I’ve hit the Pros and wasn’t a huge fan. I’m looking to change out of my old AP2s into something a little better for my slower swing these days. Getting older does not help with speed. Lol. Really like the UHX Cleveland irons which surprised me, but need to test more once things open back up
With the constant loft creep we are seeing in irons across the board now I kind of wonder at what point it makes more sense for the consumer to start wanting lofts displayed on the club instead of an increasingly arbitrary iron number.
I play the Rogue irons, then I hit the Mavrik and the Max irons (A-wedge )hit both about 145/155 easy. Now I have the Mavrik AW-PW-9-8-7-and the 6-5-4 in the max for launch. But I still have my Rouges and my set of M2’s //Got the Mavrik Max driver 3&5woods-Powerful/ the New Epic driver 3&5 woods and the m5 driver 3&5 woods. Great video
I didn’t watch a single video when I went in for my fitting this year, I came out with the mavrik pros on the end of some Oban shafts. I’ve never been this happy with golf clubs in my hands haha.
I’ve always bought as a set and paid a price both ways! Now that I am older and wiser I would DEFINITELY blend a set to truly improve my game! Thanks Mark always great content!🙏
I haven’t hit the other two models, but the Mavrik Pro is a good looking and nice feeling/sounding iron. I expected it to be much louder and clunky feeling, but I could easily game it based on looks, feel, and performance. These are also some of the less expensive new irons sets from the big brands in Australia right now, quite surprisingly. It’s only the limited shaft selection for these irons down here (all lightweight shaft options) that may keep some people from buying them. I think they are one of the better releases from Callaway recently, right up there with the new Apex/Apex Pro.
I play standed mavrick 5-AW and although the spin is low I'm still getting them to stop dead on the greens.. First game out I hit the green with my 5iron from 192y out and the ball rolled about a putters length. So still loads of stopping power.
High handicapper here - Got fitted for some new irons a few months ago and tried the Mavriks out (Max and standard). Hit the Mavrik's well and the numbers were really good, but I just really didn't like the feel at all. Everything felt thin off the face? It was really strange! Also found them a bit chunky behind the ball and didn't like the looks. Ended up going for some T200 irons in the end. Really pleased with them, just need a course to play on!
I wish I had seen this review before I bought my set of standard iron, no blending. I'm a senior, high handicap golfer. I went from Adams Golf Idea Irons with steel stiff shafts to the Mavrik standard irons with graphite senior shafts because my swing speed had decreased quite a bit. I can honestly say I hit my Adams irons better. I may have done better with Max, but I'll just have to make due and keep plugging along.
Hi Mark, I have the standard, with custom specs, including 2* weaker lofts. Weakening has give me a better trajectory and still is a powerful iron. Effortless ball flight and nice angles in to the greens. Thanks for your through reviews...as always!
Can you please comment about what happens to the bounce when the loft is weakened on the club ...I assume the bounce should increase ? Would it actually matter ?
Excellent review. Excellent advice. New/Beginner to golf and taking lessons with my 20+ years Irons and, yes, my One Wood (lol). I had initially anticipated I'd get a 'whole set', as you mentioned Mark but club-by-club fitting seems more optimal. I really like that. Great stuff, mate. Dan
I just test drove the Mavrik (std) this morning and very much like the over all feel of the club with the super lite steel shafts. I will put to use Mark's idea about blending a set and getting "fit" for each club segment is something I definitely will look into. It makes sense. Thanks Mark.
I bought the Mavrik Max 4 iron first to try the set out, and damn I freaking love the club. I am building a new set myself one club at a time. Just ordered the 7 iron Mavrik Max 2 days ago. Even out of deep rough I am hitting the 4 iron really well. Have gotten a few good rolls onto the green from far out with the 4 iron too. Love it, did take a couple rounds to get used to the bigger back of the iron
I watched you guys hit the epic forged irons as well as anything ive seen you hit and freak out about the price and loft and now give a real open-minded review about these which are a cheaper version of same (better?). Thanks - this is the kind of content I worried we wouldnt see from you anymore as you seemed a little burnt out there for a few months. Glad to have you back!
I had a hit of these and they were really nice to hit, great feel. Except the really strong, 43 degree wedge in the Pro's makes wedge fitting a problem, need to buy 4 wedges to extra.
Comprehensive review as always. I agree fitting throughout the set majes a lot of sense but in practical terms there aren't going to be many places that could offer this. And can you imagine how long it could take! You could be there for days...
