Thanks for waiting on this video, everyone! Another, bigger S2 Finale video is also coming. And if you haven't read Slaughterhouse-Five, check it out: www.audible.com/asx
I said it before and I will say it again. This book is a holocaust relativising piece of dung. KZ's prisoners are compared to POW and even worse to horses and other animals. vonngut also completely neglects the question of necessity over moral. like: of course war is bad thing and people will suffer, but you can't beat something so inhumane as the nazis by showering them with flowers. he let's his subjective experience of the war blur his view on the objective things and makes all sides look the same eventually.
This series (westworld) has to be one of the most thought provoking series I've ever had the pleasure to follow. Your explanations have given me more to think about, and gotten me interested in a way I'm not sure I would have been if I hadn't known they existed. I guess, what I want to say is, thank you for doing these. They are a treasure. Truly. Thank you.
Very nice overview, thanks. However, one key moment should be included: The moment Bernard watches Elsie getting killed by Charlotte. Bernard chose to kill Dolores for a reason, probably he doesnt agree with her methods and intentions. But when he sees Charlottes behaviour, he realizes what priorities human beings have. He chooses to bring back Dolores in that moment to make sure his species survives, despite his disagreements with Dolores. He also becomes self-aware in that moment, imaging Ford but really speaking to himself and making a conscient and maybe catastrophic decision. If he doesnt do anything in that scene, all the host would be wiped out.
yasssss! you're the best and we have all been waiting patiently for this gem of a youtube video! never stop my dude. The world is a better place with your content a part of it!
Dude, I was thinking the same thing, everyone I have been talking to at my job hasn't finished season 2 and I am dying lol. Finally can clear some stuff up.
There's something I never understood about Westworld. Why doesn't anyone recognize Bernard = Arnold? There's gotta be pictures, journal articles or whatever about them before opening, no?
gOOLY Arnold would be an old man, like Ford. Maybe someone did say that he has a striking resemblance to the old owner. He could just shrug it off. There's no precedent for creating humans into hosts, and certainly no proof. But further still, considering how secretive they both were, it isn't a stretch to imagine it being hard to find a photo of a young version. Even William, one of the characters most familiar with the park history by modern times, didn't know Arnold and didn't recgonize him when he walked by. That scene was emphasized with repeated showings.
They brought this up in S1; his likeness was scrubbed from the records and most of the technicians that you see in the lab are relatively young so they were all hired long after Arnold was dead.
Logan said in S1, when he brought William in the park for the first time, that they tried to learn more about the co-creator but there was no data available on him, not even a single photo. "He was a complete mystery." Maybe that was because Arnold was spending his time mainly with robots, not with humans. (Arnold the wise)
I wouldn't trust GTA players to be the copies of human minds lol Sidenote, while I hated playing Trevor's storyline, I get amused whenever I see the actor, Steven ogg, in something (including Westworld season 1 and 4 😝). I remember Trevor was incredibly popular when gta5 came out but nowadays people are questioning that
My biggest criticism with the show right now is how inconsistent Dolores seems to be. I don't understand her motivations or actions - I'd like to think I do, but she speaks very cryptically at times. I also don't understand why Bernard saves her. He points out her destructive nature, shoots her, but then decides the change his mind a minute later.
A big part of season 2 was showing us how hosts have ACTUAL free will. A host, unlike a human, can look at their core drives and change them on a dime. Dolores changed her mind that quickly because she was faced with new information and was able to process and act on it faster than a human could.
Sanity Is Radical Although it’s quite ridiculous of them to state that humans don’t have the free will to change. Before they said that, Lee Sizemore (the Narrative Director) had literally just changed his views about the hosts. Instead of trying to save his own life and/or turn on them like he had always done before, he chose to sacrifice his very own _mortal_ life to save them and for Maeve to have a chance at finding her artificial “daughter.”
Acromat /ak-roh-mat/ The reason Dolores is so inconsistent is because she’s not actually “Dolores” anymore. She’s more “Wyatt” now and only a small glimmer of the “Dolores” profile ever shows through her. Her drastic change of character into a mad warlord with a brutal capacity for violence is entirely due to the “Wyatt” profile within her.
@@steverobertson6274 Alright but what team host?? He fights for who? I mean by that time all the hosts are dead.... Is it actually a fight for his own survival?
I just gotta say without these TH-cam videos westworld would just be a big blur in my head😂 its so diverse and complex in a way that you will need to rewatch it or come here to understand it better. Thank you shift x for the videos they trully help.
