I grew up with Friendlys, being in the town over from where it was created. It as fallen hard overtime. Only the Ice cream is worth going for and that was sold off to Deans years ago.

Thanks for doing a review of Friendly’s. It was a part of my wife’s childhood and we still go at least once a year when visiting her family in the Northeast. I don’t understand why some don’t like it. It’s solid reasonably priced tasty food. The kid’s meals include a sundae which my kids love.
Your comments were spot on. Friendly’s decor and ambience also seem stuck in the 80’s.
I do hope it survives as we always enjoyed it.

Friendly's was mostly a chain restaurant that targeted kids. It was mostly known for its ice cream. Very sad to see this brand die out because that was my go to spot after playing basketball at the YMCA.

As a kid back in the 90s loved the chicken tenders and fries with honey mustard. Mozzarella sticks for appetizer. Of course original vanilla hot fudge sundae in the metal dish.

I remember when I worked in Bloomfield NJ temporarily well over a decade ago, there was a Friendly’s in front on the bus stop. I’d get a Jim Daddy sundae, sit in the back of the bus and eat it going back to NYC. Never bought any food there though.

Ate there plenty of times as a kid along with Hometown Buffet in MA. It’s sad to see the latter close and that there’s barely Friendlys locations like there used to be. Last time I had Friendlys was last year visiting Peabody. The one at Boston Logan I liked too.
Anyway I always liked the hot dogs from there best and the ice cream.
difference between a Maine Lobster Roll and the Conneticut is Conneticut is served Warm with Butter and Maine is mixed with Mayo like a Potato Salad and served Cold, personally i feel i'd prefer Maine style.
We got one down the street here in Pa. Used to be reasonable and good . Now its so pricey for what u get. Its really known for Ice Cream desserts.
That honey BBQ cheddar melt is legit the best thing on the menu 🔥 I substitute buffalo sauce and blue cheese on it instead and it’s so damn good. Gotta get the caramel brownie sundae but substitute black raspberry ice cream on it! Jersey friendlys are also the best compared to other states

The honey bbq chicken melt was so popular that the old restaurant I worked in college started making it too because a lot of the workers that worked there were from Friendly's nearby that closed.

Lobster's gotta be good to shell out for it at the prices they sell it these days. Sad but not unexpected they couldn't deliver.
I used to enjoy Friendly's til the mid 2010s...then for some reason their prices went WAY up (even before fast food was going up), shit I liked vanished from the menu and the portions got smaller. I still have a lot of nostalgia for them and their Friend-Zs (back in the day they used to call those Cyclones, hah!) but I couldn't go to one now even if I wanted to because the one near my house closed down and left a sad, empty shell behind.
I think...Friendly's got on by being affordable and on their ice cream, it was a great place to go for families with kids. Lose the affordability and you've lost your audience.
Also funny thing I had just grabbed a Friendly's storebought sundae and sat down and saw this come up LOL

I think friendly’s has “fallen off” because they don’t sell alcohol. Otherwise, food is great, ice cream is great, and the nostalgic factor makes it special. I will always love friendly’s and hope the one near me never closes! (I think we go to the same one and the lot is always full! So I’m hopeful)
