Doy Ott had a sweet voice, one of the greatest baritones in southern gospel music

JD and Big Chief together one one stage. That's pretty cool since they both also worked with the king of Rock n Roll

@@anton503 Chief didn’t work with Elvis. The most they collaborated was at the 54 and 55 (I believe) NQC. No conventions after that, as Colonel Parker didn’t allow Elvis to sing, only bow on stage.

Hovie always commented that he "wasn't a singer" sometimes getting an "amen" from Big Chief, but this song proves that Hovie, was, in fact a great singer.

Awesome video. They are using their recorded version of "He's got the whole world." Note the people in the audience. The Statesman were pioneers in music videos. Such a blessing to be able to see and hear these classics on TH-cam.

Hovie, Doy, and the Big Chief, the core, with Rozie Rozell/Roy McNeil or
Denver Crumpler/Jake Hess, the classic Statesmen lineups.

That was included as part of the plot. This movie was an interesting attempt at bringing Southern Gospel to the masses. Essentially, the boy didn’t want to go to the big singing at the family’s church and he is slowly convinced as they pan back and forth between the home and church. The majority of it is music and the storyline is barely there