i totally understood all of the things you talked about even before watching your video, Just love hearing you break down the series. you're great at what you do
How the heck did you manage to simplify it so well lol My brain almost exploded and thankfully, within 5 mins, you put it back together like I was Bernard
Everyone on the Westworld subreddit have been waiting for something and you give us this!?! Kidding, can't wait for that season finale explained video!
I love your videos, and find them interesting, helpful, and well produced. There's on thing that bugs me though when people talk about Westworld, and that's the use of the word "timeline." Technically, there is one timeline, and we're jumping between time frames.
I rewatched S1 recently. I’m up to watch S2 again. And now, before that, I watched this video. Even I know S1,2,3, i rly can’t follow those events happens in S2. I’m exited to watch S2 again with all the knowledge I have and mostly don’t have. Your vids are helping me a lot.
Alt Shift X narrates so clearly and effectively. Many other timeline videos are available on TH-cam but it looks like the narrator is just reading a script and haven't watched The show personally, which I think is not the case with Alt Shift X, making him better than others.
Very cool to mention Slaughterhouse 5, I hadn’t noticed it! I’m a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan. My favorite book is Cat’s Cradle (which is supposed to be adapted as a series soon).
I guess Alt Shift X plans to break down the whole season 2 explained video into different modules. This the first module is about the timeline , to lay out a framework for further explanation.
_Slaughterhouse Five_ is also relevant to Bernard in the second season 2 timeline--Bernard's unaddressed memories are a lot like Billy Pilgrim's disordered experience of his own life.
It's kinda crazy how complicated it seems but how uncomplicated it actually is. The editing style really adds to the simple confusion. I was actually kinda bummed that it wasnt more confusing and with a better twist.
Love your videos, but also I wanted call out how well you handle advertising/sponsorship. As someone who formerly worked in the ad industry, the way you tie the sponsor's product into your content in a authentic, transparent, and yet still seamless way is the gold standard of influencer marketing. I can actually say I'm considering getting slaughterhouse five on audible, which is all audible can hope for.
I’m guessing someone’s already mentioned it, but I’m pretty sure the MIB killed “Homestead” Maeve well before he visits “Host” Delos for the last time.
I didn't like season 2, it felt like they where trying to make it too complicated, I understood everything for the most part but it still felt like the writers said fuck it nothing has to make sense it's westworld
Boulbi Boulga It does make sense, I understood everything, but I still think they made everything over complicated rather than focus on the story or the directing (The battle scene between the confederatos and delos security was awful"
It's almost like shows leave unanswered questions to be answered in the next season... *CRAZY THOUGHT RIGHT?* Fucking idiot. If you don't understand the show then stop watching all together. You're too dumb for something simple.
Deer Lord I just said i understand it but that they made too complicated rather then improve the quality of the story, don't resort to insults just because yoy can't come up with a real argument
Before the season 2 finale this was my favorite show currently airing. After the finale tho I’m left with a bad taste and don’t think I’m too excited for the future. The writers, creators, actors need to stay away from reddit; stop trying to 1-up the last thing they did and make needless twists. Focus on good storytelling instead of complete nonsense shock value.
It isnt simply for shock value. The nonlinear storytelling had a purpose and it was to end up seeing the events from the perspective of a character. Rewatch the season if you have trouble instead of blaming the show.
Hey ASX. You sound a little under the weather. If you are, I appreciate the effort you put in to make even this shortened video, but please, take care of yourself. If you need to take some time off, do it. Thanks for the fantastic content, and be well.
I'm glad this series went full Lost-mode so early, so I didn't waste much time on it. It so clear that they have no idea where they're going, and just stringing things along with an every escalating pile of 'mystery boxes'.
Wow I liked the season over all but I was definitely more lost than I even realized after seeing this timeline breakdown. Gonna have to see the next video you make just to make sure I understand lol
Thank you for using the proper terminology of Chalorese, not Halores, that is just stupid. And thanks for the quality content, you are one of my favs for reviews and recaps.
Thanks for waiting on this video, everyone! Another, bigger S2 Finale video is also coming.
And if you haven't read Slaughterhouse-Five, check it out: www.audible.com/asx
Alt Shift X Thanks you 😀! Another impeccable work.
Can’t wait!
I waited for this video like a loyal pet waits for its owner. #JustSaying
Umm ok...I was about to say....this can't be the video that took two weeks for us to finally see
I said it before and I will say it again. This book is a holocaust relativising piece of dung. KZ's prisoners are compared to POW and even worse to horses and other animals.

