The true ending to Chrono Trigger, where Lavos is defeated, everyone returns to their place in time and Crono and Marle fly around the world clinging to the balloons, always makes me feel emotional. Even to this day, after playing through Chrono Trigger multiple times, I still feel sad when it comes to the end.
It's very bitter-sweet. The characters were never supposed to meet each other, they are all from different periods of time and were only brought together my a mere accident. But you become connected with them, and if you do their side missions you develop an even greater attachment. So it's sad when they all leave, even if it is required. That's just good story telling.

The last ending was added in the DS version, which came after Chrono Trigger, in order to tie the character "Guile" present in the latter with the prequel. He guy is a magician wielding a floating rod, which clearly doesn't have any memory of the events in Crono Trigger. But Amnesia could just do the trick

The so-called "grandfather paradox" has to do with killing your ancestor. However this paradox can be resolved. See "Solution to Grandfather Paradox" by minutephysics.

Still the best RPG I've ever played in my entire life. I'm so glad after 13 years of reluctance, I finally played this. One of the best decisions I ever made. Well-written characters, engaging story, multiple endings for multiple replayabilities, challenging gameplay, there's just too many to list. I feel like THIS is how Final Fantasy should be. Chrono Trigger is like the childhood friend who is always there, always the first to greet you, to welcome you back in your hometown. It will always have my heart.
You should have put each of them what you did to get those endings. So it doesn't confuse us what happened before that ending happened. Why on earth did they live on dino age? Why did frog married the queen? Why did Crono became the bad guy?? So I wanna know what you did to get those endings..

The shadow figure proportion we see looks too small to be Magus, but also too big to be Frog. This was obviously intentional. Symbolically there isn't meant to be any winner of the fight, this isn't the canon ending. The first one is the only one that is.
Magus won. Creepy music, creepy sound effect, tall guy with a cape, brooding. Magus was at his peak, Frog simply couldn't do It alone - but he tried because of honor. It's a sad ending.
In the DS remake the character name slots are extended to allow for 6 letter names. Also, Crono's name is actually meant to be Chrono, but was changed in the US release to distinguish the character from the title of the game and also due to the name length limits imposed by the SNES (5 letters only.)
I remember playing this game to death...getting every single ending, level ** for all characters...I probably played this game more times than any other game in existence. Loved it...but this is going back to the SNES days. I have played the remake but not nearly as many times. The first ending (in this video) was always my favorite. I like the wedding ending too ;)

i beat this game relatively recently(within the last few years). i dont remember which ending i got. i played without any guides and without looking anything up. so i didnt do any special rituals or anything. i do remember i got the clone by pure luck.....i was playing the carnival games and i'm kind of obsessive-compulsive and i just HAD to win at every game......regardless of the prizes.....
+Nico Beans The endings vary depending WHEN you fight Lavos, not what you used. If you used the bucket after completing all sidequests, you will get the same ending as if you were using the ship to get to Lavos (again, all sidequests done).
That ending is dependent on whether you crashed the Epoch into Lavos or not. If you crashed the Epoch, then Crono's mom doesn't chase his cat through the portal. If you didn't, though, she does, and then Crono, Lucca and Marle use the Epoch to try and find them.
That Kenichi Nishi and the other guy (guardian laying on the ground) lost weight during development?!? It must be stressfull to develop this game I guess. Astonishing.
I didn't realize the core of the story of Chrono Trigger is tragic, at least for one of the characters... When we achieve the happy ending of the Chrono Trigger, then the Magus will lose his memory of Schala.
from what ive heard is that DS allowed more characters and crono's name was supose to be ''Chrono'' named after the game, thats why they increased the characters from 5 to 6 in the DS version

There is a B version ending of Reunion. If you don't wreck the Epoch it ends with Marle and Lucca jumping in the ship and going to revive Chrono. Its more complete and makes more sense than the balloon version of Reunion. Its also very similar to the B ending of Beyond Time with the same sequence of the Epoch flying through the eras. Then it cuts to the part of Marle waiting at Death Peak. Most versions of the game also show a photo after the credits showing Marle did succeed in bringing Chrono back (got cut in a few versions like the original American port for some odd reason).
The worst ending HANDS-DOWN is the balloon one. There is nothing romantic about seeing two people being carried away by balloons, never being able to go home ever again, never being able to go anywhere ever again and suffocating to death! There is nothing cool about THAT being their reward for SAVING THE WORLD.

