I’ve installed an android unit as an accessory instead of replacing the IHU unit since I love to play videos while I drive and have google maps on my Xc60 polestar
With an adapter like MMB plus 4.0 you will have wireless carplay and mirroring. You will have all your IOS apps on the screen and can run youtube, IPTV and others also during driving your car.
I’ve been using Apple CarPlay on my 2022 XC60 for a couple of weeks now. Apple Music and Waze are the two apps I use the most which are great. iMessage is great as well. On the downside, I have to use a cable to connect my iPhone and I cannot skip songs using the buttons on my steering wheel or on the console which is annoying (I play loud music so voice activation does not work). It would be great if Volvo could resolve these issues. I still haven’t made up my mind which system I prefer to use.
I’ve noted that I barely use CarPlay and the car system is sufficient for me. Funny to realize as I full used CarPlay in my previous XC40 with the old infotainment 😅
For me, I prefer Waze, sounds like Volvo needed to rush the release of apple carplay because competitors are developing cars with this as standard, quite embarrassing for Volvo actually. I am sure these bugs will be fixed eventually, they just needed to get the feature out ASAP.
I would hardly characterise Volvo as having "rushed" it given that they have been promising this for well over a year. I think they have been horrifically slow but it is better to have it than not have it so I am much happier
We ordered an XC40 and hope to get it delivered this year. Nice to see that Volvo implemented Carplay but if the bugs make it a bad user experience, they are doing it wrong. I would like to know how they did it, maybe by emulation or with help of some middleware? Like Thom I also live in NL.
hello, I have a problem, I can't found any videos about Android Auto in 2024 volvo car and how to do to connect, there are a lot of manuals but it doesn't work to me
The implementation of Google Maps in the Android system is missing a massive feature - audio alerts for speed cameras. You can (now) see speed cameras on the map itself but it never announces that there is a speed camera ahead as Waze, Apple Maps and - yes - Google Maps does on your phone. Don't get me wrong - I don't speed but I do like the reassurance of knowing of any speed cameras on the road. Otherwise the Google Maps application is very good and very accurate when it comes to estimating battery usage for a given destination. But....despite AT LASY eliminating some rudimentary bugs, there are still some nasty ones. The latest is that it doesn't adhere to the % charge limits. For example, I set mine to 100% because I had a long journey. After that I set it to 90% but it keeps charging to 100% while showing 90% on the screen. Many owners are reporting the same thing. I wish Volvo did a better job of connecting to clients and proactively finding out about these things.
Well said Rickie, I agree fully with you. The bugs need to be solved more quickly and interacting with us (drivers and customers) could solve many things for the software.
In my (lease) previous XC90 2018 and current XC90 2020 I always had the same problem with often not connecting to Apple Carplay. Sometimes music plays and Siri responds but the screen for Apple Carplay is black. It tells me to Connect Device even when it is connected. I do not know if it is on the Apple or Volvo side? I would suspect Apple. I noticed a trick that when my iPhone can not connect to Apple Carplay I connect it first to Bluetooth and start to play music and then connect with cable to Apple Carplay. Sound quality is much better with iPhone connected by cable than with BT, and the phone is being charged. I have the Volvo navigation with head-up display that shows the route on the screen. However I am looking forward to Android Automotive as I mostly use Google Maps, Spotify, TH-cam Music. I also use parking apps that are on Apple Carplay. In some places when I park I have poor data connection with my phone (Sweden) so I start the parking with the app when driving to my parking place. So when I park the car the payment for the parking is already started. But I think Google Playstore should have those apps as well. I am planning to lease XC40 Twin as my next car. That's why I came across your channel. I like the shape of C40 but I have a dog. The electric future, is coming, but so far rather slowly - here in Sweden - I mean not som many charging stations.
Thom, could you test V2.4? (is it available for your car? - the update is from 24.10.2022). Changelog: Updates in software V2.4 Increased heat pump utilisation in cold climate. General stability improvements for charging and scheduled charging. Applies to both AC and DC charging. - maybe a new charging curve?? Minor improvements to interior lighting. Adjustments to interior light intensity. Drivetrain optimisation adjustments.
There are many Carplay wireless adapters for sale on the market. Wife use Carlinkit 3 in a XC40 with Sensus. Does anyone know if these wireless dongles work in Volvos with Google GAS?
Denk je dat het mogelijk is om deze software ook op een oudere xc90 t8 (2017) te kunnen zetten? Ik irriteer mij namelijk dood aan het feit dat het alleen te zien is op het onderste deel van het scherm. Thx!
Same with Audi the cable connection problem with Apple Car play. (I have a Q2 2021) The iPhone says its connected but Apple Carplay thinks otherwise. So not sure if it's Volvo's fault.
