Quite a project you have there, but it is a beautiful Mach 1...take your time and enjoy ....just keep us posted, really looking forward to following this
Thanks. I haven't had the time to get to work on her that I'd like. I will post videos as my time allows. I have an updated video in the works. Hope to get it posted in the next week or so. Not much progress to see, but I feel an update is needed.
That's a great project. Getting it roadworthy is definitely the first thing to do, and then take on the bodywork after you've had time to enjoy driving it. Paint it yourself for sure. There are to many trailer queens out there.
That's a nice find. It's definitely worth saving. I just picked up a 1969 Mustang sport roof. looking forward to working on it this summer. I've had a 65 mustang coupe for awhile also. there's a channel on youtube that I watch called "Jo Daddy's garage". He restores mostly mustangs and does a great job explaining things. 65 to 70 mustang are built pretty much the same underneath the fenders.
Gulf Stream aqua I believe..one year only 69 color from Ford...with white interior is a beautiful car for sure. Keep it original. Try not to use anymore aftermarket stuff than you have to. Check out eBay and Craigslist for original parts. They are worth the extra money for the FIT alone. Save the hood if you can and find some useable original fenders and your door gaps and lines will be 👌 if it’s not a numbers matching car you could prob stick a top loader 4 speed it (traction lok rear too) and put some heads and a cam in that engine and have a fun street car. Best aftermarket parts will be from NPD..mustangs unlimited IMO
Yes, it's an H code 3 speed manual. I haven't confirmed if it's numbers matching, but I would be surprised if it wasn't. Thanks for the advice/info. She's going to be a lot of work, but will be beautiful when she's done.
Peterson Restorations on TH-cam does these mustang and a great resource for fixing this one. Dynacorn make some awesome replacement parts! Looking forward to this build
Wow ,exciting project, ,not for the faint hearted though,,,8k seems expensive? I've seen roadworthy mustangs selling here in the UK for that amount, couldn't say the models though ,,,good luck Tom,,I, m in for the ride 😎.
The price for that car in this area was actually on the cheaper side. Plus, other factors impact the value, such as one owner car, all original. confirmed Mach 1, etc... It's going to be a long project. I'm glad you are in for the ride, but it's going to be a slow ride.
I did a little research and the wooden nickels are from Frontierland in Walt Disney World. I grew up in Syracuse and we spent many summers camping in the Adirondacks. I've been to Lake George many times.
Nice score... You DROVE that car knowing there was nothing in the brake system but rust and dust??? I did notice that you had all the rest of your cars cleared away! I had a '69 Mach 1 back in the '80's (robins egg blue/black 351 4V/4spd.) I wouldn't mind having it now but I don't regret getting rid of it. I was the 2nd owner, original owner's wife wasn't kind to it...
I think it night have had a respray at some point. It is a true Mach 1, I have the Marty report to validate it. And the original issued title from 1969.
@@OakHollowGarage cool I have a 69 Mach 1 also I'm 3rd owner 123K original miles 351W 4 barrell almost rust free, unibody is cleaned and sealed brakes and suspension rebuilt working on engins and trans now Acapulco blue but will need paint. Good luck with yours
I've considered getting a fully dynacorn body for it. The labor involved in repairing the car could be cost prohibitive vs. just buying a full body replacement. How does that work with VINs? It can't be a big deal, I suppose.
@@OakHollowGarage it varies from state-to-state. But although it may not be 100% correct I just swapped the VIN number. It has been done far more often than you'd think
@@turbomustang8417 I supposed it's kind of a gray area. It's certainly illegal to swap a vin from one car to another that has a vin. But this is just a very radical sheet metal replacement... I'm going to get in to the car and see, but if the cancer is over the top, I will definitely make the investment in to the full body. Have you stumbled on to a channel called Peterson Restorations? That guy is seriously inspirational. He is currently building a nearly full body replacement with all of the individual parts. Kinda the Ikea version of automotive restoration. th-cam.com/channels/G-IsvXgmiBXavN03_C-PNA.html
A dynacorn body is a dead giveaway for any real vintage mustang enthusiast IMO. They are however really convenient if you want to build a new 5.0 restomod for instance. There will be dated sheet metal stampings in at least a dozen places I can think of on the original car (Bare shell). Most full dynacorn bodies start around 15k or higher if I recall. So they aren’t exactly cheap either but you will have a perfect rust free body.
