The whole album KILL UNCLE should have been recorded in a rockabilly style, like this arrangement of this song. It would have been essential listening.
agreed, but at the same time you can check the rockabilly out through live recordings, and we can still have the original. kill uncle is still good in the right time and place, even though they are almost always more enjoyable in their 1991 live form.
Agreed. Kill Uncle is at best a mediocre effort and an entirely rockabilly offering would have given the whole affair a much, much more interesting flavor.
So this performance was the night before they were to play at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion. I saw this performance at the time on television (Steve Vizard Show) and was so excited as we had tickets to that concert. I had always liked The Smiths and Morrissey. But…I had also always had a passion for Rockabilly/ Psychobilly. So I was double excited to see this current backing band he had which included the legendary Gary Day on slap bass. Well……the next day, three hours before the concert was to start…………Morrissey cancelled…….🫤
I had tickets to see Morrissey in Melbourne around this time. He ended up cancelling the rest of his concerts and flying back to England due to illness. Can't say how disappointed I was. He ended up coming back top the Forum in Melbourne many years later, without a recording contract, but it was still good to finally see Mozz in real life.
I also missed out on this tour in 1991. I have a vague recollection that it was immediately after this performance and subsequent interview that he cancelled the tour. Did Steve Vizard upset him? I did get to see him many, many years later when Boz was playing guitar in arm brace with his guitar on a stand. What a trooper.
Yeah. I love Our Frank, Found,Found, Found, There is a place in Hell..and most of the other songs like Asian Rut are now classics. Maybe it was the music press who had their swords out for him.
Love the rockabilly treatment of the song here. Marred only slightly by Whyte (again) acting as though he's the feature act. He likes himself very much. Morrissey is a master performer, and the best pop lyricist ever.
mother fuckin morrissey rockabilly! if you enjoy this you should totally hear sing your life rocka version as well! personally i think the slap bass makes everything that much more awesome
It's backwards for me,Sing your life is my favorite but recently discovered this song about a month ago when I picked up Kill Uncle, great advice though!
Pop deviance of the highest order. A quiffed gay man with his quiffed straight band singing a song about a cooed-over Chihuahua. And the arrangement - Scotty and Bill meets Sondheim? That the "I'm bored now" line is given to the bruiser-looking guitarist seals it. Never understood the antipathy toward "Kill Uncle" - for me, it's up there with "Vauxhall" and "Quarry" in my Morrissey top 3.
this is probably the best version of this song.... does anyone disagree? what was he thinking when he wrote this, or when he was first handed this track to listen too...... very curious to know. anyway, i just got goosebumps of when i first heard this on my alarm clock tape player when i was 11. love it.
This a great song with great life lessons similar to the last American virgin, nice guys will finish last but because not that they are genuinely nice but the dickish behavior they exude sometimes is not confident but more conniving. Its incredibly complicated being an unattractive guy trying too find someone, I don't believe ugly=unattractive. Just sometimes you cannot win this so called game, I've given up temporarily but I'll find my footing again as Morrissey said I know it's gonna happen someday.
Kill Uncle - in my opinion poorly produced. This is what this particular track COULD have sounded like on the album - far, far, far better! Imagine what the rest of 'em could've sounded like.
It sucks that this album was sabotaged, it could have been fantastic if Alain and Boz were in control of writing the music instead of Mark E. Nevin. It comes off as a very gay pop album, almost George Michaels-esque, which is diametric to what Moz is. if Alain and Boz had written the music it would have been an incredible Rockabilly album.
His best backing band. That is never in question. If you disagree, you’re wrong.
I agree hermano. The best backing band ever.
Hell yeah!
Best bass player ever garey day
Word, but there's always Jhonny marr...idk
The Smiths wasn´t a backing band, that´s the difference. We love Johnny Marr♥ and this formation too.@@jlyt8383

Totally AGREE!!!!
Hear, hear!

Those concerts where great for sure!
Morrissey is one of few artists that can fit in any decade/era of rock n roll, his music is everlasting!
He is great.
The least favorite human I agree
What a flawless live performance! No lip synching here people, just unadulterated crooning perfection.
i wish Morrissey stayed young forever....
Luckily there is TH-cam. Young Morrissey is always there.
The end when whyte sings always makes me smile when I see this for some reason. I think it’s how he sings it and the wittiness of the line.
I was in the audience that night! My friend and I begged the people going in for the show to please give us tickets! Oh the memories....
Lucky you!
Wow, cool.
By far the best recorded version of this song. Its baffling how much Alain Whyte looks like Gene Vincent! My god!
A small masterpiece. The guy playing electric guitar = Boz Boorer.
So true, my dads friends with him and hes such a nice and talented guy :)
@@dinonuggies5551 brilliant guitarist

I sent this to Boz and he was thrilled to see it again!
He’s such a kind dude, had the pleasure of actually hanging with him several times. Gem of a man.
So good, I love this freaking song!!!!!!
"Homeless chihuahua",where does he come up with this stuff?
lol
Quite silly
@@mrRnDe lol
It's an acronym
Mr. Research and Development... old name, I used to work in a laboratory
Great performance... Gary Day is a great Bass man
I'm 13 years old and I love this music, today's music doesn't compare to this .🫶
i miss morrisseys rockabilly sound.
me too... what a great era
me too...
Absolutely!
He can change his way of singing to which ever genre he is amazing at every one
Morrissey; before you there was no one else you are a living legend.... Sing Your Life
Love the snaps and pops in this vintage tv recording. Sounds so much like fine vintage vinyl. 👍🏼👌🏽
Thats the bass
Oh, this song is too silly. It's things like this that baffle me when people accuse Moz of being humorless or overtly miserable.
underrated song! fantastic

