The upper concrete slab could break those wood beams, adding steel plating to each side of wooden beam with bolts drilled through will save the podium & adding a buttress in the middle section going up the outside from ground to roof will stop the total building collapse, your 2-ft thick pile of loose rocks wasn't meant to bear any extra weight
@@chadsimmons6347 I’m from PR and dad did a lot of concrete jobs around the house like expanding a concrete block wall to make our rooms bigger since we were 7 kids and I remember him putting very thick steel bars in the concrete blocks and fill them out fresh concrete. He did the same when doing concrete floors. I’m almost 70 this month and still remember him telling me that the purpose of it was to hold the concrete together if it cracked since PR is known for the earthquakes. Is this your reason too? It makes sense! 👍🏻❤️
It’s good to see you both support each other all the time. Great job on your work, and I hope next time you go to the immigration, they will approve your visa. Good luck 🍀!
You need to wear ear protection when you’re using your planer so close to your head and when sanding. Glad to see you persevering with the renovation 😃
i don't remember ever witnessing such courage and perseverance in someone building a life for their family, especially as we watch you overcoming obstacles in what you two young people are doing!! And we love watching you, Brady. showing us your "Monkey" skills!! How fun!! We are all behind you both in prayers and good wishes! Don't give up! Don't ever give up!!
Anything is possible! Your both so kick butt! Your personality’s should be in church your so spiritually advanced! Joy and hope are your strengths! Bravo!!!!
I'm really glad you brought up mental health. One of the main reasons, other than really liking you and your family, I watch your videos is for my mental health. It really does help me to stabilize myself while watching you. Especially on Sundays when all the great videos are on. Thanks
You cleaned your walls down and now they will becovered in dust again Hopefully a simple sweep will be enough. I have my fingers crossed for your Visa. Good luck. I really enjoy your good humoured resilience. Thank you.
In general, you would stagger the joints on flooring because it is exposed. Since you are installing "Sub-floor", there is no need to stagger the joints. The confusion comes from calling Sub-flooring, flooring. Carry on sir 😁 Oh, I'm going to guess the secret room on the back wall is going to be a wine cellar.
Heather you are doing such a good job taking care of the girls and working on the house too. It's ok to cry, crying makes us feel better!!!!! It's a tremendous amount of work. 😀
I'm going through the same process of restoring a 600 year old olive mill in Greece, so I understand how difficult it is to take on this project, hopefully the Italian government will see you are an asset to the country and saving this beautiful building, keep up the great work 👍🙏
I look forward to watching your video when I get home from Church on Sunday afternoon. Love what you two arevdoing. I pray that all will go well for you. Keep up the great work. God Bless.
When I was about 9 or 10 my parents were part of a mountaineering and rock climbing club. I took their Jr. club certificate course, passed, but was too young to get my certificate. When I was 12 almost 13 my family moved to CA. I have a baby brother almost 10 years younger than me. Now he had observed and been on many hiking trips and observed roping up as a baby. After the move to CA my mom looked out the window and my 3 year old brother climbing the tree in the yard with the mountaineering rope tied around his neck. Visions were flashing through my mom's eyes.....
I felt very sad for you last week. BUT this week feels must lighter! So to speak! Good luck for a positive result for your visa. Regards from South Africa 🇿🇦
You two amazed me how you could work together with a joyful heart. We love Italy and we used to live in Desenzano, Lake Garda from December 1980 to Dec 1983. We love the Italians, food, culture and all the historical cities. We’ve been going back to Italy every other year since my retirement 13 years ago. We’ll be in northern Italy again in first week of Dec after we disembark from our ocean Viking cruise in southern Italy the end of Nov. don’t know where your house is located?
Great idea! Please be careful about vascular thrombosis since you are hanging for periods of time if you are doing this in another part of the house. Ideally a harness with foot straps so you can stand would be safer. House is looking good so far!
It's going to be exceptionally beautiful, full of the love you've poured in. I'm holding space for all visa things to be resolved smoothly. And so it is.
I wish you to realize all the dreams that you are now visualizing. Don't worry, bureaucracy in Italy is really boring but we manage to survive it and so will you, you just need time. Here the life flows slowly but things are done anyway, you have to learn that the rhythms are different from other nations. Wish you all the best and keep supporting.
