I've been a Beatles fan since I was little black girl growing up in the toughest part of the world where if you made it out alive it was more priceless and more sentimental than even a million dollars thanks Mr Sir Paul McCartney for writing Blackbird IAM IMMENSELY proud over the fact that you and Lennon would take some time away out of y'all's busy schedules to write a most endearing song about a black girl being denied and deprived of what so rightfully belongs to her❤❤❤❤❤❤oh my god I am tears 😭😭😭😭
We didn't ignore the meaning of Blackbird. We simply didn't know the meaning until it was revealed in the last few years. It's so great that it's now getting a huge second release with the the real meaning known by all ❤
Almost everybody knew what it meant in 1968 if they were paying attention.
The meaning was revealed a long time ago! I guess still in the sixties when the Beatles album was released. I remember reading about it in 1968 in a Brazilian magazine with the translation in Portuguese by a famous Brazilian poet called Carlos Drummond de Andrade. But it is true, I only heard about the Rock Crystal problem of racism that inspired him some years later. Even so it was still last century.
The song is beautiful, I love the harmonies added! 💜

I was 20 when the white album came out, many of us were, and NO ONE was saying anything about it being a civil rights song. That’s ridiculous. Just because a black/by racial person is singing it, here comes the “agenda”?

But come on Paul, I know you want to be accepted by all walks of life and the black people have been trying to rewrite all of our history for the past 20 years, but please be true thyself.
