About the straight line, I remember I was "racing" with another car at 9 p.m on 2 lane highway. Some gamers think the roads in real life are flat as in video games. In reality, it isn't. At that time, I was constantly adjust my car's steering during speed of 80 MPH (my car is just a small grocery gutter) to keep the front wheels straight.
@@iexist.imnotjoking5700 Nope, that's a physics. Even on roads with new tarmac, it still need slight adjustment. Roads are not completely flat, so we need suspension. Some games have that physics when driving fast (particulary above 300 km/h) while others are fine.

On that last point, video games often have traction control on, which cuts power to the tires when they lose grip, making for smoother acceleration where you can just hold the gas down and the game will do it for you. But a lot of drag racing leagues don't allow those systems, so a touch to much power or throttle can cause wheelspin, which means a lack of grip, which can cause an easy spin out. So drag racing often requires lots of careful throttle control and application, same with race cars and accelerating off the corner.
The last one was the most interesting, i learnt something! I knew that you needed to slowly push the pedals on a car on acceleration or else spining out, but didnt know why. Thanks mate!
I'd argue Forza is actually overdoing it. They act like cars have no grip on the rear wheels whatsoever. Probably to be more inviting to the drifting fans. But I just think it's extremely annoying. *Gently presses throttle →small mazda proceeds to slip away, massive amounts of tire smoke.*
thanks bruv, i had a lot of doubts, about the nitrous part i was dumb to think that the nitrous over worked the engine to much and it heated and thus caused the engine to back fire thanks for clearing my doubt bladed
Just bought an E220 Mercedes, and I floored it down the highway in a straight line. I felt I lost some traction and I was about to lose control. I thought something was wrong with the car, but now I know what happened. The car is rear-wheel drive and also pretty heavy so that's why I almost lost control.
I will say: i play forza(horizon 4 and motorsport 7) with no tcs(traction control ...) and this makes me put AWD on all cars i have cuz i usually like to always go full throttle, and yes amazing video, only thing i didnt know was how a nitrous works in rl.
3:42 A sequential turbocharger system has a smaller trubo to provide power until the bigger turbo spools up, they act separate. What your describing is a compound turbo setup which is less common where the small turbo provides early power and assists the bigger turbo to spool faster.
6:02 some of these explanation is incorrect. you CAN SHOOT FLAMES WITHOUT TURBO, provided you have: 1. an engine running leaner or much rich, preferably much rich 2. catalytic delete or an aftermarket full-system exhaust 3. iridium sparkplug 4. aftermarket coils provided, though, none about backfiring is good IF your engine is running too lean. piston can crack this way and break seals. a "safer backfiring" is called muffler-blast which happens not inside the chamber but inside the header and through the muffler
Great video, although the part about exploding cars and no turbo lag is a bit off. GTA is pretty much the only video game where that happens, not counting other GTA-like games. I'm surprised you didn't mention how tuning and putting upgrade parts on your car doesn't magically make it better. More often than not, it just makes it less reliable and only slightly faster. All those 1500 Forza Horizon builds would run for maybe 1 mile before blowing up or bending the frame
i went looking for an audi s3 and this guy working in audi explained to me that a car was twin turbo, so he said: ¨ it has a turbo in the front wheels and another in the back wheels so it moves with all fours".
KERS is not nitrous, but I understand that you meant that it works similarly. I think that if KERS was used in games in the stead of nitrous boost, it would seem more realistic and have minimal impact on gameplay.
Driving in a straight line does require skill. I've driven 180 kmh on multiple occasions and it's just scaring to see how fast stuff goes by. That viaduct you just went under that's already 150 meters behind you. That tree you just saw. Yeah that's also 150 meters behind you. Driving in a straight line at high speeds does require skill and a lot of it. I think it requires more skill then in a corner. In a corner you can feel more easily when the car starts losing grip. In a straight line not so much. The tiniest dent or slightest wind breeze can turn you around and let you crash.
