tier team 💪🏼🏉
As a New Zealander, I've been a fan of Argentina rugby since the 80s, so for me, I expected that Argentina would rise. Especially since the 90s, with the increase of New Zealanders for example, going all around the world to play and to coach rugby. When this happened, there was no doubt to me that other countries would quickly improve due to the sharing of rugby knowledge from countries like New Zealand to other countries who were keen to learn and to improve.
Argentina was amateur, On the contrary NZ, Australia, England, Ireland, South Africa they were all professional already. That was the only difference. Since Argentina became professional, they have started to improve tremendously against such opponents.
@@lecoexpands There were differences in Rugby ability between those countries going back to Amateur days. New Zealand, for example, always won against the Pumas. The main difference I feel was due to Rugby being the main sport for NZ, and not for Argentina, and that Rugby was deeply a part of NZ identity. That's why when NZers started to go abroad as players and coaches, they were welcomed wherever they went.
I spent some time in Argentina in the late 1990s. Some of the guys there were into rugby. Even then, I warned that they would be world class in a few years. The Argentinians are a tough and resolute bunch and when a bit of money was put in to the sport they started improving. I love the Argentine people. I'm a bok supporter but the Pumas 👍👍❤ Well done guys. I also warned last week that the Boks must not underestimate Los Pumas.😊😊
What Ireland and Argentina have achieved in rugby in the last 20yrs has been phenomenal, both countries before then were just afterthoughts, both have been reponsible for taking away the aura of the All Blacks and South Africa with far less resources

Joaquin Oviedo: remember that name. He will be the best N8 in the world. Only 23yo, playing 1st division with my club (Perpignan) and making us gain another level of performance last year (close to qualify playoffs of the toughest league in the world while we have the last budget). 20 tackles or + per game (proving a high lecture of the play), fantastic technique, insane runner and sense of positionning whatever your game plan, super rough on contact...Tonight he did an INSANE game against the boks, after having been incredible against the Wallabies. Him and Samso (+ others) will be the players that Argentina never had to raise the very, very highest level (AB, Boks) and gain REGULARITY in high performance. Here in Perpignan, Catalonia, we love our Pumas (Ruiz, De la Fuente) but Oviedo is on another planet ! Vamos Pumas ! Great Video !
@@WatchRugby24 Sure ! best 8 in the world you will see, and I am not even kidding ;) he and some others (Samso, Cinti, Chocobares, Ignacio Ruiz, Elias...) are the proof that since 2012 and 4 nations integration, Argentina gained another level in formation of young rugby players and create now very high level players who are immediately competitive in their very early 20's ! they are the very first generation like that while in the past argentine players gained full maturity between 25-30yo (except JM Hernandez) !

My favourite Argentina rugby moment? No doubt. Corleto's try in the opening match against France in 2007. That play had it all. The ball was in hands of the other team. An opportunity appeared when one of our stonecutters grabbed it, another of our stonecutters polished it and Nani Corleto inhaled the air of a rugby passioned nation to make that run and that score.
Been watching the Argentina rugby team since the seventies when they first played the All Blacks. I dont think there is anyone in NZ surprised at the success of the Pumas. They have been a tremendous rugby side for some time. They struggle for consistency at times but they are never to be underestimated especially at home.
Also, as a child, I remember watching the great Hugo Porta take the Pumas to a draw in 1985 vs the All Blacks and always held a favoured position in my heart for Argentinian rugby and so pleased with their progress. I always knew it was a matter of time as they are an exceptional gifted sporting nation and plays with passion 150%.
And 2 months on after this video was published, Argentina has played their best rugby year ever. They beat NZ, Aus and SA all in one year. So so so so proud, not only of what we have achieved this year but more so on the way they don't ever stop improving.
Muchas gracias😢