I worked on homes being built in Malibu many years ago. The technique used to surface the exposed beams and tongue and groove ceilings there was sandblasting. It created the appearance of weathered driftwood. It was quite beautiful.
I've grown up next to a church, the sound of yours remind me of it! The landscape is absolutely stunning. Your content is really interesting. Don't give up guys!
You guys can do this for living in Italy since there are so many stone houses. I bet this has been stressful to say the least but the outcome will be amazing and I can’t wait to see you guys enjoying your new home! Blessings to you all!
People seem to forget that in the past many people had skills like these to build their homes and. Farms etcetera. Minus the power tools. My grandmother, born after the Civil War, lived with her family in a soddy in Dakota territory. She remembered Indians coming by and feedi ng them. They drove the i⁰r⁰st0 Ford over dirt roads to California, world war's one and two, the c I ld war, space age, and the Kennedys assassinations, Korea, Vietnam et al. She was 104 when she died and was still mentally sharp Shed have really lived there folks a lot!!!.
I remember my husband, one of 3 boy's and the things they would do. I'm syrprised they lived to adulthood. He became a police officer in Alaska and lived on the edge during his career. Night shift, where all the action was during the 70's an 80's. Our two kids did lots of risky stuff. Our son went down the Alcan on a motorcycle he bought aftet working on the Valdez oilspill. Or daughter drove down the Alcan by herself at 17. We all thought nothing of this. It was just an adventure. I toally agree with your husband. Kid's are raised in these bubbles now and it's getting worse every year as the world gets so dangerous.
Don't be sorry for having something that works out, better as you imagined! With al you are going thru, its normal to be emotional now and then. Sending you love from a belgian expat in spain ❤❤❤❤️
My grandfather, born over a hundred years ago in a tiny mining town in Colorado, grew up and married a neighbor whose father was an immigrant miner from Italy, he did not speak English. Watching your videos, I am fascinated by the old carved out cave dwellings you have shown and taught us a bit about. I now live in Tyler, Texas and I have been trying to read and learn as much about the mundane, everyday history here. Much of Tyler came to be when the railroad was 'tapped', connected to other mainstream railroads which prior, transporting goods was done by steamship, river boat, flat bottom boat and then horse drawn wagon. Eastern Europeans, many Orthodox Jewish, arrived and established themselves in Tyler when the railroad was being constructed. Our town square has parts of it's original facade, one small strip of street in particular has a name spelled out in the brick. I looked it up, the name on the building was a European immigrant who arrived in the 1840's. He crossed the U.S. and was present in California during the 1850's gold rush. He settled in Tyler, Texas and it is believed this brick building he had built to run his business in the town square dates to the 1870's. Unfortunately, a new courthouse will have to be built in it's place, the whole block of old original brick will be demolished in October. When I look at these soon to be demolished buildings, I think about your videos and how these immigrants learned how to build anywhere from their ancestors. I appreciate their ingenuity, and I am so sad that they stood up for so long, only to be torn down in the name of progress.
Maybe you and a group of concerned fellow citizens could arrange to rescue some materials from the demolition and reconstruct some of it somewhere nearby. Any local architects in the town who might help, maybe in conjunction with any town historical society?
I lived in Tyler, TX with my ex-husbands family from time to time when visiting them. They lived in a rural part of the city and I remember iron in the water turning dishes brown.. she had to use whatever it was to cut through that stuff and clarify the dishes, they had ball lightning during storms which was weird and unusual and scary! I remember reading a lot during those days. I still love reading! 🌟
Good on you for getting on with your renovation, you’re doing brilliantly. Have you and your lovely daughters considered burying a Time capsule in your home, it’ll be a fun, educational project to do as a family? Also on those wooden lintels it’ll be good to carve your names on the hidden sides😊
What an awesome Italian ruin renovation! Fantastic work on a 600 year old maybe plus structure! Very satisfying to watch you both work! Congratulations 🎉
Love that your father taught you adventureses play. We were taught get outside and find something to do. Sometimes it was a little dangerous also. I'm so happy for my childhood outside. 😊

