As I understand it, Werner Herzog's intention with the film was not actually to talk about institutionalisation or other aspects of the treatment of disabled people. He simply used the setting that he ended up using because it will have been something that people were familiar with, and it was a convenient metaphor for what he wanted to portray. Specifially, he cast people of short stature in this film to represent humanity dealing with a world that has become too complex, too overwhelming for them. The analogy being that the institute, the physical structure that they lived in, was in fact too big compared to the people living in it. The overseers I guess represent the ruling class of society, the politicians and business leaders of the world in 1970. That's why even for the roles of the overseers, little people were cast, because they would need to basically look the same as the residents, but be in that separate role within the group, that position of power over others. It was definitely a bold move of him in 1970 to cast little people as actors but seems to have had the (guessing here) intended secondary effect of making people take notice of the film. But we are free to interpret and get inspired by his work in other ways too, so definitely not taking anything away from your video, Gabe!
I used to have anxiety. I don't really have it anymore-just normal nervousness. But I overcame it through exposure therapy. I have an old video about it here: th-cam.com/video/w3vSQuS-n7k/w-d-xo.html
The care situation when I no longer have my family? For the care situation, I'm fortunate enough to have a mom that has work to make sure that I would be taken care of when she's gone. I let her know that she shouldn't bank on me being able to get a partner, so she's made arrangements for me to have care when she and my brothers are gone.
Well said. There is another movie called a mile in a man shoe. It a good movie. An actor thst plays with autism. If you watch it,we understand there is only a small story compared to if anyone thst has Autism that could explain it. It was ok
Great commentary Gabe! Well done 👏
Thank you.
