Older vid, you may not see this comment.. But I listen to all of these while I’m working doing lawn care down here in Florida, and it makes my days go by easier. Thanks Buko
Uncle Larry. Ive saved this video and lsitened to this solo many many times. Idk what it is about it, its just magic. You have more soul in your playing than most people alive, this channel has truly been a hidden gem. Its weird its like in some tucked away corner of the internet people get the see somebody creating real, emotion filled art. Its like a candid video of some guy making beautiful graffiti. Just thanks man. Youre fuckin awesome.
Love this format: adding on the bass loop, dropping some Uncle Larry wisdom, expositing on the details of the loop (with plenty of sensei-level knowledge built in), then jamming out! I get so much out of this, and I know I have lots of company. Best thing in the world.
Hang in there. I went through that shit too. First few months including CatheterHell sucks, but you'll be fine in about a year and it will become a distant memory.
I live with chronic pain from a spinal injury when I was a young man. It is typically worse at night. These videos take my mind off if even if for a short time and help me get through it. So I am alway happy to see a new post….
Hey Tom, this comment will go back to near the beginnings of home skoolin. My wife and I are on vacation from Denton Tx. To Perdido Key Fl. When we first drove in to town we past a Publix and it all came back to me that Tom Said to get the White Mountain Bread. We did and man oh man did you ever deliver on that suggestion.. Thanks for the bread! And the best TH-cam entertainment! Keep it up, we will be watching.
This is exactly what we need Larry. Thank you and you will love this but prior to grilling and football my gal decided to break out the lemon pledge and "dust" all the furniture. Well you know what happened... Johnny walked on to those nicely waxed floors at half time and went down like Frazier, landing on the right picking thumb. Fun times but this one kept my spirits up and I found out you can actually hold a pick with the index and middle finger. Thanks again Larry
More proto punk please! That was awesome and few have shared their creativity over this ‘genre’. The conventional blues rock licks ain’t gonna cut the mustard. Mind sharing some songs/players in this style that you admire?
Uncle Larry, this is among the best things I’ve ever heard you do! From 10:00 until the end, that phrasing and solo were absolutely transcendent. Your playing was so compelling. The tone was just otherworldly as well. That particular SG has such a huge, airy quality-crazy overtones on that one. It’s pure magic! I think it’s the combination of those pickups and that ultra resonant body. As always, it’s the player, and you never cease to amaze. Upper echelon vintage gear doesn’t hurt though. Bravo!
Love the Fall and the Eagles. Born and raised in the N Delaware area, moved to SoFlorida ... 45 years (no seasonality). Just moved to the mountains of Western NC. Damn I love FALL. BTW ...nice improv aas per usual.
Man, I _really_ dug the music in this one! Again, you never cease to surprise me with the different musical stylings you can do and do so well. All that session work really does pay off in that regard. The first song sounded like it could've come from a "Best Of" Modest Mouse album! The second one also had some post punk vibes but was also super melodic. I couldn't help but hear all kind of vocal melodies in my head to go along with it.
Oh I missed you on an SG! Your burst is sent from heaven so never said anything about it before haha. Was smiling during the game last night thinking you won it back. You ‘lucky’ dawg!
I'm so glad you pulled out an SG. I've been reading Steve Rosen's book Tonechaser about EVH and it was mentioned how much thinner the body was on an SG. One of my friends in Tulsa had his SG stolen back in the late 70s. It really messed with his head. It was very similar to the color of the one you are playing (not insinuating anything! Just a real drag.). Now I have not only a visual of the guitar body but also your breathtaking playing on it! Thank you UL! 🎸
Used to play my buddies 59' just like that SG. He let me borrow his 61' Strat for a snowed in weekend. that was a real memory i'll never forget. That tune at the end was just sublime !
Hi Tom, Thanks for the great video. I am watching this HS lesson on a TV in the kitchen while my wife is at the sink dancing /making dinner to your impromptu song. Fantastic! You rock Uncle Larry!
Man! I wish I had a secret for my 64 SG’s lyre…feel like I’ve tried everything to get it to tune. Smooth string path bow to stern, stretched strings, even the little extra push down on the strings near the nut/bridge you mentioned a while back. Mine does not wanna cooperate 🤷🏻♂️
Lovely sounds as per, Tom. Guitar Sanctuary is a very posh shop. I'm sure I've seen your Session Man sig model in there. But the coolest thing about it for me is they have a sweet little venue attached next door. Just saw Andy Timmons there a few weeks back. Couldn't help but imagine how wonderful it would be to catch the Uncle Larry Show in there some day.
