@@hailtothe_rooster1572 uh, "The Terminator" would like a serious word with all 3 of you!!!! yeah, the SPAS-12 was first seen in the first movie
@@DrQuagmire1oh I’m aware that it’s appearance in Terminator predates its appearance in JP but the first film I saw it in (and continued to see it with re-watching) was Jurassic Park.
Hell ya
I owned one back in the early 90s. Qualified with it and carried it as my duty shotgun. Also, when he shows the rear sight at 11:01, theres a notch at the bottom of the ring. If you place the front blade in that notch when sighting it gives you a 100 meter zero for slugs.
If Franchi decided to put the SPAS 12 back into production I think they would immediately sell every one they made. Price notwithstanding.
Even just a look alike
@@MajinMist603
If the lookalike gets the rights to be manufactured on American soil, and sold in states where you can legally own a SPAS-12, the gun will sell like hotcakes!
PSA needs to start making these
Yea then we just gotta wait till gen5 lol
😂😂😂 we’re still waiting on the Dragunov they promised they were building and I think that was 4 or 5 years ago now.
@@craesh1001 id wait another 4-5 years after its released to get one lol. I dont trust the qc on a new model from them at all.
I wonder what other cool guns have their patent expiring soon?
@@FirstLast-ff7qx you are not wrong lol
Had mine for over 30 years. I love it. It's always a site to see when at the range.
Same but only for 10 years. I wish I had the metal stock on mine, but of well.😅 Can't wait to see the price on gunbroker jump because of the upload.😁
@@bakaetoBig difference in the looks between the folding stock and butt stock, but still a hell of a shotgun.
nice
You ever wanna sell that stock, I'll buy it from ya! 😂Jk jk But in all seriousness, you have a good one bud, and stay safe out there.
@@bakaeto It's all original. Thanks. Stay safe.
These old Franchi guns have a solid rubber buffer in the receiver.
After 30 years, it basically falls apart.
Whenever a Law-12 or SPAS-12 comes into our Armory, we tear them down and replace these buffers.
We have videos posted on YT and our website in how to do this for both guns.
Thank God those are still being made. I not only replaced mine but also got a bunch of replacements that I stored in an ammo can. Hopefully in an ammo can away from the sunlight, they'll last a while and I can replace these parts as needed.
@@gameragodzilla Yeah. A couple of different companies make these. Don’t seem to be that hard to manufacture.
@@John1911 Yeah, which is really nice. Replacement parts are always the bane of any gun that’s out of production. Seems like the popularity of the SPAS-12 allows some small shops to keep supporting it, letting me still shoot it all these years later.
Shotguns also tend to last a long time, so that should be a lifetime’s worth of enjoyment.
The first time I saw or heard of the SPAS was from a SWAT magazine review in the 80's.
They declared it to be a boat anchor. It would probably have died if not for movies.
Absolutely agree with you. This shotgun is heavy, sluggish. Simply too big to be quick. If I am SWAT ,me too, will dump this shotgun and go for a Benelli M4. This shotgun is only cool for movie. Impractical for real life.
When I was a kid watching JP when it first came out, It was so much fun watching Muldoon slowly unfolding the stock. I'm an adult now and it still is so cool. The most iconic movie shotgun, nothing comes close. Someone will reply "what about the.." nope, nothing comes close.
If I'm not mistaken, they removed the "hook" from the stock on Muldoon's gun
If you are using this for home defense, I think it makes more sense to press the intercom button and have your private security guard your door.
I use my SPAS for home defense. It’s expensive now but it wasn’t always so pricy.
My cousin had one. Blew a hole in his apartment outside wall! OOOOOPS! Love it when the guy whips one out in the movie "Snatch." "That looks like an anti-aircraft gun Vincent!!!"
You could just video it sitting on the table for a 30 minutes without a word and it would still be awesome.
I love that gun from the comic book Scout as used by Monday the Eliminator. Great video
Fired one once, back in the 1990s. Ridiculously front heavy compared to my Remington 870P and the folding stock was designed by a dentist as a cheek weld which doesn’t rattle your filing isn’t possible.
Damn I miss my SPAS.

A lot of people cite Jurassic Park, but I remember the SPAS-12 from games like Half-Life 1+2 and F.E.A.R.

The SPAS-12 is also my go-to shotgun in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

Love it! Always reminds me of Kevin Costner in 3000 Miles to Graceland shooting that in the Casino with flames coming out of it.
I’m so glad you used the hook properly. I love my SPAS-12. I think I just crossed about 4k on mine maybe a little more.
I’ve always enjoyed working on these guns. I’ve even had the opportunity to fabricate new parts for a few. Namely that sling drum.