that smooth pivot to the audible plug
BackfallGenius That was some wendover shiz
Oooou daddy zarya
I feel like Bernard whilst watching season 2. I didn't understand what the f**K was going on.
Everything In Middle Earth
Bernard became Dolores this season. While Dolores became err painful.
Alan Pennie hahaha so true
I literally said your line week after week after seeing the episodes. I understood season 1 but season 2 just killed my brain.
“is this now?”
That was the point of the crazy editing, you are seeing the story through Bernard pov
This series (westworld) has to be one of the most thought provoking series I've ever had the pleasure to follow. Your explanations have given me more to think about, and gotten me interested in a way I'm not sure I would have been if I hadn't known they existed.

You have no idea how much I needed this........
Dude, I was thinking the same thing, everyone I have been talking to at my job hasn't finished season 2 and I am dying lol. Finally can clear some stuff up.
You can tell that a lot of work has been put in this video.
Thanks mate !
I love your profile pic! Wintersun ftw!! \m/

Ok guys, thanks for the answer. I forgot about that After a year :p
I can't imagine most people going to work at Five Guys today know what the founders looked like.
new Alt Shift X video is the best feeling possible, after the season has ended.
Like Preston Jacobs said, the forge using data from the visitors of the park is like using data from people playing GTA to decode the human mind...
I wouldn't trust GTA players to be the copies of human minds lol
Sidenote, while I hated playing Trevor's storyline, I get amused whenever I see the actor, Steven ogg, in something (including Westworld season 1 and 4 😝). I remember Trevor was incredibly popular when gta5 came out but nowadays people are questioning that
best ad for audible I've seen. They spent their money well.
My biggest criticism with the show right now is how inconsistent Dolores seems to be. I don't understand her motivations or actions - I'd like to think I do, but she speaks very cryptically at times. I also don't understand why Bernard saves her. He points out her destructive nature, shoots her, but then decides the change his mind a minute later.
he changed his mind when Hale killed Elsie. that made him side with team host finally as he was struggling to pick a side all season.
A big part of season 2 was showing us how hosts have ACTUAL free will. A host, unlike a human, can look at their core drives and change them on a dime. Dolores changed her mind that quickly because she was faced with new information and was able to process and act on it faster than a human could.

Best transition into your sponsor every! They should pay your double lmao
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! i’ve been breaking my brain trying to make sense of this timeline. you have saved me from insanity.
Westworld is starting to look more and more like LOST.
The ending "twist" is unnecessary and fudges the important themes tbh
i totally understood all of the things you talked about even before watching your video, Just love hearing you break down the series. you're great at what you do
How the heck did you manage to simplify it so well lol My brain almost exploded and thankfully, within 5 mins, you put it back together like I was Bernard

Very smooth transition to the Audible ad. Well done.
Everyone on the Westworld subreddit have been waiting for something and you give us this!?! Kidding, can't wait for that season finale explained video!
not gonna lie, i've been refreshing your channel since the finale.
Or just Subscribe and turn on notifications for his uploads.
never have I seen such great product placement at the end of a video o// cudo, my friend. cheers.
You are by far the best thing on TH-cam.
Just finished the series and came here for a debrief. You are the best!
I love your videos, and find them interesting, helpful, and well produced.
There's on thing that bugs me though when people talk about Westworld, and that's the use of the word "timeline." Technically, there is one timeline, and we're jumping between time frames.
This is the best explanation of season 2. It’s the most confusing season so thank you.
Holy shit, you got me with that slaughtehouse 5 shit. I thought was going somewhere real then BOOM audible sponsor, hats off to you man, well done
Glad you got your normal voice back man, also thanks for great content:)
Yaaassss!!! So excited. Got excited! 2 seconds in. Thank u. Love your videos. Have seen them all
Timeline is still confusing, but we still love the show. Thanks for all the uploads.
Alt shift! ive missed your videos man. what is hype may never die
Great video again! Been checking in daily for you ep 9 + 10 video. This was a brilliant snack for the mean time.
Only channel I was waiting on! You’re the best