Uncle Larry, Another for the Plexi follow up. Great stuff and as has been said, love seeing you do the bass part over the rhythm and then soaring with the lead!
Watching uncle Larry navigate that solo off the cuff reminded me of watching my dad. About 19 beers deep, taking our old 72 impala from ditch to opposite ditch white nuckled. Standing on the brake pedal and never spilling a drip from his traveler. Grace under pressure, in the face of uncertainty. White knuckle uncle Larry
Damn that’s good…Ever Long-ish on steroids. So cool to see your talent and creativity never fail and always inspire. Not a bad gig, man. Thanks as always from one of your legions if happy Homeschoolers.✌️🤘🎶
try this sort of add 9? chord i stumbled on. like a stab jazz chord, 5 note chord, at 11th fret a-string, mute d-string, 11th fret g-string, 12th fret b-string, and 12th fret e-string. hit it hard and loud and let low e ring with it for a good ringing accent.
Hot damn ,Listen to that fuckin note separition, the man is a surgeon with that guitar there .keep on keepin on uncle Larry ,gosh were all really impressed down here i can tell you .
Haven’t chimed in for a bit, but your playing over that loop was so inspiring. This is improvised composition, no filler, all music. That’s my biggest lesson all these classes later, and it’s the most important thing I’ve learned. Thanks Tom!
love seeing the proverbial 'sausage' being made here Unc'. these behind-the-loops are some of the best insight into your amazing lil songs, and how you think and play in the moment when you're in building mode. thank you, as always.
First time around with the bass reminded me of Smashing Pumpkins. Anyone else got that? Anyway, just feckin' awesome. As per usual. Thanks, Uncle Larry!
Wow. The jam was fantastic! Really enjoy the more exotic chord structures. BTW. I am a Steeler fan from birth… PA born and bred living in N. Atlanta now. Would love to watch a game sometime… Steelers vs Browns.
Hey Larry this track is gold and your improvised parts are amazing! Hope you do something with this one. Would love to hear it in its full glory! Thanks for everything you do😊
This is soo inspiring and beautiful, love the quiet descending lines perfectly mixed in with the louder dynamics . I could picture parts of this being played on a piano. Thanks Uncle Larry for sharing it .
Like usual. totally inspirational. That is a nice SG.I too like the vibrolla thing..Much love and respect Tom. Thanks for always making me want to play guitar. Even if im never anywhere near your level of beauty. You always give me such a want to pick up my guitar..Thank you..truly.
Holy moly Uncle Larry, just when I think my eyebrows couldn’t raise any higher you flip them over to the back of my head. If I acquire just one tenth of your mastery of harmony then I’ll die a happy man - your amazing videos are helping me get there. Thank you brother.
An incredible knack for making stuff sound moving, familiar and yet completely fresh and surprising. Pure inspiration. When you gonna tour under your own name / Trip The Witch?
Man. Uncle Larry always puts me right where I need to be. Thanks Tom! You are the best. Now if the Browns could just win another game or two. All would be right with the world! Peace
Uncle Larry approved (and unconditionally guaranteed or your money cheerfully lost) My younger's been getting into poker fer pity sake... Yours are gonna grow up and then look out (!) I love it ...thank you for the music too
Hi, Tom: I'm a great fan and have huge appreciation for your channel--even though I'm mainly a sax player! (I do play guitar as well.) I have a question for you: I've watched most of your material in Homeskoolin'--probably missed something along the way, but I'll loop back and pick it up eventually--and I've never heard you mention some of my personal guitar heroes, notably the three Kings (BB, Albert, and Freddy), Elmore James, Hubert Sumlin, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Buddy Guy, Muddy, Lightnin' Hopkins, Johnny Winter, Jimmie Vaughn, etc. I totally get your aversion to "sports bar blues" and to the horde of Stevie Ray imitators (love SR but come on, people); but the players I have mentioned seem like bedrock to me. This may be generational: I'm 20 years older than you, and grew up in Mississippi listening to Stax and Chess. I also love a lot of what came later; I try to keep my ears open. But I'm just wondering about whether the players I've mentioned (haven't even brought up country blues: Charlie Patton surely is the great foundation stone, way more than the great Robert Johnson) are important to you. Somebody stop me; the list is very long. But how do you think about these folks? Again, huge gratitude for what you've done here, and what you're doing. PS: What you just played on this installment is absolutely killin'.
I'd love to hear about your learning process over the years .. since you picked up a guitar. Not a manifesto, but some key highlights. It always seems like you pull these great sounding guitar melodies out of the air somewhere, but there must be a story somewhere.
Ah.. a new lesson/episode on a beautiful NEO Autumn day... THANKS BUK. We guitar players suck so much less thanks to your offerings the past 2.5+ years... God Bless you Uncle Larry.

