  • Check out the fuse in the generator. If you know why it's there I sure would like to know. Can't wait to try out the alternator but have to wait until I put the manifold back on the car.

I seem to recall an adjustment to the brushes in the generator, accessible to the operator, that changes the voltage output to compensate for 6V battery overcharging and maintaining the additional load for night illumination. Maybe that generator has brushes set for minimal output which would help explain why the voltage readings are so low. Worth exploring with a bench test of the original gen?

Hello Dick, you are correct, moving the third brush can change the amount of charge the generator will put out. I did move the brush in both directions, as close to the other brush as possible and away from the brush and there was not difference showing on the amp meter on the dash. I think the fuse has something to do with it but I am just guessing. I am hoping someone out there will know what the fuses function is, I have never heard nor seen this setup before. I appreciate your input, thank you. Blessings

Hey great channel, I'm wondering what is done for the starter motor for 12v operation? Im going to check out your channel to see if you covered that yet. Thanks

Hi Tonyfixer, no I'm sticking to 6v. I have never had a problem with a 6v system. I am sure you can find a bunch of videos on the subject. There are lots of people who swear by a 12v system. To each his own. Blessings
