Hello Gaynor. Found your channel a few weeks ago just before we went to North Yorkshire for my 73rd birthday. My wife fell just before we went, so spent a bit more time in the lodge than normal, so I started to view your older videos. I saw more of you than my wife 😀 I hope you don't mind but I've been copying some of your paintings as inspiration, as I've limited creative talent. This has been a game changer for me as when I used to go through the "ugly" phase I often gave up. But now, I know not to get too precious with parts of the painting and if I'm not happy with it, just slosh more colour on and see where it finishes up. Even though I copied yours, they finished up totally different. I'm making progress. So, thanks for the inspiration.
Happy Birthday Keith, thank you for a great message and I hope your wife has a speedy recovery. I am delighted to read about your progress....you've made my day 🥰
Gaynor, I absolutely LOVE Green Chair. I love everything about it. The composition, your color choices, the ‘wallpaper’ and the black floor. I think it has to be one of favorites of yours to date. You made an incredibly beautiful painting! Thank you for sharing it! M xx
ENJOY yourself and PLAY! You are worried about what WE will think, and I personally LOVE it when you show what DID NOT WORK, then you keep pressing on and MAKE something beautiful!🎨🖌️It is so NICE to see another artist having FUN and enjoying the process! Just be😊 YOURSELF and keep sharing!! 😊
I kept waiting for you to use the letter stamps on your sketchbook cover... they're lovely. Hope you incorporate them in future artwork. Really love the way you use wallpaper! Looks great on the chair painting!
Hi Gaynor, Love this week's video. Your finished sketchbook cover reminds me of paintings done by one of our iconic Australian artists, John Olsen. He depicts Australian landscapes from an aerial perspective. He uses lots of colour splashes and line and represents a very abstract view similar to your cover. I love your inspirational process.
I look forward to joining you on Thursdays! That aubergine and sky blue happen to be one of my new favorite color combos...oh wow, "the chair" framed is FANTASTIC!!! So inspiring!!! For the tulip painting I see something simple sitting on that white plate; a pretty little spoon, half of an orange or apple, a tea bag...it gives me the feeling of the closing of a lovely get together where the energy is still buzzing but everyone has left and you're just for a moment, enjoying the sudden quiet and lovely bouquet on your table before tidying up. Always a pleasure, Gaynor! -your friend across the pond, Sam
What fun seeing your sketchbook covers develop; and the fun experimenting! And, Rocket - what a lil fluffy-buddy, he is adorable, loved seeing him. Really like your tulip painting, and seeing it come along. Wanted to mention that using a gel plate as a pallet is so handy; and when you are done using it, you can let dry (10 min); brayer a thin layer of white over the top; put your paper down & rub it; place a heavy book on top and let sit 15 min, and you'll have a great abstract print (bet the letter stamps would have appeared too) and it cleans the plate too. Always love your work; Thursday is one of my favorite days!
Hello lovely Kathy, I love your thinking with plate....the stamps might find their way back on the kitchen table !!! Thank you for a wonderful comment. Have a great week XX
Hi Gaynor, you have taught me how to be more free and experimental in art. I was always so afraid of making mistakes...not now! Love your chair with wallpaper print...fab idea. Last but not least...Rocket is a super star for sure...what a handsome boy! Please show him as often as you can...he's adorable! Ness x
Hi Gaynor. Interesting experimental mark making with the wire! The early stages of sketchbook painting reminded me of Joan Miro the Spanish painter who combined abstraction with Surrealist fantasy. Love the framed chair piece on the wall! Exquisite! Love the tulips painting. Can't wait to see that framed!! Have a fantastic creative week!!
Haha the aubergine!! ...a few weeks ago when you did the chair painting I took some inspiration from you ...I wanted to mix a brown and played with the paints for a while ....I got the most beautiful shade of aubergine for the chair lol ...I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome ...thanks for your inspiration gaynor just love this channel ...❤
The sandwich analogy was so good - I’m such a ‘rusher’ - always wanting to jump to the end without going through the middle. Finding a way to enjoy the process is a really good challenge - thank you for that!
Hi Gaynor just want to thank you for being so genuine and kind. You share all your techniques and art with such grace. I am so inspired by your art and your style. Can’t wait for your next video. This is Laurie from Palm Desert, CA.
Hi Gaynor, love that your videos have so much of your process in them, this is why i keep coming back each week with eager anticipation and you never disappoint. I really liked your green chair but once in the frame that white border really made it pop. Loved the little glimpse of what you did with the brown paint also. Have a great week. Looking forward to next time.
I am just where you are, with my newly made concertina sketch book waiting for the cover(s) to be painted. Went to my Artist’s Association Meeting today and took my green chair painting. It was WELL RECEIVED ! Many thanks to you! I told everyone your name and how you spurred me on with your chairs/interiors. Hope you get some more viewers. Many either wrote down your name or went right on their phones‼️ Have a lovely week!
❤ sketchbook cover anxiety, for sure. Another treasure of gem paintings Gaynor. I hope your buyers understand how valuable your works are becoming. 💖 Such a great community, I learn from the comments as well. You always surprise me in your process. I take notes and then wonder oh what's she doing next? It's thrilling really for another artist. Thanks God again for you! 🙏🏼
Hello Gaynor, Sketchbook Anxiety is a thing, but not just the cover for some of us🤦🏻♀️😏😂 Loved your total abandonment to the process as usual. Your enjoyment of it was obvious. Have a lovely week. 💐