Had a chance to get 1 a few years ago, and I highly regret not getting it.
Such an iconic arm.
Just showed Jurassic Park to my daughter for the first time. She absolutely loved it.
not gonna lie, if there was one dream shotgun that I wish I could own (other than the Benelli M4), is the Franchi SPAS-12!!!
“Clever girl”
🇺🇸
I was going to post this too. 💯
I got one for $900 probably 6 or 7 years ago at a gun show of all places. Very lightly used with sling and hook for the folding stock. A very cool gun, but completely impractical. Either way...if you can locate one you will not be disappointed if you're into cool guns! But yeah...there's a reason they didn't take off for agencies. Hard to load, bulky...but name a cooler, more iconic firearm. It's gotta be top 5!
I bought one of these about 15 years ago at an auction and it came from a Franklin County Sheriff who obtained it from a Franklin County SWAT officer in Columbus Ohio this is a badass gun and it is not modified at all and these things can also shoot bean bag crowd control as well that's what I was told they can also be automatic or semi-automatic by just pushing a button
Very neat, any Police Department markings?
Such an OG blaster!!!
Wow. Not seen one of these in years. My buddy had one back in the early 90s and I had the Benelli M3. Loved his SPAS, though preferred my Benelli as did he for shooting as it was lighter and softer to shoot. That being said, I'd still love to have this... 🤙
I would love to see a side by side comparison of the SPAS-12 and a Benelli M3.
Had both. The Spas 12 brought stupid crazy money so it left my collection. Do I miss it? Yes but my M3 Benelli is still kicking and weighs a lot less plus I bought a fully dressed M2 and 1014 Benelli with the cash I sold it for and never looked back. The 12 was so heavy it kicked like a baby in auto, in pump mode, like the man here says, you got all the recoil, in your jaw! Now mine would run birdshot as long as it was 1250 fps or more. I will say this, until I bought mine in the 80’s, yeah it being a movie star made me buy it, but it Is what took my down the path of semi auto riot shotguns and tactical shotguns. Now I just want all the different riot and tactical shotguns ever made. 😂
Mike nice to see you so excited about a gun.
I know this gun! It's the one with the shoulder thing that goes up!
This gun brings back memories. 🥲
The semi automatic mode was made for the heavy loads like buckshot and slugs only so try not to shoot birdshot in semi automatic it could jam on you, and for the heavy shooters it does not take 3 inch shells only 2¾ inch shells
Used to own one many years ago. When fired on the "semi" mode it had to be the softest shooting 12 gauge ever. All that weight soaked up a lot of recoil.
"12 gauge auto loader" -The Terminator
Whether for its appearance in movies or its real-world tactical applications, the SPAS-12 definitely earns its legendary status.
I prefer the term “12 gauge auto loada”
Please do a revolver cleaning video. I am surprised you don’t have a single revolver cleaning video. UR my go to cleaning youtuber.
Absolutely an iconic shottie. I'd love to have one at some point. Thanks Mike 🇺🇸
Fantastic, beautiful shotgun. Thanks
Ive wanted one since seeing the original Jurassic Park in theaters as a kid.
My bucket list shotgun thanks for the review
I hope PSA makes a version of this some day
they just got into shotguns
PSA 12 sounds good
Quick Tip: if you have one of these, replace the buffer with a new one made of modern materials. The old ones were made of nylon that just became super brittle over time.
I always loved this shotgun.
I own a SPAS-12 and actually use it as my home defense shotgun. It's a great gun.
EDIT: Also, the original purpose for firing one handed with the shotgun was actually so cops or special forces could lean out of a vehicle window and shoot at a threat they're pursuing one handed. Still a wild concept and of questionable practicality, but that was the reason behind wanting the ability to shoot this behemoth one handed.
The other reason parts are hard to get is the movie Alien, there were hobbiest that were recreating the M41A pulse rifle which heavily borrows from the SPAS, they brought up a lot of the parts to make their props.
The hook works quite well if you are repelling down a building and needing to fire through windows.

I have the updated model the Benelli M3 Tactical with pistol grip stock myself. IMO it's revamped and fixed everything wrong with the Spas-12.