This was uploaded on my Birthday 12 years ago... thank you
Lovely jubbly! This reminds me of the old Smiths performances where Morrissey had that natural class about him! Oh lord help us all!
morrissey at his best excellent video thanks for posting
Just one example of why KILL UNCLE is so wrongly under rated
Great album.Who knew?
actually not so sure that's true anymore. I think he reevaluated. Especially with the reissue from a couple of years ago.
Good to hear!
Yeah. I love Our Frank, Found,Found, Found, There is a place in Hell..and most of the other songs like Asian Rut are now classics. Maybe it was the music press who had their swords out for him.
agreed
This is a great performance, the band is great. A very under appreciated record.
We're so lucky to live in the same time as him. I'm from his town not to brag hahaha
one of my fav songs and best line up of moz ever boz alain spencer gary
He should bring this song into the setlist
Gracias por sugerirme esta canción, mi querida Beatriz. Siempre me acuerdo de ti cuando la escucho.
The way it should be played! with a stand up bass. miss Gary Day.
Gary Day and that Bass!!!! WoW!!
Great live version of a favorite moz song
I agree with the amitious outsider. A gobsmackingly fantastic live TV performance.
I absolutely love this version.
Love that rockabilly sound!...
:D
This is THE Moz line up.
Just before he cancelled the Australian shows i was 17 & super pissed off !! I had to wait until 2002 to see him live for the first time in Sydney.
Or could it be? The gift of the graaaaaaabbbb
I love King Leer better live
Moz'a'billy!

stanbutler90 Very, very true...Mr Whyte stand to the back please
don't really agree. He wrote the song after all. And I like that the band appears t be having a great time in the background.
Neil McDougall Changed my opinion after a few views...Gene Vincent anybody?
stanbutler90 I don't think he "Marred" it. I'd say he Whyted it.
alain was good in those days.. he adds to the band's visual appeal in this instance i think. of course though, nobody holds a candle to moz...
he gives me goosebumps everytime ;-)
His voice though!!!
mother fuckin morrissey rockabilly! if you enjoy this you should totally hear sing your life rocka version as well! personally i think the slap bass makes everything that much more awesome
Best band Morrissey had !
Goddamn I love this song. Also, dat bass solo tho
"with a homeless chihuahua / you cooed for an hour" still makes me laugh after all these years
His best band since The Smiths.
What's your cock size Mark?
I really love this song and this version. Thanks upload!
I still feel this is highly under estimated
Boz Boorer looks like the T1000 from Terminator Judgment Day
anything Moz and rockabilly-ish is awesome!!!
10 September 1991 - Steve Vizard Show (Australia). Performed live for this show from Melbourne, Australia.
this song was played live in australia come on they have so many gifts already.
Love this good music 🤸
Can somebody remaster this piece of art?
I tried to remake it using Elvis AI, it came out OK, will try again when AI improves. This feels like an Elvis song to me, don't know why.
Wow amazing performance
Sheer brilliance!
Bring the band back together MOZ.....
Love this song ❤
Forever MO!!!
Frickin awesome.
It's backwards for me,Sing your life is my favorite but recently discovered this song about a month ago when I picked up Kill Uncle, great advice though!
@deadelvis333 i am a huge morrissey /smiths fan and i havent seen any performance of this song any better

That dude who took Morrissey's high part is Joey from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
Fucking enjoyed this so much👏🏼💖
lo amo
VIVA Morrissey...
The mans a God
boz boorer by far morrisseys best guitarist
I prefer rockabilly Morrissey to the Smiths, there I said it, now sue me !
Slap that Bass Gary day
This is very highlife.
Joseph gorden Levitt on drums!
so cool
That"s my MOZ
Kill Uncle has some great songs, Morrissey just didn’t have the right band in the studio for the recording....
Is it possible to download an mp3 version of this song? If so, where? Can't find it on itunes or anywhere...
Cool .
🖤
lol @ the guitarist 0:50
0:50 and 2:24. In my view, Morrissey cant sings high notes.
Tiago Rodrigues Interesting drug and last of the famous international playboys Mozza never sings the highs either. Shame
Marc Skeldon Shame is the name kkkkkkk.
+Tiago Rodrigues If you listen to It's Not Your Birthday Anymore or You've Got Everything Now. Lots of highs throughout his career.
Mozzer in happier halcyon days!!!!
❤
@blackmore4 hey, can you explain more what you mean by this post?
Ggenial
Gaz on the D-bass, kif or what.
you'll never guess

So. F#cking. Dope. It's like the 1950s went totally gay.
@Penningtor Gift of the gab, as in 'he talks too much'.
The guitarist missed his vocal cue
well spotted, Alain missed the first one...I wonder if Moz had some salty words for him after!
Kill Uncle - in my opinion poorly produced. This is what this particular track COULD have sounded like on the album - far, far, far better! Imagine what the rest of 'em could've sounded like.
Joe Jones what was wrong with the production

I still like Kill Uncle the way it is.