I did some research on the endings when i was progressing through the endings, and i stumbled on (cannot put links in comments so i add this in the description). On the bottom of that page it shows those endings u mention, and it says that they are all similar to eachother so i didnt bother.
i didnt put in some endings like the a,b,c where the scene is the same, but frog is in a human form or something like that + the bad ending where lavos destroys the world. if those are the ones that u mean
Ending 1 had me crying, ending 1b is fricking adorable, ending 2 is depressing since they all just LEFT.... ending 3 is very entertaining, ending 4 I will sadly NEVER be able to unsee, ending 5 was funny, ending 6 is incredibly confusing, ending 7- YEAH AYLA CHASE THOSE REPTITES XD ending 8 was actually kind of satisfying, ending 9- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ending 10 is kind of scary, ending 11 is what I had to see many many times over trying to find ending 12, ending 12 was worth it, and ending 13 is probably the darkest and most upsetting ending out of all of them.
start a New Game +, and when you get to Lucca's Teleportation thingamabobber, enter the right telepod and fight Lavos. Or you can kill Lavos in the Ocean Palace (when you're supposed to lose).
Ending #2 (where you win without Crono) had Crono's silhouette walking towards Marle as she runs towards him at the end in the version I remember - don't know why the one shown in this video is different
The Dino Age is the best, but also doesn't make sense.. truth be told that most of the endings state "Because you beat Lavos too soon , you never fully grown as a warrior, and saved the world from another perils"..so we are suppose to belive that because we killed lavos before Killing Magus (for instance) made Frog(glenn) go alone to avenge his master... (and even though there is no lavos, Magus is still evil). But even than it makes sense, frog alone didn't had the power to overcome Magus. But that is not the case in DINO AGE, because we kill lavos at 1999 so all dinossaurs are already extinct, we didn't prevent Lavos to come to our world, only Lavos Day that would end humanity, sure when you kill him in the black omen you get the best end (saving the dark ages/middle/future), but this doesn't change the pre historical age.
ok, i know this comment's a little old, but i felt the need to address this. you get the Dino Ending if you defeat Lavos before defeating Azala, so the dinosaurs, or reptiles as the game calls them, never went extinct.
So basically at the end of Chrono Trigger 5 years after the princess and Chrono have a child maggots from a different timeline come to their timeline and slaughter them and they set the baby princess from their time to their past. So it's like with Chrono cross basically explain time travel and alternate dimensions, so Chrono Cross is more like a prequel sequel, so there's a chance for a continuation of Chrono Trigger 2 if they make it
he's really called glenn also, when he was human cyrus called him glenn also the people in the kingdom in 600 a.d , lucca called him frog when he tagged along to party.
I know i didnt do all the endings of 1c,d,e, but the reason why i didnt do that is cuz they were the same if i remember correctly. The only diffrences were that other characters appear, and frog change into a human so i didnt put the effort in it to do all those just for the same screen

Both are pretty great endings. But the second one means that they could still travel in time and have adventures.

I think there are audio problems with this. The sound keeps going away for minutes on end. And other times, the quality goes down.

i didnt put in some endings like the a,b,c where the scene is the same, but frog is in a human form or something like that + the bad ending where lavos destroys the world. if those are the ones that u mean
Ending 1 had me crying, ending 1b is fricking adorable, ending 2 is depressing since they all just LEFT.... ending 3 is very entertaining, ending 4 I will sadly NEVER be able to unsee, ending 5 was funny, ending 6 is incredibly confusing, ending 7- YEAH AYLA CHASE THOSE REPTITES XD ending 8 was actually kind of satisfying, ending 9- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ending 10 is kind of scary, ending 11 is what I had to see many many times over trying to find ending 12, ending 12 was worth it, and ending 13 is probably the darkest and most upsetting ending out of all of them.

start a New Game +, and when you get to Lucca's Teleportation thingamabobber, enter the right telepod and fight Lavos. Or you can kill Lavos in the Ocean Palace (when you're supposed to lose).
I did all that solo'ed with Crono and had done that after i maxed his stats out with the best gear in game the Rainbow gear. XD

Ending #2 (where you win without Crono) had Crono's silhouette walking towards Marle as she runs towards him at the end in the version I remember - don't know why the one shown in this video is different

Only one I ever really struggled with was the one at the end of the black omen with Queen Zeal and that's optional anyway.

The Dino Age is the best, but also doesn't make sense.. truth be told that most of the endings state "Because you beat Lavos too soon , you never fully grown as a warrior, and saved the world from another perils"..so we are suppose to belive that because we killed lavos before Killing Magus (for instance) made Frog(glenn) go alone to avenge his master... (and even though there is no lavos, Magus is still evil). But even than it makes sense, frog alone didn't had the power to overcome Magus.
But that is not the case in DINO AGE, because we kill lavos at 1999 so all dinossaurs are already extinct, we didn't prevent Lavos to come to our world, only Lavos Day that would end humanity, sure when you kill him in the black omen you get the best end (saving the dark ages/middle/future), but this doesn't change the pre historical age.
ok, i know this comment's a little old, but i felt the need to address this. you get the Dino Ending if you defeat Lavos before defeating Azala, so the dinosaurs, or reptiles as the game calls them, never went extinct.
Sure we never defeated her, but lavos crashed to earth thus killing them. But I guess you are right.

So basically at the end of Chrono Trigger 5 years after the princess and Chrono have a child maggots from a different timeline come to their timeline and slaughter them and they set the baby princess from their time to their past. So it's like with Chrono cross basically explain time travel and alternate dimensions, so Chrono Cross is more like a prequel sequel, so there's a chance for a continuation of Chrono Trigger 2 if they make it
he's really called glenn also, when he was human cyrus called him glenn also the people in the kingdom in 600 a.d , lucca called him frog when he tagged along to party.

I know i didnt do all the endings of 1c,d,e, but the reason why i didnt do that is cuz they were the same if i remember correctly. The only diffrences were that other characters appear, and frog change into a human so i didnt put the effort in it to do all those just for the same screen
