    Excellent seeing another Newport rescued from the brink. Criminally unsung model when it comes to a restoration choice. Mine is in "hibernation" as I gird myself to do all the suspension, and everyone asking why they haven't seen it driving around lately.

    joe, youve done a great job on this big c-body. I have a 1966 chrysler 300 when purchased, was in the condition like yours. I havent done the extensive work you have, but watching your videos, im ready for some updating. I bought mine off of a motor guy, which he cleaned and resealed the original motor, and 10 years later, no complaints. Great auto man.

    • @ric0000
      @ric0000  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@19CD91 if your engine produces enough vacuum - yes. A stock engine, or a mildly modified engine like the 440 in my 300 creates a good amount of engine vacuum. Joe's 383 engine in this Newport has more aggressive modifications (hot street cam) so it does not really produce enough vacuum to really clap hard on the disc brakes. don't get me wrong it stops, but you have to give the pedal a good squeeze.

    Reminds me of the stories my Uncle told me about the fun he had messing around with my Grandfather's 67 Plymouth Fury III with the 383 in it. He said that's the car he learned how to do J-turns, power slides, burn outs in when he was growing up. He said it wasn't as much fun when the Newports and that line of cars got bigger and my Grandfather replaced the 67 Fury with a 71 NewPort which was much bigger and heavier.

      Insightful comments! I like our educated audience! Joe put it together with what he had available. I know he wanted to do headers, but he had to draw the line on the budget somewhere. I think you and Joe are on the same page with the converter, a higher stall is needed. I will take these into consideration while finishing up my 440 build. Thank you for watching!

      Hey Ric0000! I´m late to respond, but the original HP manifolds are highly demanded by original-liking Mopar nuts and especially so by C-body hobbyists, if the manifolds are coded to the big models. That said, I really recommend that Joe will keep them on the 383 in the Newport. Just my two cents.

    One more question, between the 383 build and the 440 build Ive seen you choose the Hughes Mild street cam and the Hughes Whiplash cam. What it your preference between the 2 and why? Starting out on a well used 66 300 with the 383 installed and starting to make some decisions now. Body is super straight which is impressive for the age of the car and all the original parts are there so this should be fun. The interior is too tired and the headliner is torn and sagging (being held up my magnets currently, kinda smart quick patch) so I will refresh it but over all is in good shape.

    Another great video Joe and ric0000! Only a few of us out here can truly appreciate the mid to late 60's Chrysler. Inspired to all get out! Can you check with Joe to see if I added Hughes Whiplash Camshaft to my fresh stock re-build of which has MAYBE 200 miles; 1) is it possible to do with the motor in the car 2) Will I see/feel any gains 3) Will the TransGo Shift Kit work on the Torque flight 727? 4) Where can I find a sure-grip?
    Thanks for sharing your build! This video was awesome.

      Ian Morado sorry for the delay
      But yes the cam can be installed without removing the motor. The engine will probably loose some low end power, however this thing screams when the RPMS are above 3000-3500. Ran a 9.33 in the 1/8 mile with 3.91 gears and the 225/75/15 tire. Stock converter. 60' time was garbage 2.3 seconds if I recall...lol the trans go shift kit is for the 727. As far as a sure grip. It's some research to find them used and in good shape. However you can buy them new just $$$
