      They haven't put out the datasheet for the Rogal Dorn Tank Commander yet, only the officer can get those. He's going to come with the new order "drive closer so I can hit them."

    I like how the tank with the Oppressor Cannon and Coaxial Autocannon in the turret and the Pulveriser Cannon in the hull the thing resembles a baby Baneblade. So even though it’s a totally new tank for the Guard it fits right in.

    Personally, I take:
    - Oppressor / Co-axial
    - Pulveriser
    - 3 Heavy Stubs
    - 2 Bolters
    I find staying out of 18in beneficial against melta range. Also I mostly never move my Dorn unless I have to. So I have those lethals on 6s

    Ive been running my dorn as 3 stubbers, multimeltas, gatling gun, oppressor and autocannon. All the dakka makes sure my tank doesnt worry about infantry. And the oppressor cannon can tear chunks out of any threats. If something dangerous gets close, the multimeltas tend to show them why that was a mistake

    Been running the Oppressor, Pulveriser, heavy bolters and triple stubbers. But i absolutely see the benefits for the multi meltas... been considering it myself for a while

      It's accualy a hard call you still really do not want to be charged you won't be able to shoot your blast weapons at all but then again if you do get charged multimelta is kinds scarry. I look at it this way if you are going to be playing around at range 18 regularly take the multimelta if not take the heavy bolter because despite it being an infior gun I would rather have some shots then no shots because I was out of range either way the stybbets are the better pick over the meta because if your trying to decide if 18" is to close then 12" sure as hell to close so just hard nope no matter what the rest of the profile looks like the only other call to make is also simple if you know you are only taking it up against low armor save hords the getting cannon is the weapon of choice if thus is bot true or you are uncertain playvit safe and take that stubby hull cannon it is a better all around weapon. Considering how prevalent cover is even for holds the cannon could even be a better choice there so in all but the most specific circumstance oppressor, pulverized heavy bolters and triple stubborn the safer choice try and operate at about 24 inches and you gold. If you Want to or have to take more risk with the dorn and are going to have to be closer in it might be worth taking the multimeltas and trying to operate at about 18". You orobaly do not want to move closer to the enemy then this unless you have little choice in the matter because in the end scoring points wins games and some times even a unit that is ment to fight not play msu games has to go score you points, you should carefully way up how often you are forced into 18" or closer versus how often you do not get that close and decide if the multimelta is worth it. Back when multimelta was 24" range this was a no brainer now it is actually a real choice and it really just depends on what you are doing with the unit. Heavy bolters are not accualy a bad profile but cover and armor of contempt really make the -1 ap feel like not enough. To be competitive against other heavy weapons with current strength ap and damage heavy bolters would need at least 5 maby 6 shots to be considered a enough equilvent. A lot of the MG equilvent weapons are in this same spot now with the removal of points for weapons why would you ever take them they are just statistically inferior so either they need to be brought in to rough equivency or points for weapons need to come back. The only time this is not true is when one of the nominally superior weapons range is just to short forcing the better to have a worse gun then a gun that's out of range most of the time. For any unit that is playing a more fire support role and is not planning to drive Stright up on an objective even a multi meltas 18" range is really pushing the bounds of to short of range. OK I have rambled enough gold star to any one who accualy makes it through my mess of a comment

