Awesome video thanks for sharing. I have a 08 accord 2.4 4 cylinder. 186K miles. Check engine light misfire on 2 and 3. Not coils or plug problem. I guess it needs piston head replacement and rings. 2500 to 3k dollars to repair. Too bad Honda knew this and did nothing. Not to mention the VTC Actuator was faulty as well cold start rattle. Also poor paint job. Honda doesn't build them like they used too. Now as a Honda customer I will not be buying another Honda. Maybe buy a Honda Lawn mower at best.

Brandon L Actually, Honda did cover the VTC Actuator, piston, piston rings and pins under warranty if it failed within the warranty or mileage. Also, American Honda does help out when it’s a certain time frame. I have done a lot of pro-rated jobs where customers only end up paying 10% of the entire job. However, it depends on few things like; dealership, service history, vehicle year, mileage, etc...
Thanks for watching the video and hopefully you enjoyed it.

I fixed it. Bought a aftermarket starter . After 6 months car went to limp mode. Bought a oem starter installed it erased codes and did a ckp relearn and car is running great.

Thank you for this video. I'm about to do rings on my 03 odyssey. Had the heads cleaned and valve job done along with new fel pro valve seals. Tops of my pistons aren't as bad as the pistons in your video but they definitely have excessive carbon build up. I was wondering what brand of rings you used and is there any need to check gap or hone the cylinders?

  • @ahlfgarage

Did you use a ball hone on the cylinders? Or just slap the new rings in?

Question I have 2013 accord coupe V6 2nd engine 28k and fuel in oil also getting around 14 mpg before install did timing belt water pump spark plugs and they were supposed to do compression test , leak test and lube everything etc .. Had same dealer do oil change after install and I complained about mpg they said everything was ok , need another oil change dealer was to busy took car to different mechanic and he found fuel in oil took back to dealer and they replaced injectors and guess what same issue , Bringing car back this week my guess is piston rings are bad so should I expect ring job or should I start looking at another new/used engine? Unfortunately extended warranty is now over ( only had 4 months left after they did original replacement. Any thoughts? Any ideas?

I have a 2011 Accord V6 with 147k miles. Do you think Honda will cover it under warranty? I bought the car in 2016 with 67k miles and now it’s misfiring again. First time because of the spark plugs.

Judging from video engine was pretty clean with regular oil changes. Rings did not look that they were stuck, or fully clogged with carbon. Only piston tops had carbon buildup. I wonder how bad was oil consumption.

stunacw1 it just depends on what you want done, it’s more labor intensive to be honest. Also, how well the vehicle is maintained because if is due for timing belt, spark plugs, valve adjustment or oil pump is leaking, etc.... Than it’s a perfect time to do everything and you’ll be saving a lot of money.

@@ArnavMazumder9 Sorry, I should have explained my self a little bit better. So you have A few ways of doing what you’re trying to do.
      1. Removing the engine & transmission together and separating engine from transmission outside. Finally, placing the engine on a engine stand and complete your build.
      2. You can set the engine to TDC. Remove side mount and timing belt and reinstall the side mount.. Support the engine with an engine support bar. Remove the transmission and you can keep the engine in the car.
Hopefully this information is helpful there is a lot of details and ways of doing things to get around some stuff. Good luck. 👍🏻

When you do this do you have to put sleeves in the bore? Or do you just pull the cylinders out, install new rings, and carefully slide them back in?

    • @dmgar3789
      @dmgar3789  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Once you remove the cylinder head, you check all the cylinders for scoring. If no signs of scoring are found, you can proceed to replacing the piston rings. Yes, once you have cleaned the pistons and installed the new piston rings, then carefully slide them back in.

@@dmgar3789 thank you so much man. I'm thinking I'm probably going to leave my piston rings alone as the car is not burning any oil at all. I think I'm just going to do the head gasket and all the seals correlated with that such as the cam seals, oil pump seal, crankshaft seal, and oil pan seal. I'm going to check the valves and see if they're okay as well. My car is having a problem where it is misfiring when it's cold, and run smoothly when it's warm, I have tried replacing coil packs, spark plugs, did a valve adjustment, PCV valve, EGR cleaning, valve cover seal and spark plug tube seals, and nothing seems to be solving the misfire. So I could either have a head gasket issue that isn't showing typical signs, or valve problems. I can't think of anything else. I'm pretty sure my fuel injectors are fine

Great job filming it. I only did it on a Foreman 500 so far:). But my 07 Pilot might need rings at some point as I saw a very slight puff of blue at a tight corner today while accelerating hard. It has a new oil (always MOBIL 1 5w-20) but higher mileage - 240,000kms - 150,000 miles. It is slightly overfilled, not much. Could that be the cause? Otherwise works great. Thanks!
