Fay was still so vivacious and alluring in her 80s in this interview. Such a class act and lovely lady! I'll have to get her book. A true silver screen legend. Thanks for the upload.
Joe was truly a terrific guy and treated everyone so well. He had a lot of up and coming actors on his show too --along with the more established stars and movie legends. Joe was known as the king of nostalgia. I was privileged to know him and appeared on his show several times. Joe was always a class act. He treated everyone who appeared on his show like a star--no matter how long their resumes were. He was one of a kind.
Fay Wray's book came out in 1989, so this interview would have been recorded in 1988 or 1989. Fay would have been about 81 years old. Great to see this classy lady.
This guy is pretty good...never really heard of him before...having lived in the midwest...nice interviews with classic Hollywood talents...like a time capsule.
I grew up on the east coast in the 80’s so joe was a staple!NYC channel 9.West coast public access tv had a guy from LA who had a talk show for yrs. Skip Lowe,Martin Short based his character Jimmy Glick .Lots of episodes on TH-cam.
Joe Franklin What an American Institution he was on WWOR for like 57 years. He had everyone who was ever someone. Sinatra, Berle, Gleason he was great to watch. Joe was also a genius when it came to movie trivia. Absolutely unbelievable amount of knowledge. I was 15 my friends and I used to watch Joe often. We were interested in Classic Hollywood. RIP
His famous book on Silent Films was written by William K. Everson-Everson was the REAL EXPERT on old film-almost nobody could beat him (except maybe Harry Purvis, from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada).
For me having met him in person at a nostalgia event in NYC, my hometown in the 1980s, I congratulated him on his long career and knowledge. While there I also saw the busty brunette who also played Catwoman Juulie Newmar! I had a photo of me and her together, but alas I long ago lost that photo which I could have shown to my late parents. This convention was around 36 years ago. I met other stars at other places but that is for another day.
My brother and I missed a lot of elementary school when we were young (just didn't like it). But we would watch Joe Franklin on WOR Channel 9 in the afternoon. I'm glad I discovered this on TH-cam.
Out in L.A., the former RKO station, KHJ, could always be depended upon to show "King Kong". That's where I first saw the movie. On their "Strange Tales Of Science Fiction" show on Saturday afternoons.
I remember watching Joe in the wee hours while growing up. It seems that often apropos of nothing in particular, Joe would suddenly ask his guest, "So...what are your thoughts on Eddie Cantor?" 😉
26:33 I remember that Sunday night. It was circa 1971 and I watched it with my father and uncle. I think Joe Franklin may have been the first person to invent audio commentary as he was speaking through some of the scenes during the broadcast.
She may have been the most sexy woman back in those days and us men love women with long tresses . She's so likable here. Talk about a cool name, Fay Wray.
Do you have the year this was done. Fay Wray was delightful. I just saw her in "Ann Carver's Profession." (1933). It was the movie she did after "King kong" and she was terrific in it.
New Joe Franklin listener. But wow, every guy on NY radio today sounds so much like Joe. Is Joe like the Chuck Yaeger of NY radio? Every airline pilot imitates Chuck Yaeger's nonchalant chatter. Joe's cadence seems the norm today on radio
Dear Archives, Would you be interested in five of the original stage set pictures you see in this background? They are marked and original.... From WOR.
Fay Ray was a bit too old for Joe here and too well known for him to take advantage of the way he did to young girl's who had stars in their eyes and couldn't see through Joe for what he really was, he took sexual advantage of them leading them to believe he was going to help them which he didn't! Joe would just pass them on to his sleazy friends. Too bad the "Me Too" movement wasn't around then. Joe went under the radar so to speak because he was really no big deal even though he managed to have a local radio and tv show, had he been let's say "Johnny Carson" the crap he got away with would of came back to haunt him. Joe Franklyn was a real sleaze ball lol.

Fantastic interview, legends indeed Fay and Joe... in comparable 👍

What a great guy. So lucky to have known him.
This guy is pretty good...never really heard of him before...having lived in the midwest...nice interviews with classic Hollywood talents...like a time capsule.
Joe Franklin is credited for inventing the TV talk show. He was on the air from 1951 - 1993. Longer than anyone else in the business.

The old days of the classic regional talk shows. New York/New Jersey had Joe Franklin. Chicago had Irv Kupcinet.

Great book. Still in my collection.
Beautiful!!!

Fay was one of the most stunning beauties of the early 1930s.
I'm in love with Fay Wray. Beautiful Lady.
One of the funniest Howard Stern radio segments in the ‘80s was when Joe called in as a guest.
Joe was a classic.
Thank you 🙏 for sharing
King Kong, Fay Wray, channel 9 as WOR-TV...Thanksgiving and the Holiday Movie Special. This Joe Franklin interview makes it all come full circle.

Joe Franklin! - had great guests on his show
Kirk Barkley, He didn't have the greatest musicians and icons of all time: The Beatles'!.....They wouldn't appear on a tiny show like that.
The OG of talk shows how could you not love joe
Love Fay's attitude.
Enjoyed it tremendously
Fay Wray was and is the greatest of all time!
i love the writer's hairdo
classic KING KONG 1933 always best picture of all!
she was delightful
Indeed! Hollywood Icon with class!
So HOT back then,FAY WRAY. She was in the original HOUSE OF WAX ("The Mystery of the Wax Museum")

It’s sad that joes show started in the 50’s and no old episode clips exist😢

WOW thankyou for posting
Great show. My gosh, Billy Crystal played him to a tee on Saturday Night Live.
And later introduced Fay Wray at the 1998 Academy Awards!
Eating cereal with my dad watching The Joe Franklin show.
This beautiful woman had the toughest boy friend of all time
As the 3 stooges would say ........And how!
Which was who, please? Not that I don't believe it, btw.
Do you have the year this was done.

So charming a woman.
"re-lazering" I love Joe.

Joe rocks

Joe had a tendency to get a little overexcited, which could be funny.
Always had a crush on her
She aged well.
I think Fay Ray was one of the hottest women that ever lived .
in the 30s.
Even as an older woman her sexiness intelligence and charm permeated the screen.
she still has the same mannerisms!

Interesting, I never heard of him before seeing this video.
Just wondering ... how do you know this?
@@Moosetta I know. It's common knowledge among those of us in the "know" who were active in the "biz" of "show" at that time.