I love 69 Mach ones I have a 1970 Mach 1 I've had since 1973. But trust me that car has a lot of Tin termites. Be prepared for a lot of metal replacement parts.
I know! Luckily they are very popular cars. Literally every part is reproduced. You can even buy a complete shell. It's pricey, but cheaper than labor for a very rusted car.
For the rust on the rear panels, roof, frame, and etc... how do you repair those? I assume you have to cut it out and weld new sheet metal. How do you form the sheet metal? Also, what will your strategy be for the rust around the driver side door frame?
Yes, any rust that is through the metal needs to be cut out and new metal welded in. Every piece of metal on that car can be purchased already formed to shape. As for the door jamb, in not sure what the plan is. Probably won't know until I cut it away and get a better look at the extent of rust.
@@OakHollowGarage A complete quarter panel will solve the outside metal including the door jamb but the problem will be the wheel houses & everywhere else the quarter panel is welded to! So you will have a lot of metal work to do! This car has rust in all the usual places and some you don't see that often!
I have 2 of these 69 mach and 70 fastback ,And quite a few musclecars ,From my view you overpaid for the condition ,Did you mention the frame rails and Torque boxes?? You have more work than you realize trust me!!! You have rust in places that shouldn't have rust , I hope you have nothing but luck with this beauty It's definitely worth restoring Good luck
That's a tough one for me. It's an all original one owner car. I hate to mess with that. But a resto mod would be cool. Maybe I will do that to my '46 Ford sedan instead.
I’ve owned my ‘70 Grabber Blue Mach 1 for 37 years. It’s pretty much correct according to the Marti Report with the “M” code 351 Cleveland, 4-V and the factory Shaker Scoop Ram Air System. Trailer queens are fine for the wine and cheese crowd but I feel like a owner can do anything he choses to do. Many disagree and I fully understand the reasons why. I’m about to install a extensively modified Pro Stock type Cleveland in mine featuring vintage high port exhaust conversion heads with everything required to support that level of power. Drag strip fun for sure. If the 351 Windsor in yours is the original engine, you should consider keeping it to retain the collectors value and appeal. Or not 😉
Too bad there is hardly any 69 Mach 1 Left ! Lets hope this car was free !? Complete restoration ( if even possible) will cost a small fortune ! You might spend less just buying a new Dynacorn body ! It may not be worth it for an H code car...
hello sir my name is Karan and I am from india. I'm 15 years old . I want to build my own car. My design is ready.the design is like a muscle car.dual exhaust ,v8 engine, four barrel carb. I like to think of myself as an optimist and I really like to see cars and original parts/panels recycled and reused but this PIECE OF SHIT is way beyond anything more than the very few parts it has that can be saved UNLESS you have a lot of time and knowledge and tools and garage to do the MASS MAJORITY of the work yourself to save EVERY DIME!!!.. Beside the color, the car was unspectacular WHEN NEW with plain Jane options.(like none) a WHITE interior that few people care for now (but more popular in '69) and a pretty WEAK 351 WINDSOR!!!.. You can certainly rebuild a Windsor to, basically, resemble internally a Cleveland with really decent horsepower/torque but why??..I wish you only the best of luck and you certainly have some balls but you may be in over your head...That car would give me nightmares and a lot of headaches FOR SURE!!..Thanks for the vid!!!
Excuse my opinion, but I just don't think this car is worth 8k even if it is an original Mach 1 because of how bad of a condition it is in. You'll be shelling out more money to restore this beauty, sorry to say. I paid 35k for a completely restored top to bottom 1970 fastback, rust free. Original body and motor, however the motor was pulled by PO, professionally rebuilt, ported, polished and stroked to 347. Which was a plus in my book. Anyways, I wish you the best of luck in what you plan to do. If it were me, I'd scrap that body for what it's worth and purchase a new shell. Clean up the engine yourself and you'll have a beautiful running Pony for around 25k.This is after the paint and whatever else is tended to.
It's not about the profit for me. I enjoy the work involved. I bought a fully restored corvair about two years ago and was so bored that there wasn't anything to do with it that I sold it for the mustang. Like I said, I enjoy the work. I realize I will lose money on this car, but I just don't care.
Oak Hollow Garage well I’ll enjoy watching your journey on the build. I just got a 69 Mustang on the road that had been sitting a few years. No body work but basically pulled all the steering and suspension along with brakes and rebuilt everything.
Sounds like fun, but not this car. I just can't do that to an all original, numbers matching, one previous owner car. It still has the original title. Like from 1969. It's so cool.
