Your story is so encouraging. I also failed math in grade 12. Studied a diploma is language practice and then later registered a higher certificate in accounting science and and now I am doing a diploma in accounting science... Long way to go but doing well
Thank you soooo much for sharing this. I recently recovered from a 2 year long injury & I'm still mentally recovering as well so my marks are terrible. I felt so demotivated before coming across this video considering the fact that whenever people talk about the struggles of their journey it usually involves them adding only a year into their studies & whatnot so that really made me feel like maybe I'm not intelligent enough to be a chartered accountant. I have a feeling that I may need to add an extra year to my undergrad because I didn't write well this semester. From today, I'll continue with my journey without feeling any shame while also working harder to recover mentally from my accident. I will eventually make it😊🤍💫. Thank you for sharing this❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤.
Hey Mpho I am so glad you feel better ❤️❤️. Remember to be kind to yourself it takes a while to recover from a traumatic experience and no one truly knows what you go through daily so be kind you are probably doing a lot more than you think. Try to refrain from comparing yourself to your peers you are on your own path and your path will quite differ significantly from others It will end in CA(SA), stay focused, if things don’t go well remind yourself of how far you have come and of the bigger picture. All the best 🙂
Wow this is so refreshing. I am one of those who gave up at some point. Also did my BCom at UKZN in 2010 first year and finished the degree but didn't continue. Final year showed me flames, have been too terrified to start CTA. Congratulations on your journey, keep inspiring
Hey, thank you 😊. If it’s something that you really want I’d say do it anyway terrified or not just try come up with a plan, set timelines and work. I told myself 2017/2018 that I’d do it once and put 110% effort and in the end if it didn’t workout I could at least say there was nothing I could have done better, so I literally lived for CTA at 1st it was impossible to imagine a pass, test after test my marks improved eventually I regained my confidence. So it’s okay to be terrified but do it anyway at least that’s how I roll 😃
I relate to your story so much. I was diagnosed with lung cancer during my first year of my bcom(general) degree. I tried my best with school and chemo but everything is taking longer than expected. I was suppose to be doing my advanced certificate in accounting sciences this year but i didn’t do well in taxation 3B so i have to register for that in order to get my degree. Im so exhausted i was even thinking of becoming a tax professional. You are motivating and scaring me at the same time lol. Thank you for sharing
Hey Thabile 🙂 I hope you know how resilient you are ❤️ and if you are content about becoming a CA I would say don’t stop pursuing that just yet you would be surprised by how well you can do.
Hey, I know it’s been 2 months since your comment. I hope you are doing great there. Do take rest when it’s needed and reach out to your tutors and lectures when you need help. Sending lots of love ❤️❤️❤️
Hi sis. Thank you for sharing your journey.❤️ Congratulations with all your achievements.❤️ I have a similar experience, I failed maths in high school, studied engineering in a private college hated it but I did it bc I didn’t want to stay at home. I’ve always wanted to be a ca. even though I didn’t do accounting In high school, I’ve always wanted to become a ca. I didn’t get to choose my subjects In high school, my mother was sick and I was just confused about everything, including school & so my aunt chose subjects for me. (Science.) I didn’t pass maths (29%) physics (37%) so it was decided that I study at a private college bc no university would accept me. As I said before , I studied electrical engineering, but hated the course , I still do. I’m in desperate need of advice. My college offers a “financial management “ course I was wondering if I should go for it, and then finish my N4, and apply at a university & further my diploma into a degree(if possible )I just need someone to guide me.
Hey thank you for stopping by 🙂 and I hope your mom is now okay. Can you please connect on LinkedIn and send me a text if you don’t have LinkedIn let me know and I will try type out everything here 🙂.
Hey im also in the same situation as you but i have already enrolled from another degree and i want to upgrade my maths to meet the requirements for bcom accounting , the worse part im already a second year to the course im doing , im worried about funding but i want to change .
Hey Likhona, I suggest you check if you can switch degrees within the same institution if not look into other universities if you can use your current degree to get to BCOM that’s how I was accepted at UoFS I used my diploma to apply. All the best for your studies ❤️
wow your story is so Inspiring my heart is touched and im so inspired . If Possible I would like your asistance if you can. I completed my Diploma in Accounting and Advanced Diploma in Accounting but i did not meet the requirements for honors due to Taxation mark was very low. I applied at UNISA for CTA 1 and Bachelor of Financial Accounting Science and my application was accepted I have 10days to accept one of the offer. I would like to know how do i apply for credits , if i want to pursue an Bachelor of financial Accounting in 2yrs or i will be credited automatically
Hey I’m glad you found my story inspiring 🙂 thanks for watching ❤️. During the registration process there will be an option to apply for credits. They don’t automatically give you but it’s an easy process.
My sister i have diploma, 38% maths and 22 aps, so should i apply for higher certificate/ diploma and which universities cause I've been researching but can't get exactly the right answer please help me🙏
Hey I don't know if you ever got helped but you can apply for a Higher Certificate in Accounting Sciences at Unisa then after completing your HC you will qualify to do your degree😊 all the best.

Girl I'm at unisa currently doing bcompt ..I was considering going to UJ coz people say unisa graduates don't get hired😭😭should I just continue wath UNISA?
I am a UNISA graduate and I have never struggled to get a job. I don’t know the stats of unemployment rate per institution all I know is my qualification is as good as any institution. Companies will always have preferences in who they want but that does not invalidate other institutions. If I was in your shoes I would consider pros and cons of changing and if UNISA is not your cup of tea then change. BCOMPT is regulated by SAICA so if UNISA still has the accreditation I wouldn’t change because of unemployment stories. All the best!
I don't know why ppl look down upon unisa. It's so discouraging but I always say if SAICA still aproves we good to go @ the end we all write SAICA exams 💁
Others can help with this but l think the first few years are about getting the theory and mastering it. Then with time the theories become more complex and as such. When you get to the higher levels, theory not really so much an important thing. It is the application and judgements. What l mean is at first exams could focus on testing whether you know a theory or distinguishing between them. At higher levels it is assumed that you have mastered them and thus the application becomes the key focus. So you will find depending on your level exams now put you in a work situation, you are given a role whether as an auditor or accountant and it may be to either review the work done by a junior, to plan for an assignment, to complete the work for an assignment. In other instances you may be asked to advise senior or junior colleagues or examine the books or complete the work of someone who either is not sure about some of the accounting or has done it wrong. So you need to really know your theory, so you can detect problems and then advise on problems and then show the proper application. Mind you at higher levels, there is a lot of judgement and the matters are either not clear at first glance or they are bordering on being one or the other. Sometimes you may need to say why you think this is the best course of acton from a range of options. Furthermore you may need to demonstrate you have understand the scenario well.. There are times when you may have a good answer but it does not fit the client or the organisation or would be too impractical to do. That is another example of application. At times you may be faced with an unusual transaction which you may have never covered in your books, you must then use your judgement and understanding of relevent theory to indicate how this is handled.

Yes you can go straight to level 2. Requirements now are 55% of your third year modules and degree not older than 3 years
