That's a fair point, but on the other hand, the Dophins are going pretty well (so far) with the team they have - and having failed to land all the big marquee players they've gone after. The disparity of talent (Playing and coaching) between the NRL teams is the problem not the cap. There are also geographical issues at play too, no offense to Canberrans but moving there is not all that an attractive proposition for players I would think. Penrith suffered from that very issue until they realised that rather than coaxing players to move from beachside teams they'd be better off growing their own players. Now, not every team can do that, they just don't have the juniors. The fact players will take less money from top ranked teams is just smart on the player's part. More fun winning than losing but being slightly better off financially. Lower teams need to stop paying overs for average talent as well. It doesn't work. A draft of young players coming in, over time, will help redress the imbalance.

You are so right, if he was on $900k a year with raiders for the last couple years well he has earned 10 years of a average Australians salary in just 1 year. If he was smart with his money, he would have himself and his family set up for life already. People say they have to take as much as they can because it’s a short career but realistically some of these good players earn in a 10 year career what people wouldn’t earn for their entire life plus more. So, I player that would cost the Raiders/Dolphins $1,300,000 a season will only cost Souths $700k. There's no hope anymore for the middle-low table teams, we simply cannot compete. The NRL needs to find a way to tier the salary cap based on ladder positions (or something similar).
That's a fair point, but on the other hand, the Dophins are going pretty well (so far) with the team they have - and having failed to land all the big marquee players they've gone after. It could be that Money Ball is the way to go. Hiring for analytics and stats rather than reputations. Wighton is not helping Canberra out of their funk, and they're an established team.

The disparity of talent (Playing and coaching) between the NRL teams is the problem not the cap. There are also geographical issues at play too, no offense to Canberrans but moving there is not all that an attractive proposition for players I would think. Penrith suffered from that very issue until they realised that rather than coaxing players to move from beachside teams they'd be better off growing their own players. Now, not every team can do that, they just don't have the juniors. The fact players will take less money from top ranked teams is just smart on the player's part. More fun winning than losing but being slightly better off financially. Lower teams need to stop paying overs for average talent as well. It doesn't work. A draft of young players coming in, over time, will help redress the imbalance.

I'm not entirely sure what it is that Kenty's upset about. A lot of players would dream to play for a historic, foundation club like Souths and like the other boys on the Panel have said Jack's already made plenty of dough so taking a pay cut to play for a more competitive, front running, historic team isn't the end of the world by any means.
Hate to see him leave but it's his call. However, if Souths are violating the salary cap with illegal payments then you drop the hammer on them. If the deal is legal then it's down to Wighton making a choice on where he plays which is his right.
