Have you ever wondered how someone who carries at appendix uses the restroom? Maybe you EDC at appendix and struggle to use the bathroom and need some tips... Either way this is my appendix carry guide on how to handle having to pee or poop while packing heat. Funny but truthful story . My dad was and his partner were in the CID of the US Army back in the 1950's and they were issued either a Colt 45 or snub-nosed 38 and both carried a 45 . His partner was taking a dump and placed his 45 on the clothes hook on the door with the barrel pointed up . They carried it cocked and locked but unfortunately he did not have the slide safety engaged so when he grabbed his 45 and lifted up , the hook hit the trigger and bang . And the gun fired 2 more times before he could get the 45 off the hook . When everyone rushed into the bathroom to see what had happened the guy opens the stall door and with fragments of ceiling tile floating in the air , and with gun in hand mutters , crap . Needless to say he had to endure numerous kidding and received a rather unfaltering nickname after the incident , but a very valuable lesson was learned .

Great info. DCC clips are the key for sure. They grip better than anything. When first carrying, I once dropped my Glock 43 out of a sticky holster and it slide under the stall and out into the middle of a public bathroom at a kids sporting event. Luckily it happened when nobody else was in the bathroom. It was also not chambered as I (rightly) wasn’t that confident back then.
This happened to a guy in the stall next to me in a public restroom, except it slid into my foot at the urinal. It was a G19, I kinda just stared at it for a second, but after an awkward silence I slid it back over and said “thanks but I have this one already”. The guy just started laughing and apologized.
I’ve heard a lot of stories like this. Seems to happen pretty often, lol! I would imagine it’s a mistake that only happens once, though. 😬

I live in NJ so they only recently allowed us to feel like a real 2A state and allow us to carry and this topic did not cross my mind. Good ideas. I will have to remember these when I get certified to carry.

Great video! First, I have no desire to carry appendix style with any firearm much less a full sized firearm. I am not walking down the streets of Beirut where I need to carry a full sized weapon for protection. I’ve tried IWB holsters and I just cannot deal with the weapon pressing against my skin. Hurts too much when bending over, etc. OWB is my preferred carry method. I tote either my J-frame or a Glock 43. I carry plenty of spare mags or speed strips with me. Five rounds of 357 magnum in your face is enough for any small time bad guy to cease and run. I’m not on the front line like an LEO, otherwise I would carry a large capacity pew pew shooter. So, using a public restroom for a number 1 or 2 is not as harrowing!

I feel it. I will wait 6+ hours to piss if I have to. Sucks but no risk of a floppy gun in a public bathroom. I wear cheap ass thin pants too so typically they will not support the weight at all once they're unbuttoned, when I do piss Im awkwardly holding it with my off hand and trying to casually support the gun with my dominate :'D I play it off like im resting on my hip. I dont think it works.

I have a similar holster for a micro.
I move the 1 clip over to the outside of the first belt loop.
Also use an infinitely adjustable belt. I may use a combo of your duce technique, and a open barn door if not using bigger jeans.
I normally use my regular size or a smidgen above.

My girlfriend started carrying a few months ago. I told her using the restroom in public was the biggest PITA while carrying. She quickly agreed with me ;-)
This is what I do:
Just pissing: walk up to the urinal, put gun & mag on top of urinal. unzip & let the waterfall flow.
Pooping: gun gun on top of toilet paper holder, pocket of coat (if hung on coat hanger), proceed as normal.
Baby changing stations are AWESOME if it's a single person bathroom or if they're in the stall.

I'm new to CC and I find appendix carry is the most comfiest out of all position, I had to use the bathroom one time in public and I had to do the method shown in @2:30 before even watching this video. My edc has a tactical flashlight on it but it works.

How about choosing a pants design that better facilitates functionality in this regard? The first thing I noticed was the tight designer jeans that seemed to restrict access and presentation (the choice of words in the video was marvelous). I would choose Ball Room Jeans from Duluth Trading Post, having more zipper length in most cases.
I wear jeans that get me laid 🤣

And this is why i only carry front pocket. It has some downside too, like firearm choice and capacity, but i dont need to be nearly as stealth when visiting the pooper

Switching to appendix carry because the full size on the side is giving me back problems. Same thing happened with my wallet bifold in the back pocket. Have the wallet in the front with a money clip now. Solved a lot my problems.

I’m with you brother…1:30 is comfortable with my p365xl; would be even more so with a p365x.
And I’m just never going to get to the point I can carry a gun in my crotch.
A lesson I learned:
I carry appendix at the 1:30 position (as opposed to crotch carry). I attach my single clip IWB holster behind my fist bel loop.
As such, I have no issues at the urinal or when dropping my pants (as the holster stays secure when I simply insure the rig doesn’t flop forward)
HOWEVER: On one pair of my pants, the belt loop positions are a bit wider in the front - meaning the 1:30 carry position became a 2:00 position; and I found it uncomfortable. So, I moved the clip forward of the belt loop. The first time I undid my belt to take a seat…the holster slipped OFF the end of my Kore belt and the whole rig hit the floor.
Be careful out there folks!
Hopefully your advice will save someone else from having to incinerate their rig 😂👍

Those are some good “tips” on how to urinate with a side car style rig. I went back to using a separate holster and mag pouch (Tenicor) and my public bathroom routine is much easier now. The split time it takes to fish through the zipper hole wasn’t worth the “head”-ache or accidental discharges.

I love the choice of words in this video - good fodder for a stand-up comic! In the spirit of puns, I take issue with describing IWB with the load being on your centerline, basically under the belt buckle area. Instead of calling this appendix carry IWB, I prefer to use the term "navel carry", as being right under your navel. 😆

Good stuff! My Vedder holster allows me to flip out the pants, pistol on the right, separate mag on the left, and they hold on tight, but only in a private stall. Urinals are still a challenge because I've gained weight and my pants are tight. Need to get some fat pants for when my weight fluctuates.

i never found appendix carry comfortable though, especially for sitting; i like doing the shoulder holster under arm about at my lower ribs on the side, and right side hip carry.

I drop undo my belt, unbutton and drop my drawers, let my pants down to my knees and redo the belt at the first notch. Use the knees to prevent the belt from sliding down. Gun is high enough not to be spotted through the stall doors or under the stall.

Necessary video. Side &/or 4 o'clock carry mostly here... hate it when gun falls into the toilet! But seriously, for ya'll's consdieration... 1) can add a clip so the belt wont slide away from the opposite side when uncoupling, and 2) can switch to retention holster it you don't employ such already. Pants with a deeper seat and longer zipper allow me to go straight down rather than under the holster and up over where the zipper ends. Wranglers are typically good for this method.

I have a cobra belt that clips like a seatbelt in the center. If it's a sidecar style holster I'll take off the left clip and open the belt and have my gun sit on my thigh while the right clip holds it up. Then it's just like any other time to pee. For poops you could do what nightwood does or just take off the gun completely and put it on the handicap rail like I do lol.

I have my gun on a seperate belt underneath my pants, so when at a urinal i can unbutton and unzip, literally slide the gun to the side and do my thing.
When in a stall, if i so choose, i can either keep it where it was originally, or unclip the whole thing.
I do something similar when carrying with the Phlster Enigma 👍