Please read up on 2-step/antilag/backfires, the video explaination leaves alot to be desired. X-Step (x being a number, usually 2) is a system you can set up to have the engine held at a certain RPM for launching, think of it as different steps of a redline ladder. You Can add anti-lag to this by using ignition delay/Cut to control the step, causing fuel to combust in the exhaust spooling the turbo. Antilag is when you allow unburnt fuel to pass into the exhaust after lifting off throttle (going into braking zones or between shifts) which then spools the turbo. You Can do this by either delaying ignition, or cutting it entirely and relying on exhaust tempreture to ignite it. Backfire is just unburnt fuel going into the exhaust when getting off throttle, not intended for antilag. These are not interchangable, and there aren’t specifically different systems for superchargers/turbos.
I'm very thankful to Assetto Corsa for teaching younger me that smashing the throttle while going straight can kick the rear out, sadly younger people buying sports cars prefer more arcady games like Need for Speed instead of actual simulators.
With the last one, I do know that. I'm going to start driving soon but, I've played a simulator where you can feel everything. You can feel down gear, up a gear, acceleration, deacceleration, feel the bumps, and more. And decided to play with an F1 car. If you hit the gas too damn hard, you just lose grip and drive right into a wall. It's harder than you'd think from the perspective of playing a video game. I also drove a GR3 class racing car in the game and if you hit one bump and don't steer it correctly you just go right into a wall. I know that this is just a video game but even then it can be quite difficult. A straight line, if you don't have enough grip, you're not that experience, etc, can be quite challenging.
I have only ever kicked the tail out once, and it was in my dad’s 1996 Jeep Cherokee on a dirt road. It was about a year-and-a-half ago, when my dad was teaching me how to drive. As we were making our way back to the house (and keep in mind, we were talking about my wondering what wheelspin was like in RWD cars), he told me to slow it down to nearly a standstill. Then, he said to floor it. It put it to the floor and spun both rear tires (a miracle considering the XJ Cherokee as far as I’m aware had open differentials). That was the most awesome and scary thing I’ve done in a car to date, and it has given me an appreciation for RWD cars in general.
this, plus that's a freaking dragsters which weights maybe a 400kg *searches internet* - they're roughly 1 ton.. but I've also found out that there're dragsters which have 11000 hp (????) and that's 110hp per kilo ratio which is so insane that I can't even explain it... and flooring "normal cars".. a lot more is depending on the tires than actual power
In the crew 2 I find it fun to turn the traction control off and making the real tires more slick in my hellcat. It just makes it harder to drive but it makes it more fun and more realistic.
2-step isn't just for supercharged cars. It can be used with any NA or forced induction setup, and it's just a secondary rev limiter set lower than your main one used to launch the car. Turbocharged cars, for example, can use it to build boost. It's also helpful to launch the car without its full power to help it grip up.
#4 also seems to come from initial D. "KUSO! My tires are wearing out after driving on a mountain road for a few corners. Welp, guess I'll lose." Bonus points if you are driving a GTR.
tbh that's it and it's not true at the same time.. some cars have some super weird tire dimensions which got "insane" grip but they also wear down super fast... now that doesn't mean that they will wear down after 10min of intense driving but you can wear them down in few months of daily driving it a bit harder in comparison to normal driving and normal drivers where tires can last for years...
Misconception 5: driving in a straight line is allot harder in real life than a video game. Me with a hella ton of stick drift on my left stick: was that like, a personal attack or something?
1:03 well idk what you are talking about its so much easier to just wiggle for 2 sec than die and respawn somewhere else or in a race half a mile behind
