    I just found your videos while trying to learn more about embroidery. I would never have thought to combine it with paint! I wonder if gouache would hold up on the fabric. It’s much more pigmented and it can be watered down to be a bit like watercolor. Might be interesting for defined shapes vs blendy watercolor areas.

      Ah yes I actually have used gouache on fabric and it’s a bit more challenging to paint with but it turned out pretty nice! I’ve stitched through it too and it flakes ever so slightly but I was happy with the finished result. 😊

    What if you want to paint over the erasable pen design and still have the design for the embroidery? Won’t the water erase the design?

    Thank you!! I have been doing crewel for a few years and want to make my own designs. I'm taking a watercolor/mixed media class but using fabric in the class. I appreciate your info. I didn't know if the fabric needed treated before or afterwards. I guess not at all.....cool! Do you ever embroider on top of the watercolor?

      You’re welcome! I have never treated it after but I’m sure there is a way you could . You can definitely embroider on top of the watercolor!

      @@crewelghoul I'm looking for a way to be able to wash the fabric afterwards, just because my pieces tend to have at least some sweat/oil stains on the fabric no matter what I do, wondering if you have any tips to either prevent it or remove it after 🙏

      @@alinaadany128 A mild soap would be good to use to get any stains out. There are also things you can put around the hoop that are made of fabric to protect the edges of fabric while you're working! A lot of people sell them on etsy and call them grime guards.

    It turned out beautiful. Does the paint fade off or do you have to seal it?

    • @crewelghoul
      @crewelghoul  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! I didn’t seal it and it didn’t fade anymore than when it initially dried!

    Lovely work and combination of technique.
    If you use that pen just for embroidery is there any concern that the marks may become visible later, ie they don’t smudge and are secured under the stitches?
    Also, if we make a mistake how do we erase the trace? Do we wipe it off with a cloth with water, or is a finger enough?
    Thank you!

    • @crewelghoul

      Thank you! The marker I use is water soluble so the marks came off when I painted over them and the marker doesn’t smudge at all! If you make a mistake normally a damp cloth with make it disappear :)

    does the cloth that's been painted on end up being harder once dried?

    • @crewelghoul
      @crewelghoul  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vesper just slightly, it’s watercolor so it’s not super stiff once it dries and isnt like how acrylic paint feels when it’s dried
