    I got one of their first few shipments of the original Classic. I'm going into my third year on it, I've NOT ridden it gingerly and only had to replace the tires. Ditched the Dutch bars for the commuters and put some old BMX pedals and grips on it. Love the bike, great company...when you email with a problem/question, Dave himself responds within minutes. It's creaking a bit so I'm gonna retire it next year and get another Priority. Either a Continuum or an Eight, hence, here I am watching this. It really has been exactly as advertised...zero maintenance cycling. Congratulations and enjoy it. Go Buffs.

    These bikes are absolutely beautiful! I had my eyes on Detroit Bikes for a long time, but when I started noticing Priority's from your videos, I was extremely intrigued, and was thinking, "Maybe I wanna get one of these?!" So I decided to get my Detroit, but now my sights are on a Priority. I'm SO interested in the penion gear box or the Priority 600 and 600x.. but really, all the bikes from this company look amazing, and Priority seems like a GREAT bike company.

    Ryan - I have some bad news and some good news. Bad news first. About a year and a half ago I (believe) - I purchased that exact Priority Continuum bicycle from a woman off of craigslist here in Denver. She bragged that it was your bike at one time. Since that day I've put that bicycle to good use on my daily commutes throughout metro Denver. Rain or shine she never let me down. Well - ok the Gates Carbon System and the N330 IGH let me down once or twice during extreme conditions, but that was one great bike. Yes, I said was one great bike because last week Dave and I had to lay her to rest following a freak accident that sent me over the handlebars and the bike - well, back to NYC - her place of birth. The Good News - Dave and Priority Bicycles are sending me a new Continuum Onyx as a replacement. I couldn't be happier with Dave and Priority Bicycles right now - New Bike Day New Bike Day!!

    Was taking stories of camping gear down a single track in a state park (Newport State Park) that was rustic back packing camping only....my girl and I brought a three room tent to trails that were made for one man tent, for instance...oh...lawn chairs two coolers and firewood etc etc...so I used my Bob trailer to haul of this...three trips on a single track...medium tech...the Bob Trailer dropped its wheel and I did not notice it was gone for about a thousand feet...walked back to get it and tightened the skewer a bit...and away we went......traded that trailer complete with rust and corrosion ten years later for a model of the very first carbon fiber frame (Mossberg) that now sits in a bike museum in southern California.

    Very cool, freedom machines is a great term..... made me think of my first bike that I got for Christmas when I was little which was a 2nd hand Raleigh bike in a cool silver colour and rainbow stripes.... then after a huge hiatus I got back into biking in about 2010.... now have a specialized Hardrock MTB & a fun bright blue Reid harrier (all blue.. even the wheels..) single speed for work! Never thought I'd own 2 bikes :P That gear shifter on your new bike is rad!

    Rather than say bikes are the silver bullet, I would say alternative transportation infrastructure. Which, where I live, would mean sidewalks. Essentially, it means ways to get where you’re going that aren’t cars. It would also help to have more mixed use zoning which is illegal in most of the US and Canada.

    Dude, great video! Seriously... love to see how passionate you are about bikes, also very well edited!
    I've been riding to work for a few years but lately have realised how much I hate driving now... I actually had to drive to work the other day (after like 5 months) and it felt so wrong, was like what's with all this traffic and pushy cars from lanes everywhere, THEN I had to try find a parking spot - LOL. Why do people bother!
    I also built an electric skateboard which is fun, but if I used it+train to get to work I got NO exercise. So I stopped using it. Just ride. That's the shit.
    Very excited since I found priority a week ago, probably going to get a classic. Anyway, kudos and I've subscribed :)

    Tires do not explode in airplanes. Cruise pressure differential is considerably less than 10 psi, which is obviously not a problem for a bike. The only problem that could occur is if an airplane is shipping 100s of full tires, there is a sudden decompression, and a source of ignition is present simultaneously. Pretty remote. However, pressurized air is considered Dangerous Goods, and is more costly and more complicated to ship.

    I've ridden a belt drive before, but never seen a CVT in person. You mention in the comments that it's nice and smooth, but how's the gear range? Do you feel as though you could get in a gear low enough to climb a 1,000 foot, steep grade with 75 pounds of gear on the bike? Could you get into a high enough gear to get up to 35 mph on a flat stretch? Or does it top/bottom out in a pretty narrow range? Do you find yourself feeling like you're frequently stuck in a gear that's too high or too low and wish there was more gears to choose from? Thanks for all the helpful info!