The only team in the world that has no foreigners, all the players were and are Argentines Obviously we grew little by little thanks to the excellent coaches from other countries who contributed a lot to Argentine Rugby. Now one of the most outstanding players in the World Cup in France is our Coach, Felipe Contepomi, who trained and studied Rugby with the best in Europe, tremendous experience that he is applying, we are beginning to see positive results, but I think that just like in Football there is a team spirit, of brothers, there is no selfishness, a human group that only looks to the future with faith and determination
I'm Argentine and live in the Southern Greater Buenos Aires area, a not so wealthy region but with a great tradition in sports. Apart from the local football clubs and societies you'll find here 5 important rugby places in a 20 km radius, some of them beyond centenary. Football gets the most publicity, but in the Argentine many other sports are very popular and not only among the well to do.
I come from a country where rugby is pretty much none excistent however living in ENgland, I have grown to be very impressed with the men who play it, including my son. for Argentina to grow in the way they did, is so magical! It's hard, very hard, keep going, keep going, very hard but they are getting there and it is absolutely fantastic!! Italy is progressing in a similar fashion and I hope, truly hope they will get there soon. These are giants, these men, brave, humble and kind. I LOVE IT!!!
After 2007 we were allowed to participate in the tournament with South Africa, New Zeland and Australia, that made the difference, loosing but playing against the best, until one day......

Don't forget that in the 70's and 80's Argentina had Hugo Porta, the best number 10 in the world at the time. Although fairly inconsistent, those Pumas were able to beat all the biggest teams in the world, except the All Blacks with whom they tied in 1985. They lost their way during the 90's but made a slow comeback in the 21st century.
in 1952 Pucara ( a club completely amateur ) beat Ireland , .... in the late 70 Banco nacion , another club of Buenos Aires ,with Hugo Porta beat England , the tradition of rugby in Argentina is very , very old , since the end of 800 ,
As a person born in 1971, I will never forget my time as a player in the city of Mendoza. I was lucky enough to face, for example, the former puma Federico Mendez (he was born in 1972). At that time (1985 - 1995 mol), in Argentina IT WAS A SIN TO BE A PROFESSIONAL. Years later, Mendez was kicked out of the Pumas for being a professional, and he was the first player to return to the Pumas as a professional. THIS DENIAL OF PROFESSIONALISM MADE ARGENTINA SET BACK ABOUT 20 YEARS. Time passed by, and in 2007, with many pumas playing in Europe and with the preparation of elite athletes, we began to play according our talent, and stopped losing games for reasons of strength or physical preparation. Now, Argentina can face any great opponent on equal terms. You can lose or win, but not for reasons of amateurism.
Creating a franchise called pampas Xv during earlies 2010, giving international south american competition to argentina Xv (now too with couple franchises at super rugby Americas) and then joining Super Rugby from 2016-2019 getting to final match against crusaders also helped a lot, great video mate cheers from 🇦🇷
Rugby in Argentina was an amateur sport, mentored by South Africa since the late 1960's. It grew in secondary school teams, private sporting Clubs, and teams of the universities rugby league. After 2007, Pichot advocated for Argentina to be included in the rugby championships, and they're accepted on the conditions to make rugby a professional sport in Argentina. And after more than 10 years of intense work, the results are coming in in the different categories: Pumas, Pumas7s, Jaguars, etc. Argentinian Rugby fans were and are very proud of our rugby teams. Generally, Argentinians follow and support all around the world our sporting teams ❤