Rocket is so gorgeous! love him fluffy and not so fluffy 😍 My sketchbook covers never look how I think they might, great fun though. Green chair and tulips look amazing with frame/mount on. Your videos are the highlight of my week Gaynor, thank you xx❤
Hello lovely Gaynor, what have I been doing I've missed a few videos, it's such a joy as always to see you. The chair painting looks amazing and the tulips also. I was happiest with the Joan Miro style of sketch book cover art. Love the framed chair picture and the tulips are coming along nicely. I think you should keep the aubergine sweat shirt, good color on you.
The green chair framed looks amazing!!!!! Love the tulips too. And the sketchbook cover! Smoochies for the very handsome Rocket, I absolutely love him!!! ☺️💖🤗💖
Really enjoyed this video Gaynor, although I was rather sad when you covered up the brighter colours, but that's probably because I gravitate towards bright, perhaps the influence of living in South Africa. As to all the other comments before me, I agree wholeheartedly with them all, Thursdays just would't be the same without you and your amazing inspiration for us all. thank you.
@@gaynorpattle my husbands favourite colours are burgundy, navy and dark green. Plus black. I like spring colours. Hope to see it next week. Love the tulips
Love the chair in the frame, very successful. The tulips are too - love the grey tones, and also the blue area. I learn such a lot from your videos - watching you create patterned areas and wondering what the heck you'll do with that - and then you incorporate it into a lovely result. Don't put your sweatshirt back in the Oxfam bag, it's great and suits you. I'm going to try mixing aubergine now...... love mixing paints, feels like alchemy! And last comment - thanks for the segment on sketchbook covers. I recognise that anxiety, not only about the covers. It's "results anxiety"..... having to know I'm going to have a good result. I loved the way you got right into it, and kept playing. So encouraging. Have a great week.
Good Morning Gaynor, The chair picture came out lovely! Really love the wall paper wasn"t quite sure how that was going to go. I have my sketch book cover done with 2 layers of gesso, going to give that a go.
Hi Gaynor Thursdays can never come round fast enough.I love all you do. Its so good you are open to comments of suggestions. Some one commented how you stay so clean, its always amazed me too, i get in such a mess....lol.Roll on nxt Thursday.❤❤❤
Couldn’t wait for Thursday and a new video ❤️ The framed green chair looks fab in the black frame!! What size is the frame? The tulips painting is going to be just as gorgeous! Both had many workings and layers before the final finish which, as with all your work, adds such depth and interest. I was shocked when you went for the brown-because you had it-I would have scraped it and tried again, but you are so OPEN to whatever happens and wow it’s wonderful. Now I have to wait until next Thursday to see the tulips framed…I’m as impatient as you are painting over wet paint!
Hi Gaynor, first of all I love Rocket shd have more of him. Have u painted him? Love watching your process and seeing the highs and lows gives me encouragement. Fabulous paintings and great fun to watch. Thank you
Another really good video, I have taken your suggestions and transformed my sketchbook covers to be more interesting than the plain black covers. I love the aubergine sweatshirt you are wearing, great color, and even though you got off track with mixing it up, you still persevered and I love that! Love Pilot pens and have several types and nibs, did not think of using them for mark-making, but I will. Thanks again, have a great week!
Hello Sandra, I feel blessed to have such lovely viewers and your comment spurs me on - I have been using the pilot on card work - it's a keeper !!! Have a fab week XX
And another one gets the frame! I love the tulips now - did you crop it? Frame it up quick. And, the book cover went from pigs ear to silk purse like wrangling a herd of architects into a pup tent. Quelle determination, Gaynor and you won - it's so interesting.