    • @duzer
      @duzer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A steep incline with 75 pounds of gear would be tough, but do-able, cranking at 35mph on a flat is almost impossible...the gearing is more set for city commuting...I talked to the owners of Priority and they say that you can get a bigger crank and longer belt drive if you want more speed. I don't feel stuck in high or low gears when riding around Boulder, the benefit of the CVT is that you're always right where you should be. Hope this helps

    • @bradfredericks9835
      @bradfredericks9835 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, sounds like it would cover >95% of my needs. Definitely comfortable giving up a bit of top end speed in exchange for simpler, maintenance free biking. Not looking to race on this setup anyways. Worst case I throw on a different crank. Thanks for the great insight!

    I live in Portland, Oregon. A bike town. Unrelated to this video. I listened to a radio program on Oregon Public Broadcasting about the Dutch Reach. It's when you open the driver's door, instead of your left hand opening. The door and and getting out, The Dutch Reach. Is a right hand reach over open the door. Causing the upper body to. Turn your look to the side mirrors and be aware of cycling folk. Zipping by.
    I'm not sure but in the Netherlands it is part of driver's test. It's a good idea. What do you think? Sorry, my poor writing skills.

      Ryan, if you don't mind my asking another question, I am curious about how comfortable the seat is. What has kept me from riding has been seat discomfort. I prefer a more relaxed riding position. The CONTINUUM has no suspension at all, and there are no springs on the seat either. Is it like sitting on a rock? (I think if they used the seat that's on their Priority Coast on the Continuum, that might make for a more comfortable ride.) Thanks.

    • @duzer
      @duzer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The seat has been comfortable for me, but my arse is used to sitting on all different kinds of bike seats. It's definitely not like sitting on a rock, and after time, you get used to it and it's no longer a problem. Sometimes you can use padded bike shorts if it gets really uncomfortable.

    I'm a fan of how you edited this video!
    Just began riding a bike the other night after being challenged to get somewhere I'd normally get by car but not having access to a car. I decided to take extreme ownership of the situation and got there just fine on two wheels and even had fun doing it! Albeit I learned what you mean in this video by the need for fenders!
    Biking is growing on me. And I love and appreciate the inspiration of someone who exclusively gets around on bikes as you do.
    I'm extremely curious how you take girls on dates on a bike. That's an idea I had toyed with in my mind, how I wouldn't mind riding everywhere.... but then how do I take that special girl somewhere special on a bike? Can you share your secret bike date tips, Ryan? Honestly, between that and how to get around in inclimate weather these are my only two counterpoints to perma-bike-lifing it up!
    Much love to you, Ryan.

      HI Zack! Thanks for your kind words, appreciate it! And psyched that you're falling in love with bikes!!! In Boulder, lots of girls ride bikes, so it's easy for a couple to ride together, I guess that's what I meant. On very few rowdy occasions I've thrown a lady on the handlebars :) Tandems work great too. You know you've found a great lady when she's cool with biking with you to a fancy restaurant! I have tons more bike content if you're looking for more inspiration. Happy Friday

      Ryan Van Duzer Thank you, Ryan! I appreciate that. I've been to Boulder on a summer cross-country trip. Sounds like a dreamy place full of open minded, high spirited people... who like to get outside!
      Like I said I appreciate the inspiration. The fact that you choose not to own a car and get around by your own human power is just downright awesome.
      Inspired enough that I've been walking and biking to work exclusively for the last week and a half. I'm increasing my bike-ability!
      I'm taking your advice to heart, because you are living the lifestyle and doing it in a way that you've refined from years of experience. And these are values and a way of living that I can sincerely get behind.
      I sold my car not too long ago to go on some adventures and having come back... invested in a quality bike... and have been loving it since.
      I have been and will be watching all of your videos on the mentality, beauty and practice of riding a bike... and oh yeah, I'm totally snagging some fenders... learned my lesson this morning!
      Again, Keep it up Ryan. You've got me seeing the light of what's possible and I'm sure there will be many others.
      "I will persist until I succeed."
      Much love to you, man!

    Donate a Secure bike rack! You can do it! Go around your neighborhood, text your friends. Get the word out on SM that you are raising money to install a steel in concrete, locking loop type rack for your school! The total cost should be under $200 and an enterprising, hustling kid can raise that in a few days! First meet with the proper schoold reps and get their blessing and a location they will let you install it and then just DO OT!
