Perry Como - unlike some other famous American singers of Italian extraction at that time - was a very decent human being. there was an innocence about those times that this man truly personified. many people today simply can't relate to that.
Yes, "Mister C" embodies the romantic idealist. His singing of mellow songs like "It's Impossible" is peerless, and can still soothe and inspire any hearer, any time or where.

I never liked this song and I can't remember them appearing, but I feel for them now and have a new respect. They were terrified to come out on live TV just like that. The lights were glaring and they did not have the show biz presence for performing even though their father did.

It isn't creepy at all, this kind of music gives off the exact opposite vibe, that's WHY it's used in horror movies. The dissonance between the sweet/dreamy/fun music with creepy/weird/scary imagery is an effective method of making a scene feel unsettling.
Thank you so much for posting. I'm a huge fan of this song and Patience and Prudence, and I've been looking for a video of them performing it for a long time. Awesome!
You wanna know what's creepier? If this airdate is correct, P&P performed on Perry Como on 9/15/1956 and Prudence (girl on the left) passed away on 9/15/2023-- exactly 67 years apart.
This is quite charming. I used to dislike this song, but strangely enough, what turned me on to this version was a brilliant film editor. There was a TV documentary about the appalling suffering of GIs during the Pacific War and the soundtrack used was this song. It should not have worked, but the effect was so poignant and chilling that I had to identify the song (which I had heard as a kid). I am glad to hear that the girls grew up to be young women relatively unscathed by their unwanted ten minutes of fame. It may be a fluke, but this version of the song still has a timeless charm about it.
I share your appreciation of this song. It may be not about infidelity, but about a husband leaving for a while as for military service, likely why the documentarian deployed it. The girls' soprano voices are enchantingly right for the song's melody and romantic stream and moonlight imagery, and their childish innocent, "choir girl" voices a counterpoint foil to the grim theme of the documentary.
Exactly. A talk show host speaking softly with children doesn't make him a pedophile. It just means that the kids are a little awkward. And children singing isn't creepy. It's sweet.
I'm not sure about that. "I know (I know)..." Who's singing the second "I know"? It doesn't look like it's either of them. I think this WAS actually lip-synced. They would probably have been much too nervous to sing it live on TV with half the country watching.
@@davidsimpson4510 They are singing, and I believe their father is playing the Piano and you can hear a third voice which is their mothers. Everything is live in this recording.
Yes neither is singing the second “I know “ part so I believe they were singing along with the recording. If the mother was singing and father was playing piano I believe the cameraman would have briefly shown them.