I used to be obsessed with callaway but now. I believe Taylormade is king. If I had to choose. I would go for the pro. I would set it up to go the furthest and be the most accurate that I can get from a iron. Great job Mark, long live the golf guru.
You nailed that tiger! TaylorMade has taken over the game they don't just move the needle nowadays they are the needle because everything they're putting out is as good as it gets their social media game is on top of the world and my God look at their tour pro staff compared to Callaway I don't even think counting the majors would be a comparison with tiger rory Jason day Dustin Johnson Sergio Garcia Collin morikawa on & on versus Callaway which may have one or two majors total between their whole staff which consists of John Rahm ( former taylor-made staffer who basically sitting the bench @ tm) and a bunch of average plyrs like kisner...

A friend recently purchased the Mav standard and I immediately noticed how much lower his ball flight is compared to his old Pings. He seems to like the Mavs so far, but I'll be interested to see if he can hold greens over the course of the year.
Great stuff.. My worry is they've got some decent irons hiding in there but when Mavrik disappears as a name completely, these will be gone. Much prefer the longevity of the Apex vs these 👍
I bought the standard as I got, what I think, is a decent price. They were also replacing a 2013 x hot set so was keen to stick with Callaway. 5-AW set fitted for about 530. They got delivered a couple of weeks into the lockdown, can't wait to get out and play with them.
Just ordered a fitted set of irons, was never advised could mix and match though and never hit any higher irons on my fitting. Just playing the waiting game for delivery now :)
Thanks for this and reminding us about blending these sets. As soon as our lockdown lifts, I am going for an iron fitting and I will give the Mavericks a look. Since my longest iron is a 6, I will consider using the MAX's for my 6 and 7 and then going to the Pro for the 8 - PW.
Mark, I am a 10 handicap and currently play the Rogue (standard) Irons with a 7-iron loft of 30 degrees. I was so disappointed to see that Callaway lowered the loft in the Standard Mavrik irons from 30 degrees to 27 degrees, but kept the Mavrik Max at 30 degrees. This didn't make sense to me and my disappointment in Callaway doing this kept me from upgrading to the Mavrik irons. I don't really need the extra distance out of my 7-iron but I would be disappointed with the reduced backspin from the lower-lofted Mavrik 7-iron.
Doing that myself right now. I am enjoying building the set the way I want it. Couple Mack Daddy Wedges and a couple Mavrik Max irons so far, cant wait til I'm finished
Got these just before lockdown. Went with the intention of getting mizunos, but just hit these so well. Only been to the range though, not been on the course 😭
Funny story. My wife and kids just bought me the rogue x. I wanted the sims2 instead. So I went to exchange the Rogues but the sims were back ordered. So I went inside the swing center and tested out the mavrik Max being the only club they had in stock. I also tested sim2 as well. So glad they didn’t have sim2 in stock, because I was in love with the mavriks!!! I bought them and I am extremely happy with them. I hit 10 shots, and 6 was off center of the sweet spot, but the ball went straight Everytime! I would def recommend mavriks. Btw, I also tested the rogue x, Mavrik was way better and forgiving.
I got the maverick pro’s 4-pw, nippon tour120 shafts about 2 weeks before lockdown. Not had too much time with them but seem great although I wish I had considered stepping at my fitting just to see the 4 and 5 iron maybe
Ive tested the mavrik standard as a massive callaway fan then i got my latest irons but i didn't like them prefer apex range. I have high launch and low spin so these would cause me issues.
Interesting, Mark, thanks. I play Callaway X-Hot Pros, about 7yrs old and I fancy a change once this nonsense ends. Will certainly take a look at the Mavrik pro and, given what you said about the squat length, the standard model as well. I'm a player who needs helping irons but doesn't get on with chunky top lines and long blades - confidence building? not for me, all I see is sonething heavy and unwieldy even if the club is no heavier. My ideal club is a bit like me - short, squat and a bit thin on top!
I recently went from “Game improvement irons” to blades recently. I think you mentioned this before. My ping G25 irons seem to peak height earlier in the ball flight. They also seem to hangout longer at peak height. My callaway razor X MB. The peak height later in the flight. I am having to adjust with that. By the way. That would be a great blade test. The razor x MB remind me of the Srixon blades. As in a good looking but but plenty of blade length.
