I’m so happy that TH-cam is being used to help ancient traditions stay alive.

It's good to see that Sashiko looks like an absolute mess on the backside. Makes me fear trying it much less!

Three days ago I discovered 手ぬぐい, which resulted in discovering 刺し子。I had never heard of it before. Sounds interesting.
I ordered your 刺し子キット yesterday from Amazon US. The Coaster DIY kit. Plus another similar sashiko set from another company & two books about sashiko. I ordered the kit as a gift for my wife, but if she doesn't want to try it, or have time, I will give it a try myself. I hope it looks good when completed.
A funny coincidence, a few days before discovering sashiko I watched a youtube video about the Ainu. One scene was of a woman doing embroidery. She was using this unique palm thimble. Now I know she was probably doing sashiko.

Thank you for the comment and purchase. The kit we provide is quite unique, using the specific needle, thimble, fabric, and threads. I hope you (& your wife) can get a gripse of Sashiko by enjoying a set and this TH-cam. The Sashiko books may describe something different from what I say, but please understand that I believe there isn't thing as "Right" and "Wrong" in Sashiko. Some of the technique and wisdome I share on TH-cam may not work with the other supplies from the other provider.
I am very much interested in & respect to Ainu as well. I do not categorize Ainu in Sashiko to be honest. They are both individually beautiful Japanese hand-stitching culture. For understanding what I would like to introduce in terms of Sashiko, please check our website (upcyclestitches.com) and watch some of my stories on this TH-cam.
Let me know if we can help you enjoying Sashiko more.
      Atsushi

Gorgeous. I filled out the questionnaire on your website. Hope to take the online course. I live in SoCal, so NY is out, unfortunately.

I thought you didn’t use knots in Sashiko. Also, if you leave the loops (when you change directions) then when you cut them off even with the material, doesn’t the thread come loose and eventually come unraveled?

Thank you for the comments. Please understand that this project is "making a coaster".
In order to answer the questions, it requires a lot of time. As of now, because of the limited capacity, we answer the technical questions for those who take our workshops or our supporter. I appreciate your interest & understanding to the capacity.

You won't cut the loops. It's a coaster. The back will be covered, so you can have knots, and loops, they'll be covered.

That's what the fabric bond is for, it seals everything in place. It's a coaster, so it's supposed to lay flat and it probably won't get enough hard use to unravel.