@WatchRugby24 Thank you for the video and for your comments. It has been harder by the fact that the Pumawere the only team from the continent playing in the international rugby, as you can imagine. It's great that Uruguay, Chile and other South America countries are sharing the passion for rugby too. I grew up watching my friends playing on Sundays, and love love love r
Every country that British lived in they brought Rugby, Soccer and Cricket. Sometimes Baseball too, which is how the US got it. It's just that different countries took to different games.
A very important point about Argentine rugby is that we don't play in schools. We have our own club, in our neighbourhood or in our city where we feel a great sense of belonging. We play rugby in our clubs but we also hang out, as children we are there every day in the summer. When we stopped playing rugby we still went to the club to have dinner and remember old times with other ex-players. It's like having 2 things and in this one you are with all your friends. It is something important to understand Argentine rugby, if you watch a Pumas match in Argentina you will see many flags and jerseys of different colors in the stands and this is it. Everyone who goes wants to see their club represented
While Argentina is rising in rugby, it can't be the same of the Wallabies. There was one rugby player for Argentina in the 80's and he was Hugo Porta. If he was playing today, he would probably be considered the best fly-half in the game.
@@WatchRugby24 Nope! The downfall of Aussie rugby has got to do with greed. Greed from those in charge. They spend so much money on their HQs that at the end of the day, there isn't enough left for junior development. They have also gone woke and that doesn't work here. Next year Rugby Australia get a very talented player from my rugby league team the Sydney Roosters nd his name is Joseph Suaalii and they are paying a hell of a lot to steal him away from rugby league, yet RA are broke and can't pay their other players as much. Mismanagement is Rugby Australia's problem.
Great video my friend! You totally nailed it. As an Argentinean that played rugby when I was child, I can totally agree with all what you said. We had moments but were just that, some moments, now the differences is that the team is looking super solid thanks to the professionalism and playing agains giants. Totally happy with this and I can say that the level in the competitions will level up which is great!! Thanks for sharing the video
Great video. Something missing is the RWC 2015 performance, where Argentina finished 4th and Nico Sánchez was the top scorer of the tournament. This also was the first Rugby World Cup where no Northern Hemisphere team got beyond the quarter-finals, with the final rounds being The Rugby Championship 🏉🏆. Letting Los Pumas 🏉🐯🇦🇷 join the rugby championship made everyone stronger 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Argentinian here, just so you know how huge an offset this streak the Pumas is for us, back in the day (not even five years ago) we considered just givin the All Blacks or the Wallabies a decent fight a huge achievement, "derrotas dignas (dignified defeats)" we called them.
We were never little kittens, even in defeat. There were also full stadiums in the 70's when Argentina played test matches against big teams from Europe, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Those matches were shown on TV and they were rough whith plenty of fist fights between the players (this is before you were instantly sent off for that). Hugo Porta was a hero and we drew against the Springbooks with a Porta scoring a legendary try. Never Kittens.
Such an unfair way to talk about the history of rugby in Argentina…seems the narrator forgot about the tour to South Africa where actually the national team was baptized as the Pumas by the South African journalists…and what about the great Hugo Porta? Once considered among the best players if not the best at the time…anyway thanks for the attention to our rugby, we will continue to make progress despite the lack of relevant tournaments with the exception of the Rugby Championship….
@@WatchRugby24 I liked it. It could be more in depth, but saying it's offensive is a but much. If you ever do a follow up, I'd definitely talk a bit about our best players who popularized/professionalized it, the SA tour, the national league, players leaving to europe (iirc only 1 player from the 2007 squad played in our league, they mostly played in France and England) and also los Jaguares, the team that joined Super Rugby in 2015 and lost the final to the Crusaders in 2019
In 1994 my High School in Johannesburg sent 2 teams to tour Argentina for a month (12 games in total) under 18's drew their tour 6-6 while my class got hammered 9 games with only 3 wins, the following year my school received an incomming Argentinian tour and they also gave us a hiding on home soil...good times. Los pumas . Vamos republica argentina. ❤. Love to see argentinian rugby has risen . It is good for sport. When a team dominated rugby it is boring. Now it is a great sport to watch. ❤
Very emotive narrative, but totally inaccurate. Rugby was very developed in Argentina 50 years ago and even earlier. They were never at the level of the top teams, but since the 1970s there were victories over England, France, Australia. A tie with the AB in the mid 80s. When rugby became professional everywhere in the 90s, Argentina lost a step, and the recovery from that started with the 2007 world cup that ended up with the entrance in the Rugby Championship and Super Rugby.