the cool thing is that beamng drive actually tried to make the game as realistic as possible, for example if you mash the throttle all of a sudden, you're going to spin out and when they flip, the just stay instead of exploding or something.
7:45 The tire wear rates is not a quirk or system limitation, it's game design, the tires will wear after a few laps because it was programmed to wear that fast because the races were short. If the tire wear was at a realistic rate, you wouldn't feel it in the race and the tire wear would be obsolete.
I didn't even know what nitrous is. In Beamng, you could add this KERS like system (which is the system that has a electric motor recovering wasted energy under braking and turned into electrical energy via a generator) but my engine kept getting destroyed after pushing it for around 20 seconds. I'd like to see how this NOS works
As someone in the drag racing community, when built properly and a good enough surface when you grab your 1st or 2nd kit (N20), the car will shoot a constant blue flame until the driver let's off. I of course understand that there is alot more fuel added thus into the exhaust chamber but just saying there are times where vehicles can shoot flames other than 2 step, etc, etc.
The best at what? They are definetely the best at simulating since that's their aim and surely they have more educational value, but if you want to have simple fun then arcade games are the way to go. I play a lot of simulators but I every time a new Horizon game is released I spend hours playing it with my non-simracing friends and I have a blast doing it.
To add to the video, i think some of the misconceptions about driving straight taking no skill are also due to the fact that technology is advancing so quickly (particularly when talking about electronic assists) in such a way that in modern cars, a large burden is taken off of the drivers.
>be me at 23 >in honda crx >riced af with mods including nitrous >faster than bladed's Corvette on dyno >challenge local douche in doge challenger to drag race >he accepts >light turns green and I get the jump >he pulls on ahead >no worries this was my plan >press the shiny red nitrous button >white flash of light in my windshield >wtf.jpeg >the engine has exploded and my honda is in flames >I leap from my car and noticed something >challenger has rolled because local douche had lost control >win lol
1:10 no its gonna spawn you back on your feet and you will have to pay for your car, and call the mechanic so he drops it off. Much easier to take 5 seconds to get back on your wheels than to do that.
Two thing you mentioned... One: it's not just high horsepower cars that shoot flames... I had a 1981 Chevy C10 Custom pickup that was a straight six, three in the tree... Lost the exhaust underneath and was running straight pipes... It shot flames out the pipes... Two: another reason drag racing cars are hard to drive in a straight line is a thing called the "groove"... It's a strip of thick rubber along the centre of the lanes... If a car dips a tyre off the groove, the car will pull very hard in that direction, and often times, a driver will over compensate, and crash... Also, in the hight power cars like top fuel or nitro funny car, if the car puts out a cylinder on one side of the engine, the car will torque hard to one side... There is also a thing called "tyre shake" (too much grip, not enough power to the wheels)... Tyre shake could cause a car to pull to the side as well... Hope this info helped y'all a bit...
I cannot remember how many times i felt confident winning in racing games thinking it got easier because i “mastered” it. Then I thought “hey lets turn traction control off!”, bang back to being a beginner again. Throttle control is so important but i guess since the game can do it for you anyway, people i guess tend to overlook that.
Old-isch games made younger me think that every car can drift every corner when you are not careful. I thought my parents (and everyone else) practiced a lot to not do that. At my first day in driving school I was horrified believing I would drift off the parking lot and immediately crash.
other detail worth mentioning about driving in a straight line is that it can also be easy to spin a very powerful front wheel drive when flooring it in a straight line due to torque steering and other factors. And another important misconception is suspension.. Even modern simulators let you jump a sports car into the air and, in the worst case, just lose a little control upon landing, while irl the best pickup trucks can be seen breaking axles by jumping as 'little' as a meter off the ground

