  • The situation that you face does not matter nearly as much as your response to it. Which reveals our heart. Which can be re-formed.
Join us as we walk through Dallas Willard's book, "Renovation of the Heart" with John Ortberg.

“A disciple is simply somebody who has put Jesus in charge of their spiritual formation…and if I want Jesus to form me the only way to do that is to become his disciple.” So good. Thank you John for this encouragement today.

This is so akin to what God has been teaching me in the last year. I do these things because I have a sinful nature and this why I need a Savior. I appreciate your transparency and vulnerability. Satan binds us up in guilt and shame and living in it prevents us from growing and truly being salt and light. It’s only when we take our masks off that we can experience true community and “be” the church. This is a lesson I experienced over 20 years ago and have realized it is one that continues on throughout life. I’ve known of this book for decades but never read it. Thank you for focusing on it. I am looking forward to these talks.

You make things that can be confusing at times for me, understandable. Thank you! I loved, “The situations in which we find ourselves are never as important as our responses to them, which come from our spiritual side.” A lot to ponder and observe about how I respond to situations in my life, while guarding my heart! ❤️

Thank you John. As I'm listening to you this morning I can't help but think about what I am reading in the book, "You Are Not Your Brain". Those experiences we've had as children, be it good or bad received by our relationships with our caregivers with their own brokeness, it's overwhelming to think about having a response like Jesus sometimes. Thank you for the encouragement.

This really hit home. Especially when he talked about everyone has had a spiritual formation, terrorists and saints. Thanks for doing this John. These short talks are a great way to start my day.

omgosh. "dallas for dummies". i tried years ago to read one of his books (since you love him so) and don't consider myself as one who has trouble digesting thought provoking theological material (i've been known to read N.T. Wright), but as you stated, dallas' writing can be quite "dense" and i admittedly gave up, thinking to myself "i'll just enjoy it when john ortberg condenses it down in simplified form for me". so many many thanks and i am one of those you are referring to! :)

Thanks for actually saying "Dallas for Dummies" since that is what I feel I need when I try to read his great books.

Thank you, John, for sharing your shoes and hotel experience. (That could have been me!) your vulnerability draws me into things I find myself not wanting to look at. I’ve so appreciated these short teachings over the last several months.

I love that you said Dallas Willard writings could be dense (not dunce, haha). I have had that struggle so thank you for taking this season to walk through one of his books !

    WOW
Great teaching today. How we all battle with the flesh. I find myself at moments when I try to lean on my flesh and not trust God at that moment in time. Looking forward to series
