    You did an astounding job, you probably don't need to know but the horses shawl is called a frock, and the adornments on it are called dagging, the historical dressmaker in me had to point that out, so thank you for humouring me

    Tbh, im an old wathammer geek, and i enjoyed the more emerald greenish color it had in the beginning, and the White french lillies. It was pretty much spot on for the green knight. It needed alot more love though, and i think your work is a piece of art. Im just a fan of the deeper emerald for the green knight. Great Job though!

    Gorgeous work. Loved it up until the end, when you added the flags. Then I loved it even more. Those were such a well thought addition - they add such visual power to the model, that as soon as you showed them with the model itself, I let out an audible "waaaa" lol

    I have this model, new in the box, along with half a dozen other knights and an army of footmen and archers! Bought them back in the early 90's and put them in storage! Sadly, I forgot about them! I saw this video and remembered that they were there and now I'm in the process of setting them up for a full paint and terrain mount!

    the flags look a bit too cartoony compared to the detailed realism of the knight. you should weather them a bit on the edges and you'll have an awesome miniature!

    • @Jpeg-yz4xj
      @Jpeg-yz4xj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Flags look cartoony on real life too. Its actually a big mistake people do when painting flags, is that they will go for too much shading and weathering, when in reality a flag always looks rather flat.

    • @customizablemilk353
      @customizablemilk353 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      i think the main issue with the flags is the shape of the stripes. they are a bit too straight and dont match the shape of the flag.

      The big flag is from a skaven doom wheel, about $6 on eBay. And the others were from some set of elves, I can’t remember which ones, but they were the best looking medium flags I could find. I got 6 of them for $3 on eBay. I tried making my own, but I knew at least the big one is in good supply right now because the newest skaven box has a doom wheel in it, so tons of them floating around right now, and the ones I made just didn’t work right.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were two kinds made. Most people prefer the metal one, this is the resin cast version. It’s pretty brittle and the details aren’t as clean as the metal one. If this was the metal one I probably work have stripped it. As it was a donated model for rescue, And the base coats weren’t too terrible, I opted to use this started paint job as a base coat for moving forward.
      I prefer not to strip models, but if I have to then I absolutely will. I did a video a while back about a Fryeslayer that I didn’t strip and should have, the results were interesting to say the least lol

    Let's take the Green Knight and turn him into a TMNT character. That should fix it.

    Amazing job really.
    Wish I had half the quality of yours.
    Still I would just point out that the the face of the horse is covered with barding as well so that wasn't exactly the flesh/fur of the horse.
    Sadly the flags didn't get the same spectral treatment as the rest of the miniature.
    Nevertheless this recovery was amazing and thumbs up :D Loved it

      To be honest, I used to be much worse at all this. Looking back at this model in particular, I definitely would have stripped it and then fixed it, if it were today that is. Just part of the learning process really.

    This was so interesting but daaaamn so much green!
    I do need to ask (I'm hella noob at this painting miniatures thing, did my first one some weeks ago), how long do you have to wait before going to the next color?
    can you work on a part while its still fresh for adding some details or is recommended you don't?

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha yeah a lot of green :)
      The only real good way to know when you can begin over a freshly painted piece is when it doesn’t look wet anymore, when you don’t see moisture on that layer. If you are working thin, which you always should, then it won’t take more than a few minutes to dry. As long as you can’t see wet paint. A good tip is to just stay busy, if you paint one thing and need to wait then just grab another color that won’t touch the fresh one and block that in, by the time you’re done with that the other layer should be dry. Washes take longer to dry, but again, if you can’t see wetness then you’re good. You should post up work on our Facebook page, it’s always easier to learn when you can ask questions during a project :)

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah this video is going back a ways, things were just different back then. I know a lot more these days lol. If I got this model tomorrow I would strip it, work on the broken pieces with greenstuff and milliput, and then try and paint it with a little more purpose. I still have this model, he’s holding up at least :)

  • @buster3903
    @buster3903 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you didn't detach the model from the base and stripped the old paint I thought I wouldn't turn out anywhere near as wonderful as it did. Maybe you do this all the time but this is the first of your videos I've come across and I'll definitely check out the rest. Great job on a classic model!

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha thanks man! It’s hit and miss, I try and not strip the model if i can help it, a lot of the time these models are just “unfinished” models that someone else was working on, they shelved it and didn’t continue the project, so I’m just picking up where they left off. Other times they are bad and I probably should have stripped them, but there again, it depends on the model and it’s ultimate use. If I want something on the table I’ll just go for it and see what happens, if I want to take my time then I’ll strip it and take longer to paint it.
      I hope that sheds more light on it anyways. Thanks for checking it out, hope you’ll stick around to see what happens :)

    What are you using for the sculpting when reattaching pieces? Milliput?

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Greenstuff, although if I were to do it again I’d use milliput for most of it. The greenstuff was great for sculpting broken pieces, but milliput would have been better for the gaps. They are both good to have on the desk, it’s just been a learning process to figure out when to use them to their full potential.

  • @TheReverendDown
    @TheReverendDown 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Love the work, but maybe you should strip the models before hand, make sure that the first coat is as thin as possible so the detail isn't blocked

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! As far as stripping goes it just depends on the model and the goal. If I want to really take my time on a model, make it something really special, I would strip it, or just buy it without paint. If I want to get it to the tabletop in a playable condition then I try and get minis that have been started and shelved, so I get them cheap and partially done, and just finish the model as it would have been by the previous owner. Sometimes it doesn’t work out so well, but most of the time it does, and looking at an eBay model on the table next to ones that started as grey plastic, you can’t really tell the difference. In a nutshell, it’s a quick and cheap way to get pretty nice models onto the table and playing games :)
      Hope that helps :)

    Sorry, just don't care for the neon effect. But then, I am from the first generation of D&D'ers so I'm more traditional. I think darkening the ground around would have helped show the piece better.

    What pressure do you have your compressor set to in order to get such a well controlled paint on your mini?

  • @5chr4pn3ll
    @5chr4pn3ll 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great work, but wondering a little about the choice to keep the front limbs and tail of the horse green, when you painted the head and all. They kind of blend away in all that green.
    Lovely video though, music was very chill and pleasant.

    • @eBayMiniatureRescues
      @eBayMiniatureRescues  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The reason I left them green is technically because the whole model is supposed to be a ghost of sorts. I agree, the contrast could be greater on the front and back, it would probably balance him out a little more. Something I can always go back and add for sure :)
      I’m glad you liked the music, I thought it was appropriate for this model.