Because governments can't be bothered to build roads properly.

This is actually how I got introduced to the channel 😂
Oh....

Forza is actually pretty decent when it comes to fishtailing, I tried to do a corvette drag build with the 70s one, and it constantly fishtailed.
I'd argue Forza is actually overdoing it. They act like cars have no grip on the rear wheels whatsoever. Probably to be more inviting to the drifting fans. But I just think it's extremely annoying. *Gently presses throttle

3:42 A sequential turbocharger system has a smaller trubo to provide power until the bigger turbo spools up, they act separate. What your describing is a compound turbo setup which is less common where the small turbo provides early power and assists the bigger turbo to spool faster.
You might have already covered it, but it annoys me in video games when AWD/4WD is flat out the best drive train, with no downsides.
NFS wants to know your location

@Marcus Aimon Fomixaders I mean, a 12.5 1/4 in a loaded sedan is decent imo
6:02 some of these explanation is incorrect. you CAN SHOOT FLAMES WITHOUT TURBO, provided you have:
1. an engine running leaner or much rich, preferably much rich
2. catalytic delete or an aftermarket full-system exhaust
3. iridium sparkplug
4. aftermarket coils
provided, though, none about backfiring is good IF your engine is running too lean. piston can crack this way and break seals. a "safer backfiring" is called muffler-blast which happens not inside the chamber but inside the header and through the muffler
Also the fact that you can’t just add a turbo without changing the timing of the shift and bunch of others shinanigans on the car’s computer (ecu)
Gran Turismo did always forget about both turbo lag and spool time. At least GT3 and 4, I switched to Xbox after PS2
except from GTA 4 on wards and even in GTA 5 this no longer happens though

Nitrous exists irl and it's called KERS. Except it's much kinder to your engine
KERS is not nitrous, but I understand that you meant that it works similarly. I think that if KERS was used in games in the stead of nitrous boost, it would seem more realistic and have minimal impact on gameplay.
@@matj12 ik it's not nitrous, i meant it in terms of function.

10:38 no. that happens because their drivers don't know how to keep control of the car.

I've meet people who saying "yo nice car take it drift" to a fwd
10:00 right but those are two different things. Driving a 1500+hp car straight is not easy. Flooring it in your Camaro going straight is.
this, plus that's a freaking dragsters which weights maybe a 400kg *searches internet* - they're roughly 1 ton.. but I've also found out that there're dragsters which have 11000 hp (????) and that's 110hp per kilo ratio which is so insane that I can't even explain it... and flooring "normal cars".. a lot more is depending on the tires than actual power
In the crew 2 I find it fun to turn the traction control off and making the real tires more slick in my hellcat. It just makes it harder to drive but it makes it more fun and more realistic.
i always assumed people would not think cars are as tough as glass to instantly explode from flipping over
Me with a scramble button: Boost goes baaaaaaaaaa!!!
Our neighbor's kid liked to call the nitro a turbo
I was always taught too respect a cars power and treat it as such if you don’t do that then it will surely bite you in the end

Beamng is just the best for any of this except there’s no guns
Dh hyper bolide add on has a gun

The only thing is, no tyre wear, since player drove car for short time anyway
1:03
well idk what you are talking about
its so much easier to just wiggle for 2 sec than die and respawn somewhere else
or in a race half a mile behind
The amount of hours I've grinded The Crew 2. I remember staying up till 3 am to get a Bugatti Chiron 🤣
the cool thing is that beamng drive actually tried to make the game as realistic as possible, for example if you mash the throttle all of a sudden, you're going to spin out and when they flip, the just stay instead of exploding or something.
3:02 me when vtec
Me when its just 40mph in a vtec

My Friend: How U Get A Nitro?
Nice vid and also tip for this race on crew 2 at 11:34 u can shortcut that corner to the finish line and save a few seconds :)
4:32 what game? Nfs heat?
Yeah.
One more misconception: sim games are the best
thats just preference, not a misconception
That's not a misconception because it's just a personal preference, there is no right and wrong answer
3:59 also works for boost. Smaller cup can't hold as much as the larger cup
To add to the video, i think some of the misconceptions about driving straight taking no skill are also due to the fact that technology is advancing so quickly (particularly when talking about electronic assists) in such a way that in modern cars, a large burden is taken off of the drivers.

1:10 no its gonna spawn you back on your feet and you will have to pay for your car, and call the mechanic so he drops it off. Much easier to take 5 seconds to get back on your wheels than to do that.
i liked the video a lot and it actually taught me a few thigs. i didnt really know how cars shoot flames and this video taught me. thanks bladed
As for number five, my response to them would be “Play Project Cars 2 and come back to me.”
