    I'm glad I caught this video. Although, it says this video was made ~ a year ago, so, I hope they would have fixed their glitches by now - 2023! I was thinking to buy this, or another one of their bike models, because now, they have a carbon fiber belt, etc.
    The Turi is expensive, and the other model (I don't remember what it's called) is a little cheaper. Still expensive; and for the money they are charging, I hope there aren't the glitches that were built into the older models!
    So, again, thanks for this video.
    If I do buy a bike, I'll order it to a bike shop and pay to have them put it together. I hope that will eliminate (?) the chances for me to put it together wrong!!!

    ❤ Many thanks for this video. The comments here answered one of my critical question - the question of how far the step-through (taking the leg across through the bike to mount) make it comfortable. The fact that your dad, at 80, finds it comfortable, makes me feel that I'll cherish it just as much at 77. 😊
    I am pretty much decided in favour of Turi, as against the Continuum Onyx, and seeing your video and reading comments here, I feel reassured of my decision.
    While I can see your dad feeling not so comfortable with the thinner tires, what is your own experience riding this bike, that is, if you have taken it for a few spins yourself? Cheers

      Thanks for the kind words😀. I looked up the Onyx bike and the Turi will have a more upright seating position. On all his bikes, I’ve noticed that my Dad tends to adjust things so he can sit more upright.
      I’ve not ridden his Turi more than a quick couple laps around the cup-de-sac at his house but it feels very much like a cruiser style bicycle. For flat terrain or an area with small hills and inclines I think it’ll do really well. If you have steeper hills, I don’t think the rear hub provides enough of a low gear to make climbing comfortable. But, I’ve not personally tried riding it up a steep hill so that’s purely seat of the pants feel from pedaling around in its lowest range setting. Still, if you’ve ridden enough bikes for enough years you can quickly feel an easy to pedal low gear over a taller one.
      The skinnier tires make for a rougher ride. I don’t recall what size the wheels are, but I’d like to fit larger diameter tires on it to cushion things up for him. Overall it is a nice bike to ride and enjoy the scenery. The brakes worked really well and the belt drive wasn’t noticeable like it felt harder to pedal than normal. The dropped top tube definitely makes it easier for a person to mount and dismount compared to a traditional frame. I think you’ll enjoy riding it around. Cheers!

      @@thatalaskaguy Your comments further endorse my conviction that I'm targeting the right bike. I essentially ride for fitness and recreation, all under 4 miles a day, on roads/ sidewalks, and plain cycle paths - all flat and no steep hills. I, therefore, think that the thinner and a smaller diameter tires would cause me any worry. The tires on Turi are 700x35, and adequate for my kind of rides. Thanks again.
      Before I place the order in another week, I might have another question or two, and I hope you'll find the time to address those if I post it here again.

    Thanks for your very informative video.
    You covered every detail, and it's a handsome bike to me.
    I finally placed my order today of the Turi, which is currently on Memorial Sales of 15% off. With tax and shipping its $900.
    I am concern about the disk brake caliper, and will definitely want to switch the front brake to the right hand also.

    I want to buy this bicycle, I don't know if it will be such a good purchase? if someone can tell me,,
    I was looking at it on the original sales page! I think it's good to go far as close. I like all the style

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s a good bike if you are looking for something that’ll be very low maintenance, has low stand over clearance and allows for not having to shift gears in the traditional sense. It’s a city bike style so you’ll be sitting in a more upright position. The skinny tires will make for a more jarring ride over cracks, pot holes and rough surfaces. But they will also have less drag and be easier to pedal that a fatter, cushier balloon type tire. The belt drive alone will save a person from the dealing with the most frequent and messy maintenance item on a bike, the chain. That alone is a big selling feature.

      Yes - I am leery of a bike that has glitches!!! I was thinking of buying one of their models, because they have the belt, and enclosed gears... But, I'm wondering if I should go elsewhere to buy... 2023/ May. I hope the glitches have been ironed out!

      @@meredithheath5272 hard to say? I was surprised by some of the issues I ran into. But, if you have a bike shop assemble it they will be able to correct what is needed.

    I just put this bike together now and I'm also having a problem with that caliper area, but I'm not sure if it is the same. What is happening is that the tire spokes (i guess) hit that inner part of the caliper. was this the opposite of what you were saying was the issue? its like it is too far over on my bike so that my wheel needs to be further away from it.

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s unfortunate to hear. Sounds like the opposite issue that I had. Make sure you installed the front wheel into the fork correctly, it may be too far over to the brake side. You could also install a washer or two as a spacer on the axle to shove the brake side fork leg away from the spokes. Make sure your brake caliper is taking full advantage of the adjustability it’s slots provide to mount if furthest away from the spokes.
      Finally it could be the brake mount tab was welded on incorrectly this not providing adequate clearance. The company will need to rectify that issue by sending a replacement fork or even a bike.

    Thanks for the review. How does he like it after 3 months?

    • @thatalaskaguy
      @thatalaskaguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      His biggest complaint is the narrow tire width. It doesn’t ride as soft as his older bike that has bigger, wider tires. He also thinks the Turi is more difficult to balance with the narrower tires.

      @@mheermance my Dad turned 80 this spring so he has difficulty swinging his leg over a traditional diamond type bike frame like on the L-Train. The lower top bar clearance makes the Turi much easier for him to get on and off. I’m thinking of fitting wider tires to his Turi but I’ve not looked at it since I dropped it off to him after making the video.
