That's pretty damn quick for the base engine in that heavy of a car.

If you wanna get the fastest possible 0-60 time, don't play with the sport or comfort modes, instead just close the top!!

Top Gear once said that a Golf GTI in comfort mode was quicker around the track than the same Golf GTI in sport mode.
It's more important to look good than to be fast and this car looks good

Interesting that it's slower in Sport because in Comfort it pulls away in 2nd gear, Sport drops it into 1st on the line. I wonder whether, with that much torque, the fractionally slower acceleration in 2nd off the line is more than made up for by one less gearshift?

Drive mode doesn't necessarily give you all the beans. It can often opt to switch gears faster to conserve fuel, which keeps it out of optimal torque. Sport mode does indeed make a big difference.

And it says it goes faster in comfort mode, and i wonder what ppl like u think when u would say that. I also wonder what you saw that was so different from what I saw in this vid..
Walid Bougaila it wasn't tested in Sport or Sport+ in this video - so I'm not sure where you're getting that from.

You missed the point of the SL. Customers bought the SL for the GT experience and luxury touring and comfort and not for speed. If you want to experience a proper SL then drive the R230 series, its a lot better than the R231 chassis which is more like a sports car than a GT car...

Slight bit more poppy grumble with sport + but, it was barely noticeable.

Some ppl do want to know how fast it is top down but also they could do it both ways I don't see why not indeed, maybe because the difference between the two runs we saw ..it wouldn't have mattered much. Plus you could use some more sense, this was .. a "lighter" presentation with the sl.. And if u need some more help i meant take it as it is and u always got more serious 0-60's on yt or google.
Why is it dumb? If anything it would make the car quicker. The extra weight from the top being folded over the back end might give it extra grip. There's really no difference though.

A second? LOL. We who do have one know, that the added weight roof down at back wheels and therefore better grip is actually more meaningful than drag. Sure if it would be 0-100mph, then it might be a different story, but for 0-60mph drag is negligible compared to grip in a 300+hp car.

When buying an SL you do not look for the $. Most are probably lease, so 100 bucks more or less a month should not be relevant.

The 450 is as fast a car as you'll ever need. 5.5s 0-60 is pretty quick enough to get you into trouble

My 2008 SL is faster and sound and looks like more fun than that 2017. Plus, my sport mode is faster than comfort mode. Would be near to compare a SL ten years older to that SL.

I love the Mercedes SL. If I were rich I would have one in my garage along with a Range Rover.
I love the SL and have always preferred the V6 versions as they seem to hit the sweet spot between performance and handling. The V8s and V12s are just a tad too heavy that they feel a bit cumbersome and have too much power for public roads.

Rich Piana's Oil Distribution Manager not sure I follow. Can you explain what you mean, which models specifically? I know that different models are sold around the world and the V6 often did not make it to the states. At any rate, this model is over 300 pounds lighter than the SL550

Robert Wise - If you are talking about the overheating issue, it has been corrected. I'm sure a 2017 Z06 is more reliable than any new Benz and it will run circles around this thing.

unfortunately these cars TANK in the used market. a 2 year old SL with low miles goes for less than half its sticker price, and 5 years into ownership and the car barely is worth 25% or MSRP. The SL is a prime example of a shit investment.

on the car? Errr... Nope... Learn how to launch and get the times. My blown SRT will run mid to high 3's to 60 and mid 11's, throw any old guy at it with no common sense (like my friend a while back) and he struggled to hit a 12.8 and ran 5.7 to 60... No launch technique equals a slug.

Been racing tracks for 20 years and ran more than a few 9's in my old car, so I can cut a pretty good launch in most cars given enough power, traction and practice and the right ... Expert? If you don't live behind a wheel most aren't and I don't claim to be. Watching someone stomp a gas pedal to the carpet sure isn't a good launch technique at any altitude. D/A obviously kills a cars time so I'll give you a few tenths! 😉 Oh... and I've raced at Thunder Mountain so you never know I might get to take you up on that one day!

You can put yourself in a ZL1 that will absolutely destroy this thing for less money and frankly for a better looking car to my eye. This is one ugly Benz. At 108K I'd likely opt for a good 911. I'm sure a lot of people get all excited about neck air and seat massages and all that nonsense. It is entirely uninteresting to me, especially in a performance car.
Red Horse Thing is this isn't a performance car, it's a convertible grand tourer essentially. It's supposed to be for comfort and Luxury. The zl1 only has performance and no comfort/luxury in comparison.
Got it. A two door coupe, 362 hp twin turbo car with a "sport plus" driving mode that advertises a 4.9 second 0 to 60 time on the Mercedes website and is even classified as a "roadster" (not a GT) by MB should never be confused with a performance car in any measure. What was I thinking. lol
