Congrats on over 5,000! I was here at just under 200 wondering way there wasn’t many - many more viewers. I loved watching the progression from charcoal to painting. I have a bit of a childish cartoon brain and around the 3:57/4:00 minute mark I saw an alien with a ponytail 😆. Once seen it couldn’t be unseen. Then it morphed around the 5:25 mark and became vase and tulips again. Magical. I’m looking forward to seeing the new sketchbook cover next week. Have a lovely week. TFS

Congrats on hitting the 5000 subscriber mark! It’s your enthusiasm and generousity that draws us in and compels us to stay. As a former wardrobe consultant I am enthralled by your clothing changes. You spark such great ideas. Those two new sweaters/jumpers, the gold and the orange are fantastic. I love the attached collar that becomes a neck hugger, and the gold one urges me to pull out my knitting. Have a lovely week.
Hello Gaynor, amazed at the transition in your painting from being a lovely vase of tulips,(which I’m sure many people would have stopped at)to becoming the mother of a table and chairs scene !! I love your videos. I start my days off with your videos and coffee! Inspired to try charcoal. I love where this painting is evolving. Thanks for sharing!
I loved the line 'remember, you can throw everything at it' 😂 Also loving these new (home sew job?) cap-sleeve jumpers. This was, as always, a treat for the eyes and ears. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your wonderful videos. 5k and counting 😍
Congrats on reaching 5,000!!!! It is 4am here in Ohio & I frequently am watching your videos at this time of the morning while sipping my morning latte. I just absolutely Love watching you paint & tackle a subject. Thanks for sharing the new sketchbook. My personal fav of this painting was the version before the grey table. I like the contrast of the tan/yellow better than the grey but I am not a grey person. Love the addition of the chair. I actually did a watercolor of a chair from a magazine last week ---that's progress!
Congrats on 5,000 Gaynor! It’s been a real pleasure watching your channel grow and evolve - much like your painting this week! 😊 As I was watching you paint your tulips, I kept thinking it needs something else - and you found it! ❤😊
The hordes are clamoring at your door. Yours are most exciting painting videos on the internet, Gaynor. As usual, my heart was in my mouth and you always forge ahead with the most treacherous moves - chairs and tables, why not. I was especially happy that you resisted the call for green but who knows where it will be by next week! Thank you for sharing all of your marvelous experiments.
Hello Gaynor, 5000 ! That's only a beginning. Many thanks to you, I draw and use colors again ! So happy !! You are THE artist I had to "meet" for sure ! Your way to investigate should be teached to youngsters ; they would feel better. 😊. Sorry for my approx. english, I'm French...😏

Good Morning! It is raining in Minnesota today which is just delightful for this time of year. One of my favorite activities...watching you and enjoying my coffee...I adore the one orange tulip or even the three orange. It adds interest. The charcoal and paint marries perfectly. Another color that would be tremendous in this painting (just a bit) would be an eggplant or a touch of cadmium orange. Enjoy the day! Thank You! -Your friend across the pond❤

Hello Mara, thank you so much for your support X. I am sorry to read that you are having a hard time and I am sending every best wish to you and your family XX
That touch of blue is a great addition, but you should have used more complementary colors so as to make it a play of chroma between warm and cool colors. 👍😊
Wow! I am in awe at the progress and how the painting evolves. Every time I think I like it just fine, your brave changes make it wonderful in a different way. On another note, I love you salmon color sleeveless sweater, any chance you can share brand or store?
Hi Angie, thank you for your lovely comment. The Salmon sleeveless was a sweater from Uniqlo (last year) that sat unworn. I cut the front, cut off the sleeves and jointed them together to make a scarf and rejoined the front neck just a bit !!!! I liked it so much that I dug out four more unworn jumpers to give the chop XXXXX
@@gaynorpattle so cool that we get lifestyle tips, as well! BTW, I made the baba ghanoush with aubergines left overnight in my woodburner, my husband thought I was mad but was happy to make the it the next day and we had a delish lunch!
I think I may have been your 6th subscriber 🤷♀️😂 but I am happy to say I have had a great joy watching you grow. But I think I am channeling you 🤷♀️😂 last week I was painting my wedding photo in watercolor and painted purple tulips in the painting. Then watching your video last week you painted tulips 😂 this week I am filming a still life and doing roses and your doing still life 🤷♀️
I love these tulips….however you have me researching chairs, I typed in whimsical chairs…oh my goodness, I’m painting chairs this month and probably the next….
Oh my word… you are my favorite artist on the internet. I live for Thursday morning coffee and Gaynor. You are such a brave painter and never disappoint. But, I have to ask, where can I get that sweater pattern? I’m also a knitter and would love to get my hands that pattern! Keep rocking your beautiful self, your energy is as inspiring as your painting ✨
Hello Lisa 😊 What a wonderful comment to open !!! Thank you so much for watching and saying such nice things. I'm going through a 'scissor phase' at the moment.....I chopped five unworn jumpers....cut through the centre, cut off the sleeves (joined to make something scarf like) I rejoined the neck just a bit and felt very pleased with myself 😂 Have fun XX
Thank you! What a wonderful idea. They look fantastic! Your never ending creative style blows my mind. Your clothes, your house and property, and of course your amazing art! Thanks for responding ❤️
Thank you X I dug out five jumpers that I haven't been wearing and cut off the sleeves and cut down the centre.....rejoined just a bit at the neck !!! I joined the sleeves to make a bit of a matching neck warmer !
