Story time: I got into dayz around 2 months ago. I am old dude I (40) with 3 boys (16-8-5) who hasn't played video games (outside of mario kart w the kids) in 20+ years. Fun fact, I was elite at Starseige Tribes , (the greatest FPS of all time) but I digress. I found Dayz when looking for some multi player games for my kids xbox. I decided to fire it up on a sleepless night and I've been hooked ever since. With such a steep learning curve I turned to yt to get some education. I can say with full confidence, that you have provided that in a clear, entertaining, detailed and digestible way. As I get more competent w the game, I find my self watching some videos again to pick up on all of the deets that flew right over my head. I must also admit, that I have enjoyed your tutorials so much I found myself getting sucked into your cinematic/gameplay/story videos as well. (my 16 year old give me endless shtt about this. All that being said, thank you! You seem like a really fantastic person and I'm grateful you have put so much time into creating these videos to help others out. With the little breadcrumbs you I have heard you share (music, teaching kids, being a dog person and being from my second home SD) I must assume this is representative of who you are with the camera or mic off as well. Thanks Cam!
Building bases isn't only about the buildings, the most important thing is the location of these buildings. Building in places offtrack from the main paths that most people take is the actual factor that grants a lot of security. The lower the frequency of other players in your path, the less likely it is that they come across your base. That's why I tend to look for places that lack reasons for someone to go there in the first place. Sometimes it's a lone cabin in the woods, or a random building in one of the big cities, or just a simple shed. What I really like about your video is that you point out the second most important factor: Visibility. For me, it's like this: The more obvious your base is, the better you have to defend it, and that comes with higher building costs and bigger group size as well. In other words, a big and clearly visible base needs a lot of ressources that are easier to claim for a group of people than a solo player. In the end it's all a preference thing anyway.
Found you a week ago. Love the content to death. Tried dayz like a year ago. Couldnt get off the coast and quit after 5 hours of play time. Since ive picked it back up Im on my 3rd character and im loaded with a couple guns and cooked chicken about to go to the airfield for the first time. You have made yhis my favorite game and its so exciting!!! NEVER STOP!!
My first couple bases were in the Tall cherno apartments... I only put two gates and it lasted maybe 2 months. Love the view especially when the sun is popping up. Can't tell ya how many times I fell down the ladder or pushed myself out of the window with the gate Love the channel bro, loving the adventures with Bethany! I thought I hit the subscribe, my bad... Building unique base is fun and challenging with towers etc I just hide all the best loot underground or in camo tents a few clicks away in a dense woodland Peeps roll up thinking they’ll score big and are left with the option for a pink dress , wellies or some sporter ammo
Little glitxh that helps, if you bury it ypur stach in a garden shed the dirt like glitches on to the top of the shed roof. Rather than the floor of the shed, so that would help i think.
@@MAJORTIPTOP I mean if ur able to remember where all ur stashes are and if they're placed well then its def better id say because who tf is rly looking at the ground like that while running thru the woods?
one thing I will add is that if you have the resources I prefer buildings with 2 entrances apart from each other which makes people camping your door less likely to be able to ambush you as you can simply go out the other entrance.
I'm setup in one of those cream colored, double-double-door barns. It doesn't have a huge final funnel, but you can have 4 small funnels, 2 of which you can make super hard to get into if you want, and make it so you need a campfire in order to unlock
I had a small improvised shelter in a small group of trees in the middle of Chernarus, and also building a base… the base was raided within a week but the small shelter I had for a month at least.
You covered it in the 5th minute, lol. Even exactly in the same location as my longest base, in Kabanino next to the orchard. Random gas zone, died a few times in there
I go for these also and once I searched around in the surrounding areas of NWAF on Chernarus for one and EVERY SINGLE ONE had a base already...so its a popular choice!
Since i dont have any patience at all i never waste hours to break through even one wall of a base. You never know if it is empty or just not worth just to get a bk12 and a shovel or so. So for me as a solo, bases with many layers of walls like the castle feel the safest. I cant imagine how much ammunition is needed to break in, and when the castle is far from military spots, it could probably last very long..
You can find 5 to 10 nades in 1 tisy run, not even talking about all the 9x39 and other ammos that are good against walls. Breaking the wall with 6 nades and the frame with ammos you can actually raid it pretty fast
@@aliciadorablee but that ist for only 1 layer. In a castle you can build on 4 floors or so. Even with the damage nades to in a 5 meter radius, you have to spend a lot of time, patience an ammunition. So for me, its a lot safer than shack bases with one layer.
If you wanna get into raiding looting for plastic explosives in industrial areas is a must. Me and my buddy are dedicated to that and we have a stash. So we just put IEDs there and raid which if we get lucky can result in huge outcomes. We raided a base with 6 walls before that had 2 cars and like 15 nvgs and some great guns.
You dont gotta worry about normal players raiding you, its rhe dupers you gotta worry about and i know cause i am a former duper, dupers have infinite explosives and ammo and kits and dgaf if they die, im speaking from experience
The reason I build bases is to create PVP. I don’t store anything in them. Except a couple vehicles I might’ve acquired. Nothing better than defending your base against a big group.
The apartments are the best place to base at just because of how many gates you can place. At the end of the day no base is safe and will eventually get raided or found. But if you have 11+ gates it’s pretty hard for a duo or trio to raid. THATS what u got to think about. Not a solo raiding you but multiple. So always count 2x/3x ammo n explosives someone will have when raiding you
My first ever base that I built was in a large apartment building without even realizing that everybody said it was good I just thought it would be good.
Hey cam, just wanted to say I put an improvised tent upstairs in a piano house just last week. I'm not sure how regular tents would work but I thought you could
Just a heads up, the cabin window CAN be blocked by a wall if placed on the outside and built from the inside. I have successfully done this on vanilla servers. Works on the window closest to the stove as well.
i still think having multible stashes is the best for solos.Especially on servers that have traders. you can jus sell all the gear and liquidize it into money and stash that away
I slightly disagree with your statement that it’s better to have extra layer of defenses (at least for official servers on console) than to stay hidden. On console it’s better to stay hidden cause of the duping which has become insane. Idk about PC or community servers, but I assume duping is less of an issue there. Good video overall tho❤️
I'd like to see your stash locations for solo running - i am a hunter and stay away from players and pvp altogether. i am always looking for cool stash locations
Can anyone tell me if in the base locations at 20:54 can you put a wall by the ladder to block it? I feel having an account for you and your teammates to access the code from within would make it literally unraidable
Fun little video, but sadle you don't tell people about how good this places are to defende against an online raid, and include it in the overall score. But nice content
many times in the video you say something is hard sealed but when there is a space above the wall its not there is a gazillion ways to climb over the walls. people should really only put walls and doors where it fully seals
The base I had that lasted the longest on official (nearly 4 months high pop everydsy) was in a random apartment in the Cherno suburbs in amongst all the other towers hidden on a lower floor so people can't see through the walls when logging in and out, but base building is absolutely pointless in this game it takes too long and gets raided to easily and quickly and loot is available on the map anyway no point stashing it

Yeah imagine doing all that for a base just to get offline raided by dupers or boosters it’s pointless
Building a base in DayZ is only 10x more time consuming and frustrating than building a house in real life.

Don’t worry about building a base unless you play on a low population server or you have a large group.

I think its important to mention that a lot of the gates and walls you have placed can be boosted over and will need barbed wire.
Still useless you can break it in less than 30 seconds with a knife. You need to think to every way they can boost before placing a wall