    I've found a few interesting things with guard especially.
    First is that silly can work, and rather well. My first Russ is an autocanon, duel melta, and a Lascannon. It wasn't great at the end of 8th guard codex but they were first games and it was rule of cool.
    Now in 10th? That tank has held the line against dreadnoughts, waves of necrons, going toe to toe with a canoptek walker, and is often the nuisance to be defeated. Though it is not optimised or any suggestion I've heard, even in the multiple Russ loadout videos.
    From that russ, twin linked is powerful with high amounts of shots - a S9 weapon getting to deal 3 wounds to T10 and above with reroll. So I have to disagree on not taking the twin battle canon and its D6+3 with reroll.
    Its S10 sure, but most other vehicles are T10 or 9, you need the reaper, land raider, or guard tanks/knights for the most part to make it wound on 5+.
    So while the oppressor will certantly wound better on a 3 and 4+ more often, even wounding custodes on a 2+, it can lose out alot when the battle canon is still wounding on 4+ but with two chances.
    If most things are T10 or below, by rolling a 1 or 2 on the oppresor canon, you've lost damage whereas you can get it through on the battle canon.
    T11 up no longer matters as much as it's two chances at a 5+ instead of one chance at a 4 and 5+ at T12+. T11 is still probably worth it on the oppressor but when its a Vindicator or Russ with T11 for the most part, may as well get the wound reroll.
    The second thing is that planning works rather well, and I must say, thank you Mordian for helping me do better. Been able to get further with many of your suggestions and guidance.
    The reason you plan is it works, and with guard especially, it is required.
    This leads into the conclusion.
    My proposal for weapon systems is to be silly and plan ahead.
    Destroyer Dorn: Twin battle canon, pulveriser canon, Multi melta and melta. It's still a high amount of shots for infantry but its the damage you want. Multiple chances of 3 damage from the main gun, 5+ on everything else to wound against T10+ instead of 6+, but if its a vehicle, your wanting more than one wound through anyway, so up the chances and deal heavy blows. Sure it has to get close and can't use the pulversier in combat, but it can still use it to target other units.
    Now you've got near guaranteed 3 damage in combat with 6 melta shots while still blowing up vehicles elsewhere. And if you can place it in a choke point, suddenly its like a fortress.
    Dakka Dorn: Oppressor canon and autocanon, then stubbers, bolters, gatling canon. Volume of fire alone can still beat vehicles, especially given the longer ranges where born soldiers can activate as its a backline shooter. But you've got the oppressor and auto canon dishing out the big damage on armoured threats. So you're covered up close and at range with the smaller boards allowing for devestating volleys when opponents are exposed.
    Final proposal is basically this video. Plan for everything. Add in the multi-melta and pulveriser but take stubbers for 9-18 shots at 36 and 18" ranges. Mostly stick with the oppressor but if you're expecting a T13 vehicle or larger amount of enemies you need gone, twin linked can help alot.
    Finally, do take an exterminator autocanon whether its one, two, or three dorns in the list.
    Now you get the ap on stubbers, hit the invuls of 4 and 5+, remove saves from most vehicles with the meltas, the gatling canon is wounding on 3+ and making saves harder.
    Silly works, but plan with it.
    And for the Destroyer Dorn, probably don't glue it in. It's a bit of a meme build as a laugh that, when I finally get one or two, will be used to rush forward on a flank. It's one of those where you don't want to be dropping the amount you are on that build as a permanent fixture.

    I run mine the same but roll out with Heavy Bolters instead. But this has more to do with what I do with my other tanks in the motor pool, I use my Baneblade as a Bruiser tank and as I put it up the middle of the battlefield so many of my units get cover from the Baneblades silhouette.

    Nice, this is the exact loadout I already have both of my dorns equipped with for the same reasoning. There is just a little bit of logic you missed on the multi meltas though and that's that they are better at anti vehicle than you think they are. That AP-4 is a big deal. Assume you are shooting a russ, you shoot it with the oppressor cannons and multi meltas. The oppressor cannon wounds on 3s but the russ saves on 4s, that is a 33.33% chance at dealing damage with each shot. The multi meltas only wound on 5s but the russ' save is a 6 up, which results in a 27.77% chance tor damage. That makes a roughly 5.56% difference which isn't that much, in adittion, the multi melta does more damage. So yes, multi meltas don't wound often against tanks, but when they do, they basically skip the armor save. I mean yeah there are invulnerable saves, but those aren't the most common.
    And finally, the main reason the multi meltas are better than you think is because of the combined regiment detachment rule, which gives guns lethal hits, if your multi melta scores a lethal hit, against the vast majority of targets, that is just auto damage because most things don't have better than a three up armor save.
    Also, you covered this but, being able to wound space marines on 2s and deny an armor save is so juicy.

    Yeah, I'm been thinking the same. I love my Dakka Dorn, but it just doesn't hit as hard as the hybrid. I just got my second Dorn and I'll give this build a go.

    I’m really regretting gluing my heavy bolters on mine. 😅 Thankfully the Castigator and Pulveriser aren’t glued in place and I can just switch them out. I’ll make sure not to be lazy with the two others I’m getting and magnetizing them.

    I think I found a fun new Mechanized regiment list to try, Lord Solar command blob, 3x20 man squads of cadians led by castellans, 6 chimeras, a basilisk, 3 executioners and a brace of scout sentinels...I doubt it will ever work on a competitive table, but I've a casual match lined up over Thanksgiving that it should be a fun list for a lighthearted afternoon game over a couple after meal beverages

      @@johnhildenbrand2642 yeah you cant have a 20 man squad split up into 2 chimeras, a chimera can carry 12 guardsmen *so a 10man squad 2 officiers for example* or 6 heavy weapon teams, or 4 ogryns

      @@Baktrianos A range that becomes ever more pointless every time they shrink the table size. That was something in, say, 2nd edition, when tables were 8’ by 4’, and it was entirely possible to have a target over 100” away, if you were situated on opposing table corners.

    A wise man once said to me. The best armor is Distance. The oprressor is the weapon of choice hands down. Unless you have a special mission for your tank. Which i suggest you dont. Better for Leman russ or sentinels to play special missions.