Hi Gaynor, So inspired by your fearless approach to your painting. Have just recently discovered your channel and am binge-watching instead of painting!
Hello and Welcome John, Lovely to hear from new viewers but please don't stop painting !!! Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a very kind comment X
How do you keep everything so pristine whilst you’re working in the kitchen?! I’d be dropping stuff everywhere there wasn’t white paper down 😂. Another fab week. Thanks for sharing
I think your sketchbook covers turned out great! I often have a messy middle stage that I can't get past but you have shown that if we just persevere things come together in the end. I am a fan of brown! I think brown works well with turquoise and a bright orange! I have questions for you Gaynor (if you don't mind?) What is your main substrate of choice at the moment. Is it canvas, paper, board or something else? When you paint with acrylic on paper, do you use a top coat medium if you are displaying under glass? I hope that you have a lovely week ahead full of arty inspiration! X
Hi Simone, the answer is everything and anything I can lay my hands on 😂 Sometimes I use a topcoat but the glass seems to enhance the painting without. Have a great week too 🥰
To paraphrase, when life gives you brown aubergines, make brown aubergine babaganouch, if that is how you spell it. I had to laugh, because I have a painting that the tutor of a class told me was finished, and I thought well I will finish it later (I should have stood up for myself). The colour I needed? Aubergine. Have I been able to make it since? No! 😂 The picture lies in a cupboard, but I will put it up in its current state on my Instagram. I have a feeling that the tutor may have been right and that is why I couldn’t mix the colour I had envisioned. Thanks for posting your colour mixing explorings though. I felt much better. How many times have I ended up turning pink into battleship grey, or green into blocked drain sludge. 😀
Had a great time decorating two sketchbooks, they turned out so differently! But pleased with both. Thanks for the encouragement to let go and get on. I’m starting a new concertina. Be interested to know if people have a ‘theme’ so it is a cohesive story or do they just add to it when they feel like it ? Love the chair.
Hi, new subbie here. Love your chanel, with great inspiration for my two chanels. I actually made a sketchbook cover in todays recording, just before finding your chanel.👍🏻😄📘🖌️
Hi Gaynor! Love your channel that I recently discovered and love the transitions in your video, are you edit your video by yourself? And if yes, what software do you use? Thank you for your warm videos/Lotta
Hi Gaynor, I couple of questions, if that’s ok ? Will you be doing the 💯day challenge this year ? Have you done Nicolas Wilton’s Creative Visionary course ? 🙂
Hello and no I probably won't be doing the 100 day challenge this year and YES to Nicolas Wilton's amazing course ! A few years ago now....he has great podcasts and a TH-cam channel if you are interested.
Hi Gaynor, loved this one as always some lovely inspiration! I always paint or collage my sketchbook covers it's such a joy. One question, I'm coming to Tumbridge Wells for the weekend is your work currently in any of the galleries? Thanks Ruth x

this is fantastic such a fantastic design ☺☺☺
Thank you Chantelle XX
How do you keep everything so pristine whilst you’re working in the kitchen?! I’d be dropping stuff everywhere there wasn’t white paper down 😂. Another fab week. Thanks for sharing
I don't know 😂 But long may it last XX
@@gaynorpattle if you could wave your magic wand in this direction please 🤣
Have a great week too 🥰
@@gaynorpattle I thought as much! 😄
Hi Judy, The joy of mixing paint 😂 I will look out for your post 🥰
Lovely ❤
Thank you Cindy X
Chair is awsome xoxox
THANK YOU X
Had a great time decorating two sketchbooks, they turned out so differently! But pleased with both. Thanks for the encouragement to let go and get on.
I’m starting a new concertina. Be interested to know if people have a ‘theme’ so it is a cohesive story or do they just add to it when they feel like it ?
Love the chair.
So pleased you decorated TWO sketchbooks....why not have two concertinas....one for a theme and one for anything goes !!!! Have a fantastic week XX
Hi, new subbie here. Love your chanel, with great inspiration for my two chanels. I actually made a sketchbook cover in todays recording, just before finding your chanel.👍🏻😄📘🖌️
Thanks for subbing! XX
Hi Gaynor! Love your channel that I recently discovered and love the transitions in your video, are you edit your video by yourself? And if yes, what software do you use? Thank you for your warm videos/Lotta
Hello and Welcome, thank you for watching and yes I edit the videos with iMovie - it drove me bonkers to begin with but I'm glad I persevered !! XX
Hi Gaynor,
I couple of questions, if that’s ok ?

Hi Gaynor, loved this one as always some lovely inspiration! I always paint or collage my sketchbook covers it's such a joy. One question, I'm coming to Tumbridge Wells for the weekend is your work currently in any of the galleries? Thanks Ruth x
Hi Ruth, I hope you have a great time, my next exhibition is on the Mother's Day weekend, 9th & 10th March on the Lower Pantiles. X

When you were mixing that paint, I kept saying, Try blue!
😢plz... no more finger painting? Red is scarry? Paint is made for long-term existence on substrates. .. not skin, even short-term. Ann,
Hi Ann, I will put gloves in my apron 🥰
Please do use the gloves. The cadmium’s are dangerous!