Morning Gaynor, blimey that was a journey with the tulips. It’s like being on a roller coaster, I see you about to do something and want to shout noooooo, don’t spoil it. Then you do and I think, phew, it’s ok😂 Can’t wait to see the sketchbook cover. Just wondering your thoughts on it now, and where you purchased it from? Have a lovely week. 💐
Hello Fiona, this makes me smile as I find I'm still not done with the tulips 😂 I found my Canson 180 on Amazon....so far, so good, the covers are playing nicely 🥰
@@gaynorpattle oh so the journey continues…….I’d better stay strapped in then 🤣 Sketchbook not cheap on there. Will be interesting to see how it behaves over time. 💐
Oh! And I found a journal called Stillman and Bern…180lb, 270gsm! It takes all media well, no bleed through as the pages are very thick, however it pills with too much watercolor, but perfect with acrylics and pastels and all the “stuff”…I purchased the A4 size. It is book bound, no spiral…😊
I love this gray and yellow piece! Definitely frame- able! Question: where do you get those lovely textured pieces of wallpaper? I have a couple of old wallpaper books, but none of them have enough texture to do this sort of thing.
Hello Diane, Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a lovely comment. I dig around in the DIY stores for wallpaper, other viewers have found wallpaper in charity stores and some have ordered samples online !!
Thank you for taking your time to respond! I really love your art style and am leaning so much from you! I live in San Diego CA so far from you. Have you considered doing an online class? Although actually you are teaching us so well through these wonderful videos! Thank you!
Hi there Gaynor. Could I possibly ask you what you’re drawing on please? It’s not butchers paper is it ? Thanks for the awesome inspirational videos. Love your looseness. 👏👏❤🎨
@@gaynorpattle thanks Gaynor no wonder you can do what you do to the paper. Butchers paper here in Australia. You cannot even put water on it. It’s only good for sketching. Have a lovely day. Thank you for your help. 👍👏🎨
Hello Barbara, I have been shopping my wardrobe and chopped and remodelled five jumpers !!!! Cut the sleeves, cut the centre and rejoin at the neck, stitch the sleeves together for a matching scarf !!!! I go through phases of reworking things ..... sometimes not for the best but I take the oldest thing and give it a go. Thank you for watching and I'm thrilled that you like my sweater XX
Hello Pat, When you paint on board, it is usual to put a coat of adhesive before gesso to seal it and make it non porous - it was an experiment on the cover just to see really....the gesso went down nicely 😊
I’m loving the tulip painting. May I be bold? My eye keeps getting drawn to the middle yellow tulip and it’s right hand side lined up exactly with the chair.
@@gaynorpattle I was so afraid you’d be offended. I was telling my husband about how you drew it up in charcoal and then almost rubbed it all away but that the original drawing was still there faintly in the background. But then I saw his eyes had glazed over the way mine do when he starts explaining transformers or car things to me 😊
@@gaynorpattle bless you. I hope you’re going to show us how you resolved it. This video in particular certainly opened my eyes about layers as I’ve been struggling with “making marks” which Louise Fletcher and others extoll. But I look at your white sleeves and wonder how on earth you keep so clean. Charcoal and oil pastels are the bane of my life, I end up looking as though I’ve been down the pits. Some other commenters have put it so elegantly how much we enjoy your videos and how inspirational they are. Your warmth shines out every time. Have a great weekend, see you next Thursday.
Hi Gaynor...I love the idea of you taking the remnants out of your fireplace to draw with. One thing you mentioned is that you enjoyed how chunky the pieces were. I thought of a product that I use that you might be interested in. Derwent has sets if XL charcoal blocks that comes in shades of grey, or a set of muted earth tones. There are 6 pieces to a tin. They also have XL graphite blocks that have grey, earth tones, blue and green. I like having the option of different colours or shades of grey to play with. If you enjoy creating in this manner, you might want to check these out. I would provide a link, but YT will probably delete the comment.
Hello Carol, Snowdon 300gsm. I take photographs at different stages and quite often start up a fresh painting to reach a different outcome - there are so many possibilities !!!! Have a great weekend X

Thanks for this beautiful piece. I love charcoal and didn’t know how to incorporate it in my drawings. I binge on your videos frequently ❤
Charcoal is wonderful stuff and I should do more. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a very kind comment XX
Congratulations to 5000 suscribers! You deserve it! And I bet there are many more to come. 👍🤗The last 4 weeks I went trough a very hard time with severe medical issues in the family. Your videos helped me alot to survive. Never give up !!! - like you are always showing with your paintings. No matter how things might look at the beginning, there is always a chance for someting beautiful to happen.Thank you, Gaynor! Best whishes from Mara ❤
Hello Mara, thank you so much for your support X. I am sorry to read that you are having a hard time and I am sending every best wish to you and your family XX
Hi, and thank you again. I think complimenting colors, so I would try a natural violet or purple or deep wine in stead of ochre 🤗
The ochre had to go !!!! XX
That touch of blue is a great addition, but you should have used more complementary colors so as to make it a play of chroma between warm and cool colors. 👍😊
I will have a play with that, thank you 🥰
Then watching your video last week you painted tulips 😂 this week I am filming a still life and doing roses and your doing still life 🤷♀️
Thank you so much for the great support, I am very grateful XX
Can you tell me what kind of paper please! Love this!!❤
I'm watching all your videos! You're super chipper, giddy like! 😍
Thanks so much 😊 The A1 paper is Snowdon 300 gsm XX
I love these tulips….however you have me researching chairs, I typed in whimsical chairs…oh my goodness, I’m painting chairs this month and probably the next….
