  • 4 Spec Sheet Nerd Arguments I'm Tired of Hearing...MORE Stupid Things Car Guys Say. Fast Cars with big numbers are overrated, just ask motorcyclists who argue over 300cc vs. 600c starter bikes and you'll see this topic is something very divisive to this day. You should be willing to spend more on the ‘Enthusiast’ Trim, that’s what a True Enthusiast does, willing to spend more on their hobby, is a common Spec Sheet Nerd Argument I'm gonna debunk real quick. Also Skipping over Entry Level Sports Cars, having only driven Slow Grocery Getters or even worse, no car at all, is the dumbest thing any New Car Enthusiast could do. If you couldn't handle a 500HP Mustang GT, you certainly cannot handle a 797HP Hellcat Redeye.

      Reminds me of when i kept up with a 911 in the Twisties in my uncle's Felicia pickup with 1/5 the power tops and 0 regard for my safety. When it was kinda straight he'd pull away, but at every slow corner I'd be right back on him. The way back down wasn't as fun because i was stuck behind a guy who never went above my engine brake speed in second gear. I discovered the car had a 5th gear before that tho while going 140 km/h.

      @@GTAmaniac1 was it safe to be pushing the limits of your vehicle? The 911 driver was almost certainly safer than you. More grip available and sing less of it and more time available to react on the turns. It's not all about the straight or corner speed.

    • @GTAmaniac1
      @GTAmaniac1 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@johnhunter7244 @John Hunter the car i was driving had no functional seatbelts, ofc the 911 was being more safe, but i doubt he had more grip available due to my car being half the weight and still being on some sticky tires. Plus we had the same time available to react on the turns, i was never more than half a car width in the opposing lane without knowing with absolute certainty what's in the next 2 corners. Could i have been safer? Definitely, but that's not the point of spirited driving, the point is having fun while still being able to account for most unforseen situations, which i was doing. Plus i was under the speed limit most of the time because 60 hp ain't much.

      I’ve been to a driving course in summer and even they didn’t let us go at it it with the full-fat Focus RS right at the start, but we had to learn the course in a set of Fiestas. Normal ones, not even the ST variant.
      Now I am not saying to start off with a Peel P50, but something reasonably quick. Not a few hundred horsepower monster that will wrench your head off first chance it gets, but a responsive car more likely to train its driver.
      GT86 is the one I am personally dreaming about, but that is up to the individual.
      This also applies to any other kind of car. See if you like it stock, and improve it from there. Gradually increase power and driving characteristics.

While yes, it was fast, It outperformed me. I nearly slammed it straight into a tree. It doesn't matter if your car has 3000 horsepower, if you can't contain it, it's not the car for you.. What's even better yet is a vehicle with tons of aftermarket support, then you can restore it, make it new again, make it what you want it to be, and in the end have a respectable vehicle that you can say you built yourself and earn bragging rights too.

    • @suprtroopr1028
      @suprtroopr1028 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      And those are key points: experience, satisfaction, and an overall respect for your vehicle. Learning to enjoy, respect, and wrench on something affordable only makes you more competent and grateful when you have a car that has a bigger tag, IF you want one. But it's your call, and that's the real point. The point of being a car guy to me is that your car is YOUR car. You're passionate about what you drive and are willing to invest deeply into it, no matter what make, model, year, or trim. I miss to death my old Park Ave, and would've given anything to have the money, knowledge, and time to fix her back then. And having that thought was when I knew. Now, I'm getting into wrenching on my new store dasher, and it's never been more enjoyable for me to drive her, because it's my effort that's making her better.

    This is a great video. It is universally applicable. During the lockdown I stared getting into, of all things, sewing. I had a $70 entry entry level machine which worked fine for making masks. Then I tried making a denim equipment bag. It was like showing up to a tractor pull with an base model Kia Rio. The machine was trashed halfway through the project. I was THIS close to pulling the trigger on an $1800 machine from Japan. The things it could do! Wow! Then I thought to myself... after we are allowed out of our houses again, am I really going to continue this hobby? Ended up getting a $350 Singer Heavy Duty to get the job done. It is still more machine than I will ever need. The thing goes through denim as if it were tissue paper. Sure enough, since the lockdown ended I make about 3 or 4 bags a year and made one set of custom seat covers. I still need the machine, but I'm so glad I didn't trick myself into that $1800 import.