I think that 1999 WC started to show the real potential of the argentinian rugby, although 2003 WC was a choke we were out just by 1 point against Ireland. In 2005 we defeated England in Twickenham, something was brewing up with that team. 2007 WC confirmed that, then it was a matter of having at least 30 players at top level and competing against the best regurlarly (before 2012 Argentina could only play 6 test matches a year). Future looks great.
You r forgetting that before the 2007 World Cup Argentina, in spite that Rugby is amateur there, had had great success at the World Cups. Even during last century they had beaten absolutely all the rugby powers but the All Blacks, with whom they had tied. Even in thise tines where there were no good cameras and the refs were still much more biased against The Pumas than they are now.
Very true. They've always had the odd victory here and there just lacking the consistency but being able to beat all three teams in TRC in one tournament is such an amazing achievement 🔥🇦🇷
Thank you for that video i almost fall in tears as an ex argentinian rugby player. Just would love to add that, We had a team at the Super Rugby call Jaguares that make it to the final of the tournament only loosing against the Crusaders.
Such a good true story fairytale. From kittens to Pumas, they now can be very proud of how far they have come. I may be a proud All Blacks fan, but I also can't help but feel proud of the Pumas ^^ and very impressive win over the world cup holding Springboks yesterday ^^
No one took seriously? A surprise? I don't think so. Los Pumas have been a top but volatile team for years, but have invariably performed well at the highest level, competing at the World Cups and in Rugby Championship. On several occasions they have outplayed their opposition but failed to secure the result unlike the Springboks who have often been the second best team on the pitch but come out 'on top' - "found a way to win" as they prefer to read it. England have had a similar fortune. Maybe that trend is about to change....
Yes their new found consistency of being able to find wins against the best of the best game after game with historic scorecards is surprising. Yes they've always had the potential but lacking consistency
The fact that Los Pumas are a top rugby nation with 8 out of 10 people in the country dont giving a crap about the sport is amazing. The world of rugby knew this, so to correct you, no one ever "laughed" at Argentina, the respect for Los Pumas is really high. The moment they start giving a crap they will be top 3 in the world, and a serious world cup contender. Only NZ, SA, AUS, FR and ENG are above ARG (In the last 15 years, not just 2024). Before you mention Ireland, Los Pumas beat them almost every time they face in a world cup. Football will always be ARG number one sport and they are the best in the world, and that wont change in a near o long future.
what about NZ theyve won multiple world titles in softball, hockey, cricket, league, netball, rugby and others with only 5 million according to google rugby is second, third sport in Argentina softball and hockey wouldnt even make NZs top 10 sports yet theyve won world titles in those sports Argentina like Ireland are good but they havent won any world titles in rugby whereas NZ have multiple times in sports far minor than rugby in Argentina
Argentinia is not only about soccer. We played Tenis, Basquet, we have many car racing leagues, and always played rugby, but until modern days, it was mostly amateur. Rugbiers didn't received any payment, most of players were Laywers, doctors, engineers, profesionals of different disciplines, taht played rugby. And some of them called to by members of the Los Pumas. Then, a profesional league existed, but the pay is not even close to the pay on soccer clubs, so many of our rubgiers started looking for opportunities in France or England. They learned from the best teams in Europe. Los Pumas evolved accordingly, and now we can play excellent matches versus the best of the best teams. Maybe we will raise the cup soon this year... just wait one more week. It could be fantastic.
@@WatchRugby24: not "some" but, 9 out of10 best players of the world, are consistently, from ARGENTINA, tge best teams and if is more dominant in POLO than football, ARGENTINA!! Research it and make a video...
Vamos Los Pumas.
@@WatchRugby24 Solo remarcarte algunas observaciones. Saludos.
As a former rugby player in Argentina, I played as a win and fullback my two role models were Jonah Lomu and André Joubert. The second one I had the opportunity to meet him back in 1994 when they came to the city of Rosario and I was only 13 years old! Like the movie Gladiator: Respect and Honor to all rugby players!
Hardly unexpected. Argentina have had field hockey, rugby union and cricket for over a hundred years brought over by the British along with association football. Cricket died a death after the 1940s with the passing of many of the Anglo generation but all the other sports thrived although hockey & rugby are primarily sports for the middle & upper classes as opposed to football.
n Argentina we always had a Rugby culture, for many years. They are the kids with money, those who attend expensive schools, those who play rugby. And recently, and in indigenous populations and in prisons, it also began to be practiced. There is a team of blind people who play rugby, called the bats. And we always, always play to win. Now with more tactics, more energy and more strategy, but the passion remains intact. To understand an Argentine and his search for victory, you have to listen to his national anthem: "Let us live covered in glory, or swear with glory to die."

