Having been to Indonesia twice I'd say you had a very typical Indonesian experience (outside of the MotoGP). AND there is nothing wrong with hiring a car driver or motorbike driver on the fly, to take you around - I've done it dozens of times in SE Asia with no problems what-so-ever. Great video!
I'm a little confused about this resort. If they only take cash, they should be used to seeing such a large sum of cash. If that was the biggest bill, wouldn't everyone that comes to the resort be paying in the same manner? Does this guy help every guest count out their stacks and celebrate with pictures and jubilation?? Haha man, I wish I was blessed with a wandering foot like yourself. You make traveling look so easy!
as an Indonesian, i still can't wrap my head around the fact that there are not many Petrol station around the Mandalika circuit 🤣. there's literally only ONE official Pertamina petrol station near the circuit, and about 15 km north from the circuit🤣. The 3rd party stalls are okay in Lombok, but do be careful if you are on the other part of Indonesia with those. there are sketchy ones that mix it with water and will damage your rented bike. that being said, explore our country at your hearts content (not just Bali). we are generally friendly people so don't be strangers! from the stunning highlands of Northern Sumatra, to the Paris of Java (Bandung City) and the old cities in Batavia (Jakarta) and Surabaya, to the jungles of Borneo, the spice rich Sulawesi and the Mollucas island (Maluku), and to the extremes and rugged beautiful terrains in West Papua. Do beware, most of the foreigners who stayed here for extended period of times tend to get addicted to everything Indonesia (particularly the local and traditional food) and will eventually stay for some more! 😆
I recommend you switch around resorts to get the most out of your vacation, especially in Lombok. It's a missed opportunity to not hike up Mountain Rinjani and camp for a night near the peak. A view of a volcano inside a volcano with a lake surrounding it as the clouds disperse while the sun is slowly rising behind your back at 3000mdpl is something you only get in a fantasy book. Granted, you gonna need to spend at least a few hundred more per person and hike for 2-5 days, it's not a popular destination for the average tourist.
I can tell you about a more budget friendly MotoGP: Riding Scooty Activa in Goa. There’s no start and no finish. Only chill vibes. (Jk it’s great to tune into your adventures) 0:25 BRB getting pink banknotes because they look awesome
I LOVE Lombok!!! Was there with my family this yr in Aug. The ppl are so loving and kind, and Lombok is beyond beautiful. Can't wait to go back one day.
Fun fact about the Mandalika GP circuit - the FIM inspected the surface after it was first laid and they rejected it, ordering a resurfacing job just before the first GP. Also, it's the epicentre of a major corruption scandal - but that's nothing new for Indonesia, sadly.
2250.00 that's pretty good. It cost me more then that for 3 nights in Vegas last August. Looks like your resort is pretty new as it doesn't exist yet on Google Street views. Nice spot.
Gotta love Lombok! Should have gone to Sembalun or hiking Mount Rinjani.. Or when you feel like you want to party, go to Gili (Island) Trawangan and adjacent island..
That was awesome Mike and I was like you when I first heard that Moto GP was going to Lombok, but seemed to be a good track and race. It also would have brought in some fantastic revenue and jobs for the local community/country.
I was concerned for a moment about going to a hotel that only takes cash and is located over an hour out of town down a dirt road - it all sounds pretty sketchy. But I was glad to see it all turned out great - nice suite, nice people.
The whole trip was less than 1 of our seats at the F1 Las Vegas GP last week. It was the only race I've ever been to and probably will ever go to, but it's insane what they charge. Surprisingly though Formula E tickets earlier this year were less than the Moto GP tickets.
Hi Mike, I ought to bed asleep as it's 12:33 am in Australia but TH-cam has notified me that this video has just dropped for regular subscribers. I'm torn between the sensible choice to sleep and my desire to watch this video. Perhaps I should watch it later in the morning.

The local resort like these usually accept bank transfers only
One hotel I stayed at in Suriname only took American Express. No Visa, No Mastercard - cash or bank transfer.
bro!! what's next? WRC???! WRC has the wildest crowd! would be next year though
You keep mention Rupees instead of Rupiahs. As an Indonesian, you make me feel like I'm an Indian 😂But it's okay. Glad that you're enjoying your stay.
As an Australian who has been to both India once and Indonesia a few times(no, I’ve never been to Bali 🤣), I thought the same thing!

5:18 Mike in 1920s Germany trying to buy a loaf of bread.
I've heard about Lombok from BBC's Race Across the World. The finish was there.

Not to mention the humidity of the country you were taking off from too. That explains the second bedroom.
Try the indonesian trains