Ahhh, that is so much fun XX
Where do you get your open front shirts? So cute!
Thank you X I dug out five jumpers that I haven't been wearing and cut off the sleeves and cut down the centre.....rejoined just a bit at the neck !!! I joined the sleeves to make a bit of a matching neck warmer !
Wow! Very creative!
Great find....I will take a look...thank you X
Understanding let it develop? But the rules of design and the principles of art get 2 the focus point that leads 2 understanding the story. Ann,
Hi Ann, A very good point XX
Thank you!
@@dianekhamilton ❤
Hi there Gaynor. Could I possibly ask you what you’re drawing on please? It’s not butchers paper is it ? Thanks for the awesome inspirational videos. Love your looseness. 👏👏❤🎨
Hello, Thank you for watching and this lovely comment. I use Snowdon Cartridge Paper 300 gsm. X
@@gaynorpattle thanks Gaynor no wonder you can do what you do to the paper. Butchers paper here in Australia. You cannot even put water on it. It’s only good for sketching. Have a lovely day. Thank you for your help. 👍👏🎨
Love your work❤
Also love your sweater vest. Can you share what the label is (I live in the US and maybe can't get it here). Thx
I love your sweaters too; There is no end to your talents! Gutted I can't buy some though!😂❤
Question: Why did you put adhesive down before the gesso on the sketchbook cover?
Hello Pat, When you paint on board, it is usual to put a coat of adhesive before gesso to seal it and make it non porous - it was an experiment on the cover just to see really....the gesso went down nicely 😊
@@gaynorpattle Thank you, I ddin't know that!
I’m loving the tulip painting. May I be bold? My eye keeps getting drawn to the middle yellow tulip and it’s right hand side lined up exactly with the chair.
ITS GONE !!!! We are in tune....a little pruning was necessary ! Have a wonderful week Dee XX
@@gaynorpattle I was so afraid you’d be offended. I was telling my husband about how you drew it up in charcoal and then almost rubbed it all away but that the original drawing was still there faintly in the background. But then I saw his eyes had glazed over the way mine do when he starts explaining transformers or car things to me 😊
@@guitardee1 ALWAYS open to advice, especially from new arty friends XX
@@gaynorpattle bless you. I hope you’re going to show us how you resolved it. This video in particular certainly opened my eyes about layers as I’ve been struggling with “making marks” which Louise Fletcher and others extoll. But I look at your white sleeves and wonder how on earth you keep so clean. Charcoal and oil pastels are the bane of my life, I end up looking as though I’ve been down the pits.
Some other commenters have put it so elegantly how much we enjoy your videos and how inspirational they are. Your warmth shines out every time. Have a great weekend, see you next Thursday.
@@guitardee1 🤣❤🧡💛
Hello Lori, WOW, thank you so much, yes I will google immediately !!!! How exciting 🥰 Have a great weekend XX
What kind of paper did you use?
Hello Carol, Snowdon 300gsm. I take photographs at different stages and quite often start up a fresh painting to reach a different outcome - there are so many possibilities !!!! Have a great weekend X
Is that charcoal from your log burner??
Hi Dulcie, I have quite a heap of it.....I select the nicest lumps, then forget to use it !!!!! My pen should arrive on Saturday XX
Hello Gaynor, i found it utterly fascinating how the tulip painting evolved,it just goes to show how things can change so quickly.
Ive been meaning to say for a while ...have you heard of an artist called Joan Eardly?Ive got a feeling you would like her work, maybe ude like to check this amazing artist out...just a thought. Keep up the brilliant woek Gaynor i think yr great.❤❤❤
Hello Andrea, yes I am a big fan of Joan Eardley - amazing paintings and her landscapes are so inspiring. Have a great week too 🥰
Ah…..just watched you say it is!!!😂 2:44
Congrats on the 5000, I’m in the beginning of my YT journey so hopefully one day I’ll be saying the same!
Thank you and yes you will !! X
Love where you're going with this piece, but if I can be soooo bold, please put the orange back! You're brave to listen to others comments.
I hear you :) I'll have a little dabble tomorrow XX
Good morning.
Hello Catherine 😊
You really take us on a journey with your paintings and I think that what I enjoy the most is not knowing where things are going to go yet they always end up being amazing! 🫶👌
You are so so kind, thank for a wonderful message X
