So, basically, my automatic transaxle vent tube just terminates open & raw, no filter or housing into which it plugs. Fortunately the engineers at least thought to mold a "U" shaped downturn into the end of the hose in order to keep (I suppose) rain & road water out. Good one, Nissan. Really superb. 😒😒😒😒😒😞😞😞😞😞😞

What does the sensor do?
Senses if you have enough thermo fluid in the intake, trying filling the fluid first
