    I think that "tele-operating" the Teslabot to do things might be one of the ways to train its AI much like how the FSD in the cars is trained. Let us be amazed by how much dexterity the Teslabot's hardware has to date.

    • @CyberDriveCentral
      @CyberDriveCentral 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@jaylewis9876 Indeed. I also think that these bots will set up the road to AGI due to them so closely mimicking how a human interacts with its environment. With sensors it can “feel” the world and possibly higher level intelligence is emergent from functioning within a complex and chaotic environment with many possible outcomes of action or even inaction. The next few years are going to be fascinating. 🤨

    I think people overlook that this is one robot learning to fold clothes. When it figures that out, then 1 billion robots know how to fold clothes. If Tesla has 10 robots learning 10 tasks, then they all know 10 tasks. They could have the first 100 never doing the same task, then learning 99 other tasks in the time it takes to download.
    This all depends on the hardware first. If the hardware is capable, then rapid advancement is possible.

  • @TomLoveman
    @TomLoveman 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    The ultimate test will be when the bot can fold a fitted sheet! It will take no time at all now for the AI to learn to recognize all the various pieces of clothing and then apply the proper folding method. Next will be deciding which pieces of clothing go on hangers. Sorting will also be easy since they've shown that already. Then there is how to sort stack and place the folded clothes in a basket. It gets trickier to get it to determine which clothes are which family member's so it can then deliver and put the clothes away in the proper dresser or closet. Nothing insurmountable though.

    re: FSD vs. Optimus --- Safety issue is certainly true. But as I see it the bigger operational difference is the uncontrolled / randomness of driving (other vehicles, pedestrians, animals, weather, road and lighting conditions, etc) vs. the much more limited and controlled environment of a factory. The bot is at a workstation doing a set of prescribed tasks. It has to deal with some unexpected situations outside its normal operating range but it can always respond by just safely stopping and signaling for attention. In the future a bot with more AGI can handle less controlled real world environments but the early usage in more limited, less demanding (compared to driving) environments has a huge TAM with a large ROI.

So in order for an artificial being to approximate a human, after the intelligence in the brain, the hand would be the second requirement, don't underestimate the opposable thumb, it has given primates a huge advantage over other species.

    I agree with you Dave. A lot of people are comparing the Optimus Bot to FSD which is complete non-sense. If FSD fails a person can die so it is incredibly challenging to avoid a fatal collision 100% of the time. A bot drops an egg on the floor? Likely won't hurt anyone... it might even know how to clean it right up better than most of us. Even if the bot works 90% of the time it is a huge win. As for widespread FSD though, imo we won't be comfortable until at least 9 sigma (0.999999999999999999887) chance of never getting into a life-threatening crash.

    Great video! Dave, what do you think of this: if one Optimus robot is capable of assembling two new ones every day, and those two are then able to assemble two each the following day, etc. it doesn’t take many days to get to a million bots. As long as the part bins keep up…

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is ignorant because it works around the issue. Assembling the robot may be a stupid one-hour job - the robot consists of 6 or so components (head, center, arms, legs), maybe 7 (hip and below). The real work is not the assembly - the real work is making the parts and - cough - you say "oh, as long as the part bins keep up".

    It may be incredible to see the rate of advancement in skill development this year. Since the bots operate with a common A.I. system, skills learned by each bot should enable the same functionality in all other bots. Essentially this seems to mean something like an exponential skills growth rate. If this occurs in actual practice the value and applicability of bots in the economy should advance rapidly!!

    With Teleoperation Tesla can allow remote physical work - get paid for that word AND use the data collected to TRAIN Optimus. Similar to Tesla having customer pay for FSD and collect data for it, they can do the same to collect the dataset for Optimus. This can generate tons of money early on, collect data, fund the robots, research and training and allow Tesla to find tasks that are easy to make autonomous as part of the process and then take the remote workers out of the loop and move them to other tasks.
    It will be a bit like UpWork but for physical tasks. Anything from home chores to cooks at McDonals, to factory workers. The sky is the limit (or maybe not when Optimus is sent to Mars 😂)!

    Build the hardware for Tesla factory use, just as FSD gets software upgrades the Bot will expand in its factory use. A prototype line is needed as hardware evaluation requires use, marginal cost per Bot is not high so build as many as can be used. Second step is to expand Bot use to suppliers. Third is to update the hardware based on experience, target various manufacture use cases. Then build for consumer.

    The technology is looking very promising in terms of doing relatively basic and repetitive tasks. The potential TAM is huge but dependent on the cost of buying or renting a BOT. Assuming it’s reliable, and can be produced in large numbers, and, If it manages to be cheaper or even slightly more costly than hiring a human, it’s going to be a massive winner

    • @ThomasTomiczek
      @ThomasTomiczek 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But remember the cost of a human is not just what you pay. Hiring, allocation of floor space (rest area, toilets), TRAINING - if you need another human, you start training again. A robot lives in a corner, does not need amenities, takes no time off. If it breaks it is easy to replace and scaling is trivial. Even at a slightly higher hourly rate this can be more efficient. And the target price is REALLY low.

    You know somewhere down the road he's gonna have it perfected. He'll change the name Optimus prime. You know it's gonna happen .

    I've been assuming that Tesla would keep the bots in-house to increase margins, but now I'm wondering if it'll be the opposite. If they sell to people, rather than to factories, they would get tens of thousands of people training their household robots to do various things - all the while, the fleet would be developing dexterity and skills. Maybe the "factory bot" comes second the same way FSD came before robotaxi?

    If you look closely at the shirt it moves before the robot touches it. Are there suction in the finger tips or something?

    I am thinking the #1 task for the bot should be building bots for exponential growth potential (assuming supply chains are in place)

    They couldn’t get Cyber truck out in time. They have zero chance of getting something this complex out. 2030 for a robot like this would be impressive

    Optimus could become the ultimate machine that builds the machine. By replicating itself, Optimus will be the first machine capable of replacing many other machines / people in a multitude of tasks / roles. IMO of course.

    in term of hardware you're right. Moves are veeery fluent/smooth. It is very rare to see in robotics even currently. Tesla is definetely ahead of other companies in this area. Optimus "feels human", and that.... "scares" me the most I think. We are talking about new achievements... but their output is out of our sight. The fact that someone is saying that it will be used for human good.... well.... gun could be also used to defense....

    This is the first time Optimus has done something that is as impressive as Boston Dynamics.

    So, the bot is tele-operated and fixed on a rope so that it doesn't fall over.
    Sounds awesome🙈

    While I agree with your view on the importance of perfecting the hands. I feel like Tesla should put 10s if not hundreds of them to work in the factory doing simpler tasks. This will help them to see many of other reliable and quality issues before them final model.

    Dave! Listen man. I’m sure you are aware that Rob is stopping Tesla Daily. You are going to HAVE to pick up the slack. I need an no nonsense report and you and Rob are both that. Please consider. Thanks 😊