Hither comes the AA-12.
A much better gun from that era, the Benelli M1 Super 90! I've had mine since 1990! 😎
Love colt, he’s a good dog.
Lusted after one of these while I was in the service back in the mid 80's. Wish I'd bought one then. 😉
During your introduction I thought it was 2 different guns. Pretty cool Mike!
Listed after this shotgun as a kid! It’s also the gun sheriff Meeker used to kill Michael Myers at the end of Halloween 4.
Its so funny seein a spent shell just flop out on pump. Im used to my benelli nova that spins em out like 10 feet lol
I had one of these amazing weapons,when I was a Deputy Sheriff. 35 years ago...wish I had kept it,,,😢
I used to have one. Wished I still did.
You can go pump or auto. Phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range
One is my buddies had one in college. I had never seen anything like it, especially in the late 80's. I remember thinking it was super heavy. Doggone it was cool though!
I have always wanted a spas
A few points here. These were only imported from around 1982 through 1994. The shotgun did come out in 1979, but didn't hit the US until later. Depending on who you ask there are as few as 1,850 of these that were imported into the U.S. The example in this video is an early one similar to the one I own. One thing that wasn't mentioned that probably should be is that while these will unfortunately chamber a 3" shell, they are not designed to fire them. This creates an over pressure situation and you will eventually destroy the receiver.
It's also important to note that you should not use the flip style safety on these guns. They can actually cause the gun to fire when taken off safe, or when placed on safe. Even if your gun works right today, it will fail eventually. I actually tracked down the crossbolt style fire control unit for mine, but kept the original in case I ever decided to sell it, which is something I probably won't ever do.
Also, I'm surprised to hear people mentioning harsh recoil in the comments and in the video. I've had mine since 2008 and I've got plenty of trigger time on it. I also have the folding stock as well. I can see why people would look at the stock and think it would feel harsh in recoil, but it doesn't. Its pretty soft shooting for a 12GA using 2 2/4 00 buck, slugs, etc.
I think a lot a of the reliability issues tend to be flat out are usually due to age and round count. My experience a lot of people don't clean or maintain their firearms, even people with expensive "rare collector" firearms don't clean lube or maintain them.
I still remember the first time I got to shoot the SPAS 12 back in 1990. For me the Juice wasn't worth the Squeeze. I bought 4 Franchi 48AL's in 12ga instead for less than the price of 1 SPAS 12.
i wish we could get a spas - 12 clone ..... one can wish i reckon
Oh, Colt, homie... Rubs for you.
I owned and played with one of these in the early '80s. Don't remember why I got rid of it, wish I didn't. Living in California, I'm sure I couldn't get one again.
The cutest shotgun.

"It's tight on this one." Likely because that rubber "buffer" or whatever you want to call it has been replaced. On these Spas-12s, almost everything rubber needs to be replaced, from the internal buffer to the little rubber piece on the front strap of the PG to the little rubber buffer on the uh.. stock? Even the little lanyard loop up top is often broken. They got stiff and brittle over the years and broke, so people recently replaced them. I had a spas 12 that had a very loose stock? piece. When I replaced that buffer, it became very tight like yours.
The SPAS-12 is the coolest gun I never wanted.
On my list for grail gun 😊
I actually got one of those in pretty good condition 👍
I'll keep my Mossberg 500 with the Eotech light that came on it. Until I can get my hands on the Thunder Ranch 940
I remember first noticing this shotgun at the end of Halloween IV when the sheriff lit up Michael Myers with one
I believe the lever style safeties were recalled and replaced with a cross bolt safety.

First time I ever seen this was the Matrix. Love at first sight.
I went to the rifle range Wednesday afternoon. I’m off from the police dept in the summer and the only people there were myself and two instructors. One instructor is retired ICE, the other is a sheet metal union delicate he actually knew my father who was a member. My father is a generation older than he is. He was telling us that a week earlier a woman brought in a. SPAS. Her husband ga s it to her for home defense. Past two years we needed a license for a semi auto rifle or we had to update our handgun license to buy semi auto rifle. I said if he has his rifle license or update he shoulda got her like a Ruger PC or mossberg 20 gauge. She literally dragged the case into the range because she couldn’t lift it. I said my philosophy if you can’t use your home defense weapon the guy will show you how to use it
@5:25 I beg to differ: if you are on a vehicle like a demonstration you are holding yearself with one arm, you have a free arm shooting stable without any turrets or stand

Man that episode hits differently when you revisit it and realize it wasn’t all that far off on its prediction for the early 2020s, just need to make some small adjustments because obviously we didn’t start corralling our homeless up but the general problem that US was facing is just too close to not notice