Nice vid tonight Mark love your thoughts on what we should expect and demand when it comes to fitting... Like the new mavrik range looking maybe at a 3 wood in the future when the world settles down again
I've got the full set mavrik max driver /5wood,4 hybrid 5 - pw standard irons... Fully fitted recently.. only gamed a few times due to the present situation but dropped 4 shots off my average so can't complain.... Keep up the good work 👍
MyberTube I think last years apex pros are some of the best looking players cavity I’ve ever see. I’m torn between those, mizuno mmc, and titleist t100
I would definitely think about a mixed set ,but I was wondering if Callaway is coming out with a apex for this year. Good video Mark. Brilliant interview with the TXG guys.
Mark, I have to say that the clubs are nice, are they any better than anything else in that premium range? No. I believe it comes down to brand loyalty for anyone who is looking to buy new irons! Keep up the good work squire 👏
Interesting choice with the mavrik being stronger lofted than the max, seems the max and pro would blend lovely, if you wanted to blend all 3 you might have a strange combination going from slim to chunkiest to middle as move up the bag as opposed to getting chunkier as you move through the bag. Also blending the Mavrik to the max would be interesting, might have to skip an iron sequentially
I'd play a entirely new bag every year if I had it my way. I like shiny new things. But until the lotto win comes in I'm not able to. Bought my Apex Pros and a Epic Flash last year. First new clubs ever.
Thanks for an old fashion club review. Makes it seem like a normal day 😃 Golf courses in Ontario were told they can start getting ready for the golf season now. Baby steps.
I played the X-16s for 14 or 15 years until last August and moved to the Rogues. Lovely clubs, I wonder if Callaway irons will still look pretty much the same in another 14 or 15 years. Do you know why the Mavrik irons are so out of step with the other two in terms of lofts? Seems a strange decision in these days where blending is becoming more common.
I just bought rogue’s cos I didn’t like the lofts of the mavrik & they were much much cheaper. I don’t want such a strong 7 & don’t get how the max is more lofted than the mavrik.
Great review. I had clubs stolen a week before isolation. Went to a major uk shop to look at new clubs and tried a few. The pro came up the best in distance and consistency.I am never sure if the shop is pushing new gear I any way on there monitors? Was going to go and try again and all shops shut. But I am looking forward to trying them again once stores open.
Mark, interesting question for the design guys, why does the top line have to change as the clubs get more “friendly” ? With trying to get the CG lower and further back for launch, I’d have thought a thinner top line would be advantageous to this end ? Can you ask the designers/ engineers?
Your videos are great Mark. But I have to say, I'm preferring the podcasts more. Please don't discontinue them when the British lockdown has stopped, it would be a pity. Cheers 👍
Mavrik pro for me (no pro will ever use them though) . Are you going to review the fairway woods? Interesting to see they’ve not made them adjustable this time round.
I've got 3 rounds on my new standard Mavrik irons, ball feels nice off the club face distance & forgiveness is great. I've played hybrids for as long as I can remember, I don't have any now, long irons are easy to hit I won closest to the pin on A 194yd par 3 with the 4 iron!! I've never even owned a 4 iron before, so at 58 with a slower swing speed these make me feel young again gone from hitting 7 iron 135 to 9 iron, ya I don't care about the loft LOL
I typically shoot in the very low 90's but I can get to the mid 80's along with the upper 90's. I usually dont play the same course very often, this is some of the reason for the wide range in scores. Anyway, I am looking toove from my Diablo Apex to the Mavrik. With my scores, what should I focus on for new Mavrik clubs?
Hi Mark great video got me thinking about comboing . I play Cleveland CBX love them but struggle with the 6 iron would it make sense to go HB Turbo in the 6 iron then go 22 rinks. Could that be the way forward. Thanks. Mark.
Quite interesting, however I’ve never quite managed to make my eye like a Callaway iron - personal preference will always be the first thing for me when every brand does the same collection of options
Guy Legg I think the Apex line is pretty sharp looking, including the Apex Pros. Every other iron line like Epic and Rogue and now Mavrik are eye sores.

Hi Mark just wondering I'm a high handicapper a novice really and I'm thinking of a fitting for a brand new set of irons would this benefit me seeming so I don't really have much control over clubs
Pro would be the Go, Bro. They would blend well on looks. Don't understand why the standard is way stronger than the Pro & Max. Would have thought the Max would have been given the name and our golfing egos of 'Max' distance. What's Coaches unbiased opinion?