Honey you cry whenever you need to! Tears of joy!

Keep on keeping on, Brady and Heather. You two are amazing 👏

Your work is looking stunning as you redesign your old home!!! ‘This Old House’ has never been more fitting!!! 🥰🏠❤️
I had the same thought about staggering the boards. Thanks for the explanation.
Good for you. Don't take it personally. Stick it out. You'll make. One step at a time.

Ceiling looking good! The planned door opening to the foyeur promises a sense of lots of space. Can't wait for the reveal of the back door ...
So happy you’re not giving up! Love your weekly videos ❤
Love the contrast between the beams and flooring!

I went to college in Tyler and still live relatively close. I always liked Tyler's Downton area.

Love that idea I did that in a house we did years ago my son was 4years old he is now 50 wonder when it will be found
What an awesome Italian ruin renovation! Fantastic work on a 600 year old maybe plus structure! Very satisfying to watch you both work! Congratulations 🎉
I appreciate your videography and how you tell your story. Loved the spider.
Love that your father taught you adventureses play. We were taught get outside and find something to do. Sometimes it was a little dangerous also. I'm so happy for my childhood outside. 😊
I love you guys! So very unique , very talented ! And hard working. It will pay off . Disregard the present appearances . I know that a miracle will happen!
Something cant be very unique. Something is either unique or not. Hope this helps you in future comments.
Something can be very unique. The person who stated it can’t be is mistaken.
Sorry but the word UNIQUE means its ONE OF A KIND so if there only only one it is neither very, a bit or totally unique for there is but ONE.
Great job with really stressful job to stress water the house!
But when it’s done , what a house you will have!
You can do a B&B?!
Be careful as you need your bodies right now! Go slow! Think it out! And protect yourselves! You are not good if you get hurt!
Safety! First!
You have a long ways to go!!
But you will be smart , I know!
👍😁✅👏😁❤️
You all are the best. Love and happiness to you all. 😊❤️

The white painted boards you're now sanding....keep one as a sample to use to compare when you start painting additional boards with a white wash.

I am so glad you're moving on with the work. All of my fingers and toes are crossed that you win your case and get those visas.
You may hanging in that harness easy!
We grew up taking risks, but now we are older, we fear them .😂❤
Your daughters are growing up! They are really smart and beautiful! !
Great job,👏👍❤️ parents!!
Love this impressive hard-working articulate DIY-er couple. Grow through what you go through is the phrase which comes to mind.
As a kid I was lucky enough to be born in 1952.
It was expected that we would fill our play time exploring the local creek encountering the Snakes, Sipers , Lizards etc ,climbing the trees without ropes and harnesses ,diving into the snag filled pools all the while learning valuable lessons.
Today's urban kids are missing out on so much.
Cheers Eric
Such an amazing view
I saw a documentary on National Geographic about Machu Picchu. Before the buildings at that site were built, the foundation walls were constructed beginning at the bottom of the mountain. Behind each of these walls rocks were the base layer. On this was sand and on top of that was fertile soil. This building method was used because on both sides of Machu Picchu were seismic fractures. A fresh water spring fed water to the site. (Sound familiar?) The heavy rain needs proper drainage while maintaining stability. These terraced walls allowed for the growing of corn year round.
I am hoping your court case goes well. You put in loads of work and I hope you keep it.
Your home looks beautiful! I can't wait to see the Kitchen doorway open and so excited about the secret, looks like a doorway to a pantry?
Things are coming together now and looking beautiful. Maybe you can bring a few chairs and a small table upstairs for a homey touch for the girls while you work. I love the results you are getting.
Here in lower saxony its been raining the entire of July! Winter socks, jumpers, sniffly noses!! Keep going guys, everything will work out 😊
It's going to be beautiful when done! ❤️🤗
You are Spiderman! Love the beams.