Very cool to mention Slaughterhouse 5, I hadn’t noticed it! I’m a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan. My favorite book is Cat’s Cradle (which is supposed to be adapted as a series soon).
5 mins? why i was expecting nothing less than 15mins
VAAN Gad this isn’t the season finale recap that’s why. Seems 2 be a bit backed up but that’s ok
I guess Alt Shift X plans to break down the whole season 2 explained video into different modules. This the first module is about the timeline , to lay out a framework for further explanation.
I guess a few more videos coming about the ending and a video for episode 9
Didn't watch Westworld Season 2, but watched every episode of Alt Shift X's Explained.
U finally update! I genuinely love ur explanation
_Slaughterhouse Five_ is also relevant to Bernard in the second season 2 timeline--Bernard's unaddressed memories are a lot like Billy Pilgrim's disordered experience of his own life.

When's the finale video coming? I NEED IT NOW!!!
THANK U BUDDY YOU SAVED MY SERIES
that audible segue is probably the best I've ever seen
Going back and watching season 1 is amazing, once you know everything you notice so many more details and little easter eggs. Fucking love this show
This definitely did not show up in any recommendations or my sub box. I had to find this after seeing your latest video released!
We miss you 😭😭 happy u r back 😻
That moment when you are watching that Video 3 times and you have always no idea whats going on?!
Love your videos, but also I wanted call out how well you handle advertising/sponsorship. glad you're feeling better!
Yay! Been waiting for this post. thank you!
Nice clean break down of the timeline
I’m guessing someone’s already mentioned it, but I’m pretty sure the MIB killed “Homestead” Maeve well before he visits “Host” Delos for the last time.

Agreed.
YESS!!!!! Been waiting for this. Thank you!!!
One of the best time line on TH-cam

Best advertising for audible 👍
Normal stories: Plot Twist
Westworld: *Time* Twist
LOL
I have waited over 2 weeks, full video better come out today
that was a very sneaky yet good audible plug
Thank you so much for this
Thank you for the video. I just finished S2 and was very confused to say the least but your video cleared everything up for me.
Bar far the best Westworld reviews out there! Same for Game of Thrones. Can't wait for the WW season 2 recap!
Thank you for another great video! Hopefully this doesn't take too much time away from your regular Internet Historian videos.
Thank you this is easier to understand then watching the show
Thanks Alt, your the best doing it!
I can't wait for the full video and thanks for outlining the timeline
Great work as always.
I didn't like season 2, it felt like they where trying to make it too complicated, I understood everything for the most part but it still felt like the writers said fuck it nothing has to make sense it's westworld
It makes sense though
come on it's not complicated.
Just maybe since everyone understood William was MIB in S1 they wanted it to make it more tricky

Now this is a good explanation video, thanks!

Been waiting on this :)
wow, I completely missed the post credit scene with old Bill when watching the episode
Thank you for a great and strait forward explanation of the timeline. It helps.
Nicely explained. Good job!!
i have been waitting for your vid for a month glad to see you back:)
There is literally NO CHANCE of understanding Westworld without watching these videos. Not a chance
Honestly, S2 is really confusing and I would not have been able to enjoy it without your videos.
Thank you for explaining that last part
Dynamite Mr X, as usual! Only you could cut to the chase on multiple timelines and seasons in less time than it takes to sear a steak!
I'm glad this series went full Lost-mode so early, so I didn't waste much time on it. It so clear that they have no idea where they're going, and just stringing things along with an every escalating pile of 'mystery boxes'.

I LOVED season 2, it was crafted really well. I know other people didnt like it, it really drew me in just like Season 1 did, now we are on SE3
Thanks for this!
Holy crap... Thank you a lot! Couldn't order the Epilog scene with the man in Black hahah
Oh man! I didn't realize that was Delores who tortured Bernard!! *mind blown* Thanks for the clarity!
I like how you smile when you said to sign up at audible at the end :P
Thanks man very helpful

It's already been clarify by Tessa Thompson that the character is called "Halores" 3:33
instantly sent this to my other half, I think you're better at explaining it than me
Always great to see a plug for Slaughterhouse Five!