What one would you test from the 3?
probably the pro, closest to my current set of mizuno MP-18MMC irons

Mark, I am a 10 handicap and currently play the Rogue (standard) Irons with a 7-iron loft of 30 degrees. I was so disappointed to see that Callaway lowered the loft in the Standard Mavrik irons from 30 degrees to 27 degrees, but kept the Mavrik Max at 30 degrees. Do you know why the Mavrik irons are so out of step with the other two in terms of lofts? Seems a strange decision in these days where blending is becoming more common.
Another great review as always! Mavrik 'standard' as Mark calls it has virtually the same stronger lofts that the Callaway Rogue X irons do.
Wouldn't it be a good idea if manufacturers stamped the loft as well as the number on each club, this would help with blending IMO.
I just bought rogue’s cos I didn’t like the lofts of the mavrik & they were much much cheaper. I don’t want such a strong 7 & don’t get how the max is more lofted than the mavrik.
I'd test the pro but would like to add loft to the full set
Great review. I had clubs stolen a week before isolation. Went to a major uk shop to look at new clubs and tried a few. The pro came up the best in distance and consistency.I am never sure if the shop is pushing new gear I any way on there monitors? Was going to go and try again and all shops shut. But I am looking forward to trying them again once stores open.
Damn bro, how did they get stolen? From your garage or something
Cheers 👍
Excellent vid, thanks. Any chance of doing the same with the Ping range?
I don't understand why brands name Irons and drivers on the same name cycle. Makes you feel like Irons are out of date every year.
Think you answered your own question there ;)
Thats exactly what they want you to feel haha
Awesome golf club review Mark. The callaway maverick irons seem to go a really long distance. Cheers!
Agree! I have the mavrik max 4 iron and I love hitting it off the tee or from the fairway, seem to get it to go pretty far (for my height)
Mavrik pro for me (no pro will ever use them though) . Are you going to review the fairway woods? Interesting to see they’ve not made them adjustable this time round.
I wait for the mavrik pro’s to be delivered
Another great review again mark👍
Hi Mark, what is the screen setup you have in the garden...looks like the ideal space saver for me!
Ta!
Hey Jerry, what shafts are you using?
Great review! Off topic. But how is your screen set up that the ball is silent when you hit the screen?
I typically shoot in the very low 90's but I can get to the mid 80's along with the upper 90's. I usually dont play the same course very often, this is some of the reason for the wide range in scores. Anyway, I am looking toove from my Diablo Apex to the Mavrik. With my scores, what should I focus on for new Mavrik clubs?
Hi Mark great video got me thinking about comboing . I play Cleveland CBX love them but struggle with the 6 iron would it make sense to go HB Turbo in the 6 iron then go 22 rinks. Could that be the way forward. Thanks. Mark.
Love to try some, maybe soon!
these lofts are crazy strong, even in the pro ! I play the apex 16, but still struggle to get enough spin..any recommendations ?
Quite interesting, however I’ve never quite managed to make my eye like a Callaway iron - personal preference will always be the first thing for me when every brand does the same collection of options
Guy Legg I think the Apex line is pretty sharp looking, including the Apex Pros. Every other iron line like Epic and Rogue and now Mavrik are eye sores.
What's weird is the standard Mavrik have significantly stronger lofts than the Max irons... not sure why Callaway did it that way?
Mavrik Pro or Apex Pro Mark, totally understand one should get fit, but your opinion given there is about £240 price difference.
Hi Mark, which blend do you recommend, I like getting 10 yards extra from 7 iron but pw and 9 are same as standard lofts .
Rogue x or maverick max? Also is it worth upgrading from rogue x
Hi Mark just wondering I'm a high handicapper a novice really and I'm thinking of a fitting for a brand new set of irons would this benefit me seeming so I don't really have much control over clubs
Hi, just came across your video. Can any of those be adjusted? Like change their lie angle? Or their specs are fixed out of the box?
From the top shot of all 3 I'd prefer the pro if I can game them
Very useful review, thx!
I'm a 28 handicap and looking for a new set of irons
Can you do a review on the Tommy Armour 845’s? Not the fancy ones. I have a set. Paid $399 for them. I really like them.
Pro would be the Go, Bro. They would blend well on looks. Don't understand why the standard is way stronger than the Pro & Max. Would have thought the Max would have been given the name and our golfing egos of 'Max' distance. What's Coaches unbiased opinion?
Spot on this chap
Nice Ricky 330 in the back ground
Would you have an opportunity to look/review the Apex model?