If only they had colors back then so I can see a the details
This song is now forever stuck in my head.
Same
Wow, my grandpa was 16 and my grandma was 12 when this came out!
Woah! :0
Woww :0
My grandma was 23. She passed away in 07-05-2019.
Where does the third voice come from?
+zzzut Their mother, via a microphone in the wings.
@@vincewhirlwind68 wow... were you there?
@@alexandersonmei No. I wasn't born until many years after this was recorded. That bit of information is included in the sleeve notes for the P&P Best of compilation CD.
@@vincewhirlwind68 I came looking for video exactly to find out what the deal was with the voice that pops up to echo the lyrics, and the video didn't help. Thanks.
Causeeeeeee bit€hhhhhhhhh I’m over here doing three part harmony Thank You! @gleenrice
I never liked this song and I can't remember them appearing, but I feel for them now and have a new respect. They were terrified to come out on live TV just like that. The lights were glaring and they did not have the show biz presence for performing even though their father did.
There is nothing creepy about this it's absolutely lovely ❤
This song, written in 1926 and remade in 1952, is now on TikTok. This still blows my mind and kinda triggers me as well
I remember an interview with the girls, one of them mentioned having the dubious distinction of having the last "gold record" on a "78"...I always thought that was cute. Now-a-days, most wouldn't even know what that means...time just keeps marching on!
62 years ago to the day! Great tune!
Can i like this clip more than once ???!!!
I know them
They had a couple of hits in the mid fifties
like this one
and also
" Gonna get along without ya now "
was a hit also for them
Love it! I remember when it first came out. Yeeeesssss!
I know (I know)
You belong to somebody new
But tonight you belong to me
Although (Although) we're apart
You're a part of my heart
And tonight you belong to me
Wait down by the stream
How sweet it will seem
Once more just to dream
In the moonlight
My honey I know (I know)
With the dawn that you will be gone
But tonight you belong to me
Wait down, wait down along the stream
How very, very sweet it will seem
Once more just to dream
In the silvery moonlight
My honey I know (I know)
With the dawn that you will be gone
But tonight you belong to me
Just to little old me
Way down by the stream*
It isn't creepy at all, this kind of music gives off the exact opposite vibe, that's WHY it's used in horror movies. The dissonance between the sweet/dreamy/fun music with creepy/weird/scary imagery is an effective method of making a scene feel unsettling.
Thank you so much for posting. I'm a huge fan of this song and Patience and Prudence, and I've been looking for a video of them performing it for a long time. Awesome!
Watching this at 4am is quite a thrill
American horror story got me here :D
It's old, but in the grand scheme of time and that the 50's to the year we're in now is just a blip, a tiny fraction of time that had passed 😮
Really pleasant music and performance!
I like how they're all so calm
You wanna know what's creepier? If this airdate is correct, P&P performed on Perry Como on 9/15/1956 and Prudence (girl on the left) passed away on 9/15/2023-- exactly 67 years apart.
I heard this song years and years ago. I just stumbled across this tonight. The girls did great!
Every time I listen to this song I think I’m curse or I thinks it’s curse like Oof 💀
Beautiful harmony, such innocence!
As Perry brought them to the front of the stage, she looks terrified. Still, pulled it off like a pro!
Imagine walking by yourself in an abandoned hospital and this song starts playing in one of the rooms.
It's memorizing to hear them sing
These comments show how discusting our minds have been twisted.
@SallyTheLostSoul. I don't think so. 2:16 , 6:19 and 6:13 were odd.
Exactly. A talk show host speaking softly with children doesn't make him a pedophile. It just means that the kids are a little awkward. And children singing isn't creepy. It's sweet.
@@ediehunter1563 oh get real, this is 1956, not 2021! Get on with your shenanigans elsewhere you waterbug!
I was a toddler when this was filmed, but I remember this song.
Holy crap this is the real deal, not lip synced. Fabulous!!!
I'm not sure about that. "I know (I know)..." Who's singing the second "I know"? It doesn't look like it's either of them. I think this WAS actually lip-synced. They would probably have been much too nervous to sing it live on TV with half the country watching.
@@davidsimpson4510I think they are singing but maybe with the recording in the background too
@@davidsimpson4510 They are singing, and I believe their father is playing the Piano and you can hear a third voice which is their mothers. Everything is live in this recording.
Yes neither is singing the second “I know “ part so I believe they were singing along with the recording. If the mother was singing and father was playing piano I believe the cameraman would have briefly shown them.
I have never gotten to see these girls before. I always have just loved this song! I wonder what they are doing now.
According to a person in the comments here, Patience lives in Georgia and doesn't really leave her house and is apparently viewed as "that weird old lady" by the kids in the neighbourhood and Prudence lives in California. Prudence ended up becoming an alcoholic and her daughter Paige died in July 2020. Paige was homeless and often stayed with her grandma Audrey until Audrey died.
This made it to #6 on the charts. In Feb of that same year, Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" made it to #1.
I love this song
R.I.P Prudence ❤
awesome i was searching for this song from a long time realy thank you from my heart
I love this song but it's kinda creepy sung by these pre-pubescent girls..especially in this version...
Yeah, but didn't you know, people didn't think like that back then
Paisano
Ed Passerini
People have been talking like that since the beginning of time.
It’s a cover of a love song. People do that all the time. I’m aromantic and I still like to sing love songs.
Love to hear Perry Como sing às well ❤❤❤😊😊
Love this song
Dear you both, as a hidden follower of Ms. Young for quite a while, I really like the way you are now going together with your tunes. It is so wonderful to have such music back in our present time and lives. The world is so crazy, but friendly music like yours can heal it. Please keep it up! Kind Regards from Berlin/Germany. P.S.: Today I saw your show date in Berlin Oct. 7 , but I was shocked about the location. It is one of the worst areas in Berlin and I would not go there later than 6 p.m. So unfortunately I cannot join in, I am sorry. There is a better location not far away called Passionskirche. Maybe you want to choose it next time you come back - and please on Fridays or Weekends. All the best to you :D
Two nervous little girls.
Só posso ter nascido no ano errado pq eu amo coisas antigas...
Just so sweet : ) Hope the sisters are doing well these days.
They're both still alive. Patience lives in Georgia and Prudence lives in California. Tragically Prudence became a drug addict and a severe alcoholic and her daughter, Paige Conca was homeless and died in 2020 💔
@@AceStar1994 Oh, I thought they moved to Wisconsin? I saw them once give a brief interview when they were older and they seemed like well adjusted middled aged women.
@@nancydavis_ Sorry for the late reply, I don't get notified when somebody replies. Yeah, I thought they both lived in Wisconsin too because that's what it says on Wikipedia. I just done a search for their names and a Whitepages result come up for Patience.
Como as a class act! The girls were angels 😇
So funny that it was an "oldie" in 1956. What a classic.
Whimsical!
This is GREAT! Thanks for posting it!
Lovely
So cute and talented. And those little girls, just adorable.
so cool...
Wow! I didn't even know this tape existed! Thanks for posting it!!
“And you had to tell him I was only 14” what was she hoping for 😂 good grief
A kiss on the lips from PC ..and I don't
blame her ..
I remember this when it was out. I didn't realize back then they were just kids!
meloyelloduck said "They were lip-syncing, this is exactly as they sound on the studio recorded song!" I don't agree. You can hear the tremulous quaver in Prudence's voice, not discernible in the recording. However, the backing, including their own vocal harmonies, does seem to be from the original recording.
Back then this was live there was no absolute way that this could've been lip synced because that technology was not that advanced in the 1940s get your knowledge straight please I'm 12 and I know more than you I believe that I hate stated my point I will stop now, if you really don't care you wouldn't reply to this. Thank youuuu.
Actually, their mother provided an extra voice through an offstage mic to beef up the girls' voices when they sang live. If you listen closely you can hear her on this.
Actually, it's the 1950s. 1956 to be exact.
Extremely interesting .I wondered where the extra voice came from if this was live.