unexpected? Maybe to the northern hemisphere but us in the south saw this a long time ago when they were added to the then tri nations and the addition of the jaguares to super rugby.
Love to hear it 🙌🏼 thanks for sharing

No doubt. Corleto's try in the opening match against France in 2007.

After 2007, Pichot advocated for Argentina to be included in the rugby championships, and they're accepted on the conditions to make rugby a professional sport in Argentina.
Argentinian here, just so you know how huge an offset this streak the Pumas is for us, back in the day (not even five years ago) we considered just givin the All Blacks or the Wallabies a decent fight a huge achievement, "derrotas dignas (dignified defeats)" we called them.
Still many say that it's not "unexpected at all" haha the huge growth in Argentina rugby over the past few years has been incredible 💪🏼🔥
@@chapero1 we'll keep that in mind. Just a comparison used to emphasize the growth in the last millennium 🙌🏼
You forced a draw against NZ back in 85 I think
They did a magical game with Hugo Porta. 21-21 Argentina v New Zealand
Totally... this guy clearly does not like Argentina
@@jr8495 didn't mean to offend. Rather to give them some recognition as a team that has come a long way since starting out 🙌🏼
100% agree... this video does NOT reflect Argentinian rugby at all
@@WatchRugby24 I liked it. It could be more in depth, but saying it's offensive is a but much. If you ever do a follow up, I'd definitely talk a bit about our best players who popularized/professionalized it, the SA tour, the national league, players leaving to europe (iirc only 1 player from the 2007 squad played in our league, they mostly played in France and England) and also los Jaguares, the team that joined Super Rugby in 2015 and lost the final to the Crusaders in 2019
Muy bueno, great video man. You really got the spirit of the country man

I knew once Argentina joined the Rugby Championship with NZ, Aus and SA they would go up another level. Well done boys!

its incredible what this team did along the years, they will surely get the world cup someday. greetings from tero violado, cordoba
@@tinchote agreed there were odd victories here and there but as mentioned at the 2007 world cup with Agustin Pichot pivoted them to a whole new level
Thank you 🙏🏼
Truly a country with unmeasurable talent in sports 🔥🙌🏼
Amazing to hear 🙏🏼❤️
It was well worth the journey to make my way to the game Saturday to see them beat the Springboks again
Wow must have been incredible to see it live
You r forgetting that before the 2007 World Cup Argentina, in spite that Rugby is amateur there, had had great success at the World Cups. Even during last century they had beaten absolutely all the rugby powers but the All Blacks, with whom they had tied. Even in thise tines where there were no good cameras and the refs were still much more biased against The Pumas than they are now.
Very true. They've always had the odd victory here and there just lacking the consistency but being able to beat all three teams in TRC in one tournament is such an amazing achievement 🔥🇦🇷
Tks, beautiful video ¡
Many thanks! 🙌🏼🇦🇷

I may be a proud All Blacks fan, but I also can't help but feel proud of the Pumas ^^
and very impressive win over the world cup holding Springboks yesterday ^^
Glad you enjoyed it and yes what an upset they brought to the boks 💪🏼
No one took seriously? A surprise? I don't think so. Los Pumas have been a top but volatile team for years, but have invariably performed well at the highest level, competing at the World Cups and in Rugby Championship. On several occasions they have outplayed their opposition but failed to secure the result unlike the Springboks who have often been the second best team on the pitch but
come out 'on top' - "found a way to win" as they prefer to read it.
Yes exactly since the Pichot, Contepomi era Argentina has been looked at in a new light by the rugby world 💪🏼🇦🇷
what about NZ theyve won multiple world titles in softball, hockey, cricket, league, netball, rugby and others with only 5 million according to google rugby is second, third sport in Argentina softball and hockey wouldnt even make NZs top 10 sports yet theyve won world titles in those sports Argentina like Ireland are good but they havent won any world titles in rugby whereas NZ have multiple times in sports far minor than rugby in Argentina
not to mention NZ finished 11th at the olympics thats crazy for 5 million people and are the Americas cup world champions thats on at the moment
It would be the upset of the century if Argentina managed to beat South Africa at home and take the trophy 🏆🤯
WONDERFULL POST!
Appreciate it 😎

Vamos Los Pumas.
Amazing comment. We appreciate you taking the time to share 🙌🏼🙏🏼

To understand an Argentine and his search for victory, you have to listen to his national anthem:
