I currently have 5 indie games on Steam.. and a modern indie remake of Crossroads II has been in my plans for some time. I've already made my own version of an old Compute! magazine game called Laser Beam and you can find that on Steam right now, it's called "Laser Ball" there. Watch for an all new Crossroads II inspired labyrinth action shooter in the coming months!
Crossroads and Crossroads II were some of the best games available on the Commodore 64. It's so ironic since they were published only as a "type-in games" in "Compute!'s Gazette." They were underrated, if you ask me.
I'm sure if it was a commercial release they would have been sued. Crossroads I & II were a labor of love made by a dedicated Compute! subscriber for his fellow Commodorians! The original was a very close copy of wizards of wor. This second one however, was definitely worthy of a commercial release...but many happy people on a budget who only had type in games were very very glad it wasn't!
Easily my favorite type in game ever on my old Commodore 64. Laser Beam from Compute! Magazine was another old favorite. I remember finding an awesome bug for this game back in the day. If you stood one space above & to the left of any opening on the bottom of the map & then clicked a specific key comb (think it was shift lock + return, or something similar) your little man would move over & down to the empty space & would change to a different game sprite! By repeating the key combo, you could cycle to the * (star) sprite & let the game characters repeatedlty eat this star. Then, kill the enemy & enjoy the stars!
I am looking for an emulator for this game. Thanks for posting this, it was the best game. I typed in all by myself, with a little help my brother back in the day. It was the best game, and it was ahead of its time. I wish someone would make a new were version of this.
Such good times with this game...
I used to play crossroads 2 on repeat! One of the best c64 games by far!
Compute Gazette, my fav game ever. used an Atari joystick plugged in a C64, all floppy.
Best C64 type-in game ever...both this and it's predecessor were amazing.
I'd love to see someone attempt a modern remake of these games.
The person who made these games is my father! I've always tinkered around with the idea of a modern remake, glad some interest is there.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE GAME! One of the best "type in" games ever! Thanks for uploading and jogging my memory. Must have it for Frodo on my GP2x!

One of my favorites!! Haven't seen it in a very long time!! Thanks for posting.
@fuzzywzhe A maze editor was published in the December 1988 issue along with Crossroads II.

Why make a new one?! This one is just as fun now as it was then...
@@peterlamont647 Agreed! These games dont get old and they run flawlessly.
@fuzzywzhe They did bring out a maze editor in a future edition, though, thankfully.
This game is like Wizard of Wor on crack. So awesome.
More like crystal meth
can crossroads or crossroads pandemonium actually be defeated?
All games created by a said culture no matter their intelligence can be defeated with wisdom.

Yes, but some games don't even end, they just loop continuously
