  • This is a review of the Honshu Spartan Sword distributed by United Cutlery. It has a full-tang, 16 1/2” 7Cr13 stainless steel blade, which features a blood groove. TPR injection handle is tough and grippy with finger grooves and a textured pattern, plus, it has a lanyard hole. 23” overall length. This blade can be purchased on Amazon, Bud k, and many other websites. This is my very first video. I will get better at it. Thanks for watching.

    Actually I was impressed by this test! It wasn’t a water bottle test like others do! I may pull the trigger on it now, but I’m waiting till they get their D2 version back in.

    I own this sword. It's a great shortsword, but it has its drawbacks.
    Here's what I like about it: It looks great, and is intimidating to any would-be opponent. That's important. It IS mucho sharp, right out of the box. Nothing feels cheap about it, and everything, from handle to guard, to the tip of the blade, is solid. I am sure it will keep a decent edge and is as tough as it is depicted in this video. The leather sheath/scabbard it comes in is of very decent quality, although worthless for a fast draw. The lanyard hole in the handle is a huge, and I would even say, necessary, plus.
    What I don't particularly like about it (and what's not shown in this video): It feels heavy and unwieldy for its size. The balance point on the sword is about 1/3 up the blade. That makes it a good chopper, but hard on the wrist in active defense or thrusting. This point-heavy aspect, plus the extreme sharpness and design of the blade make it somewhat dangerous for the user. It is not difficult to imagine, for example, the handle slipping accidentally from your hand and the point of this thing going right through your foot. Also, fast-draw with extreme caution, unless you want to visit the emergency room! Lastly, the blade is made out of 7Cr13 stainless steel, which is a high-carbon Chinese steel, often used in making knives and certain pieces of equipment. It is resistant to corrosion and very strong, but I have to wonder, because of the geometry of this sword's blade, if it might be likely to chip or splinter under certain conditions.
    The bottom line is this is an excellent weapon for the price, but by all means, treat it with respect and don't be an idiot with it.

      I am glad you have given this added information. It definitely goes beyond what I showed in this video. I know this type of stainless can be brittle and this short sword should not be used like I used it in this demonstration. I just wanted to see what this weapon could take under semi-extreme conditions... and I think it did quite well. Thank you for your in depth response. So glad you shared.

    Very informative video 👍👌Do you think this is a good blade for self defense against intruders if guns are illegal?

    • @Wolf88888
      @Wolf88888 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally, I have it in my home for that very reason. I have many swords, and this one I keep by my bed. One thing this video doesn't really go into is the puncturing capability of this sword. I ran mine through a cardboard box the other day with so little effort it shocked me. Bear in mind, though, that a weapon like this is effective, or safe, in direct proportion to the skill of its user. A couple of other notes: For self-defense purposes, you might find the Cold Steel Gladius Machete to be a better option. Check it out. It draws faster, is significantly cheaper, more balanced, and is practically indestructible. In comparing the Honshu Spartan sword to an actual ancient Greek kopis, you see that the kopis had a sort of hooked section at the base of the handle in order to ensure that it did not slip from the hand of the person wielding it. Wave the Honshu around a few times and you will see why its historical inspiration had that additional necessary feature. In any case, a paracord lanyard is highly recommended.

    • @fit4knives882
      @fit4knives882  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only draw back to this blade is the sheath imo. It is a split sheath so its a bit slow on the draw because of the snaps that hold it in. If it were kept unsheathed and near you in a situation where you needed it I would say it would be very lethal indeed. Be careful though any miss swing could be very harmful to you. As John Bridges said a lanyard would be ideal. God forbid you ever need to use it for self defense but if you do this blade is a beast with a razors edge! Thanks for the comment and for watching my friend.

      I also bought it for self defense. Got cheap machete but it wouldn't stop someone as quick as this sword.

    • @christopherdean1326
      @christopherdean1326 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Any blade is only as good as the hand that wields it. Be honest with yourself, have you ever really fought with a blade like your life depended on it? Are you really sure you are going to be better than anyone that might attack you? I used to teach self defence in the Guardian Angels, one thing we would always stress, knife fights get very messy, very quickly, and a scalpel blade in the wrong place will kill you as quick as a katana. Best tip for surviving a knife fight?
      DON'T GET INTO ONE!
