I love the idea of this ridiculously huge crowd being entertained by three guys on a bare stage with the most rudimentary instruments. The power of performance and great song writing. :)
I'd say synth was only just becoming popular in the UK around then. They fitted in with the punk attitude of bands like the Clash. Rockabilly had its niche in the UK in the 80s.
@@kalebvera1841 yea your a little off. The stray cats were very early 80s I was like 8 ,maybe younger, at the time. Labamba was late 80s . . The whole swing thing happened in the mid 90s . And labamba was a retro movie that had nothing to do with swing music???
The only thing that my sweet baby would stop crying for was this song. This dead tired Momma was so happy to play it for her. Thanks for making this Brian
I remember the first time I heard them. I instantly became a huge fan. I waited on the day of release, for the record store to open to buy Built for speed. I've been a big fan ever since. I never had a chance to see them but did try twice. The first time I was hospitalized and could not go. The second time just an hour before I was going to leave, my wife went into labor. Her due date was a month away. They were wrong on the due date.
3 guys with minimal instruments. And maximum talent.. and they rock the house 👍.. and now days musicians have the best of if everything and six guys can’t even come close to these guys .!
They had an original look (well, updated look) and a modernized take on old rock n roll. Then BS is a really good guitarist, the others are Really proficient on their instruments. A winning soup!
Pray tell, how are in-ears a bad thing? Musicians finally have the ability to hear themselves and their bandmates in a custom mix that allows for them to perform their best. This was unthinkable from the birth of amplification until a couple years ago. Its some of the greatest innovation of our times that is very specifically aimed at making high quality expression of artistic intent possible

Wow, this live recording sounds much better than the studio original. Also the tone of the Brians guitar is a bit weird, it sounds like its changing a pitch, adding more "mystery" to the song. I love that.

So right. Was a fan of Mod music, not rockabilly in the 80s, but this is SO good that it transcends musical fashion. 10/10 .
Bulldog TV slim Jim was just talking about that on the " let there be talk " podcast.
Bulldog TV This is the best.
Lovely😍
Bulldog TV this is why modern music sucks rockabilly rules
Goes to show all you need is the bare minimum when your a master at your craft. This is great!!!
Greatest live band of all time !! Thorogood Hoodoo Gurus Presidents Suzy Q r the closest but that’s just my opinion 💖👍🇦🇺🔥
You know it Lou 👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Louis Solano a very simple band but they sure could play
I'm in that audience somewhere. The 80s were the best years ever!
hey cindy!!! cannot be beat...kids today dream of the 80s!!!!
Just saw the Cats in NYC last week. 40th Anniversary tour...
Still amazing.
It’s strange that this was so popular in the early 80s when everything was synth and glam metal...
Because it was the early 80's.
Glam metal and synth was popular at the mind and late 80'. Anyways, they made good music.
not really; rock is rock
I'd say synth was only just becoming popular in the UK around then. They fitted in with the punk attitude of bands like the Clash. Rockabilly had its niche in the UK in the 80s.
there was also a retro 50s vibe goin on , you can see it in shows and movies in the 80s like La Bamba

THE PURE MAGIC OF ROCKABILLY MUSIC
Okay, watching this in 2019 is just making me feel really, really old. It seems like just yesterday this was a chart topping hit song.
You feel old watching in 2019? I'm watching from 1762 kid!
The bros just hanging out drinkin beer, chillin with the crowd. Playing awesome music so cool
The coolest band ever.
One amazing group.
@@thomasking4329 agree 😻😻😻

Nah. The Clash were. But these guys are ok
holy shit...I don't think I've seen this....best rockabilly moment in history..!!!
I love this song and I'm amazed by the drum set its pretty solid and minimalistic
The only band where the hardest thing to get in the gig van was the bass :o)
Juno Guy very simple band but they sure could play

No, dont have anything fancy. Yes, there are only three guys. Yes, they have millions of people admiring them
this whole performance is simplicity amplified
Also no in-ear monitors.. They just do it all on their own hearing, instinct and talent.. Something you just don't see artists/performers do nowadays

@@luchadoritoit’s not a bad thing, it’s just the lack of them makes it more impressive.
Same with Oingo Boingo during their live concert special from 1985. This takes a very tight band and special TALENT to sound that amazing!
By Far the Coolest Cats. 🐈 Bow to these fellas
Go go cats. Stray cats the legendary rockabilly band. No competition the full package. Still love u stray cats.
Best comment here.

1983 US Festival. I was just a freshman in high school, so I never made it to one before it was cancelled. That would've been awesome to go to.
Slim Jim was on fire !!! Beautiful drums.

Pound for pound the best guitar player in the world...best band too
This band is criminally underrated. This song 99.9% better than any music coming out in this day and age.
Steven Byrd amen to that you can understand the lyrics unlike this rap trash we have today
So right. Same thing could have been said about them back then too.
Loved it in 82 love it more now

Black and orange stray cat sittin' on a fence
I ain't got enough dough to pay the rent
I'm flat broke but I don't care
I strut right by with my tail in the air
Stray cat strut, I'm a ladies cat
I'm a feline Casanova, hey man that's that
Get a shoe thrown at me from a mean old man
Get my dinner from a garbage can
Don't go crossing my path
I don't bother chasing mice around
I slink down the alleyway looking for a fight
Howling to the moonlight on a hot summer night
Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry
"Wild stray cat, you're a real gone guy"
I wish I could be as carefree and wild
But I got cat class and I got cat style
I don't bother chasing mice around
I slink down the alleyway looking for a fight
Howling to the moonlight on a hot summer night
Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry

autentic straight cats amazing Brian Setzer great performance!!
I was there and let me tell you great line up that day
It's 2024 now and the Cats are on tour!
Love it 3 guys getting it done so great dance music
Fantastic Quality
The old school Bass and 2 drum kit are awesome.
Been looking for this song forever!
10-07-2023 + still Timeless!
Too bad Brian's guitar is criminally low in the mix during this performance.
Kind of a mid-scoop approach, maybe. Glad about the shining Vocals and the almost hi-fi bass, though.
Guitar is mixed fine. Perfect for not muddying the vocals as a rhythm instrument, but comes through fine when soloed.