    My son-in-law asked me what I wanted a sports car for and it wasn't a rhetorical question. He asked "Do you want to brag to your friends about what you own and how much you spent? Do you just want to have the biggest power & torque figures and lowest 0 to 60 numbers available? They'll be outdated next year if so! Do you just want to look cool and feel envied by people you pass the street? Or do you REALLY just want to have insane amounts of fun and LYAO while driving?" The answer was obvious to me - I wanted the most fun I could have in a reliable and relatively inexpensive car. He suggested I buy a Mazda MX-5. I did and have ZERO regrets! Perhaps it's all about maturity - placing reality over image and ego?

      I guess this depends on where you are... The MX-5 is a MEH deal in the U.S at best. Unless you are making a track car, it's likely more of a niche purchase at the price. Other vehicles around the same price offer similar, if not more performance with more usability as a daily driver. Especially how much some used ones go for as well. Most of the people who buy MX5's have a thing for them. Not a very popular choice here.

    Really love your point about not only sticking within your budget but sticking within what you can handle and what you’ll actually need. As a photographer I’ll have a lot of friends who are trying to get into photography ask me about brand or camera they want and ask if it’s good and I always have to start out with asking what they want to do with the camera if they plan on editing the photos, or printing them, maybe doing photography as a side hustle and then I still have to ask them what their budget is and often times they only need a quarter of the camera. I’m constantly telling people they should only upgrade when their skills outmatch their tools otherwise they’ll get overwhelmed and drop it. It kills me that you see that everyone thinks they need the best that’s out there to start off well when they won’t see any return on investment over a beginners tool for like a year or more, and the fact that these venerable people are being prayed on by salesmen and companies makes me really sad and angry.

    I remember me and my dad had a talk about something similar to Future Proofing.
    Basically I told him which cars I'd like to own one day for fun drives. And when I said that I'm still picking which one I'll have, he said to me: "If you really want a car, then save money for it. But at the same time, buy something cheaper but good so you can still have some fun while you save for the car you really want. And once you know you'll have enough, you can sell the car you currently have and get the car you really want."
    He even told me that despite how much he likes his Super Seven, he's gonna sell it at some point for something else to have fun with.
    And I took this advice to heart because now that I think of it, it'll be better for me to get a cheap toy and have fun while I save for the actual toy I want, rather than save for the actual toy I want without having anything else to entertain me.

    I think a sports car is defined by having at least decent power or p/w ratio for its time. Even a base 986 Boxster with "only" 200 hp is still a sports car to me because it's already 25 years old and was surprisingly fast when it came out. But calling something with 100 hp a sports car if it doesn't have Lotus Elise weight, it's difficult to call it that.

    I bought a 2L 6MT, 155hp Mazda 3, and it handles like a boss, I can throw it around safely all while having a blast! I've learned to appreciate just driving over speed. I don't trust anyone on the road, and driving quickly is just gonna put me in a situation where I have to do an emergency maneuver, all because Sharon in her ford escape decided to lane change without looking. I live in a city and its very hard to find any time at all to drive spiritedly. I appreciate your mind set Bladed, even if its fueled by inner rage which i can relate to LOL.

    I am so much more interested about who's behind the wheel than whats under the hood.

    Since you brought up the computer and system topic on it, I want to tell: I got an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA401IV), with an AMD Ryzen 9 4000series CPU, Nvidia RTX 2060 Max-Q with 6GB Ram, 1TB SSD and a 120Hz screen. I have given it maintenance, and it was on sale, got it for $1,100 back in February 2021. There were more expensive, higher-end laptops, but this one was what I needed, and I have taken it to more than the specified limits, Man, I love these videos, because you speak about things with facts, and you also learn in the process too. You shine a light of knowledge and advice.

    I have a 1987 Yugo. It has a 0-60 of about, "maybe if you're lucky going downhill with wind pushing you". Either the pedals are too close or the steering wheel is too far away both at the same time no matter how you adjust the seat. It has no power anything, a carburetor, no computerized components, and can randomly implode at any moment with no warning. The rubber hoses are crumbling, and the window crank handles fall off. Everyone stares at it like they've seen a ghost, and the whole car smells weird both inside and out.
    I love it, and wouldn't want it any other way.