Football is gay.
I am recovering from prostate cancer surgery.
Tom listening to you is magical... Such talent. 👍

@@IvorThomas
Thanks for the incouragment. 👍
Same here: Had prostate surgery 5 months ago. Recovery is slow, but take heart, it's gets better.
“‘Til I run out of licks I’ll keep showing you stuff.”
Best thing I’ve heard in a minute
I’m recovering from surgery at the moment and listening to this takes my mind away from the pain. Thanks Tom. ❤️
a not thought of kind of analgesic but, ya, music can reduce pain a tad, and sometimes a tad is all you need. i totally get it.
Best wishes my man. Lots of fluids and patience. Dont rush recovery, i can tell you from experience that boredom is better than a set back.

Sweet Jesus, Uncle Larry - your ability to pull magic out of thin air astounds me every time I watch you.
It's priceless to have a virtual friend like uncle Larry to tune in to when the need arises!
Thanks Unc! 😊
This is exactly what we need Larry. Thank you and you will love this but prior to grilling and football my gal decided to break out the lemon pledge and "dust" all the furniture.

This gives off a bit of a Foo Fighters "Everlong" kind of vibe. Fantastic as always, Uncle Larry.
That's what i was thinking😎👍
I actually went back to the description to look for the Foo reference. Lol.
@@richardclark. I did the same after I posted my initial thoughts.

Hello, I waited here for you. Everlong. Sweet playing Lar.
Super sweet solo jam!

I love it. It kind of sounds like some overlooked Manchester band from back in the day of Manchester....
Sweet. Made me go grab mine and jam along.
Thanks bubba, from your neighbour up North. Keep being awesome.
beautiful sir.
Who can it be now...
been following you from that great black SG on rig rundown.
You are a big inspiration in so many ways
You’re an inspiration to us all Uncle Larry.
100 percent
Absolutely love that tune, Tom!!! 🙌
Uncle Larry, you never cease to amaze the class. That improv was epic. Thanks for all the videos. You’re a saint
Oh I missed you on an SG! Your burst is sent from heaven so never said anything about it before haha. Was smiling during the game last night thinking you won it back. You ‘lucky’ dawg!
I have watched every episode and what is weird is that I feel like I know you despite never meeting you. Your classes are inspiring!!!!
Thank you sir
Man that was vibing so hard, you're really in the zone today buk. Super enjoyable to listen to.
Thanks Uncle Larry, love the extraordinary licks, heck, the ordinary ones too! Play on... don't get hurt playing football either!!

Great comp at the end there Uncle Tom and yea, that SG is one awesome tone bomb, seems to fit your style there perfectly. Rock On!
Just got home from Bozeman with my Session Man Duesenberg. Amazing instrument Tom! Cheers!!
Next time someone asks about a wild new chord voicing I use, I can say "It's Uncle Larry Approved!" F#m+5 is gold, another ringing beauty. Thank you.

Love the groove on this, Uncle Larry! ❤
